Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

14 Aug 2018 18:48:39
question for ed002, hypothetically if usmanov bought the remaining shares available, would he be able to use his wealth at all or are we completely reliant on income? i really am not up on these rules at all so was wondering does having a rich owner make any real difference if we aren't bringing a lot on money into the club.
would usmanov be able to give everton a loan or wpuld that breach ffp?
sorry I no u dnt like talking finance but just a quick, having him would be good or his wealth is irrelevant will do ed cheers in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You are just clutching at straws about wanting a sugar daddy owner - I an not going to get in to the finances as it is simply not worth it on the Everton page.}

14 Aug 2018 19:38:28
I don’t think his cash can do anything at the moment anyway, transfer window finished to January, stadium won’t be ready for few years so as a club income won’t be much more than what it is, it’s the bigger picture that needs to be looked at new stadium in iconic spot with a complete regeneration around it with huge growth once built, premier league money is only going in one direction up although I think the tv deal here will level out but overseas money tv deal is coming up next year I believe and that will continue to grow at a huge rate, because it is the best league in the world.
I actually think he has interests in us already.
I just don’t see Moshri being able to fund this project alone.
Spurs are not buying cause they have to pay for this stadium and running costs which will be higher, same as Arsenal had to go through.
So I would say the only way we are going to do this project is with Usmanov, just my gut feeling that it’s been the plan all the way unless Usmanov would of got full control at Arsenal.

I think too many people are getting carried away with this whole Usmanov thing. He invested in Arsenal as he felt football was on the verge of becoming a profitable venture. Yes he wanted more say in the club, but that doesn't mean he wanted to throw money at it.
Yes he has said he could potentially hypothetically buy into Everton - if he see's potential for investment profit - he will not be throwing money at us.

Steering clear of anything technical FFP

The thing about top end sports clubs (regardless of sport) is they attract very rich Man, who see them as something of a play thing or a passion. I'm not saying that these aren't ran correctly but they are certainly ran in a very unfamiliar way to any other business model.

Of course profits count, I'm not trying to say they don't but there is something else that marries an owner and a football club.

Sure this Uzbekki fella will want to be assured he can't lose money but he will want to win! He said countless times at Arsenal, he'd bank roll em to the top. (Leave me alone ed 02)

I think it was always a plan between the 2 of em. If he couldn't wrestle AFC away for himself, he would go somewhere else. FM has assured that another hot pie is ready to go.

And I don't care what rules, 2 billionaires are surely better than 1?

14 Aug 2018 23:55:10
We must be close to our FFP limit for the last couple of years and from what I gather it is based over 3 consecutive years.
Usmanov can't simply come in and throw an amount of cash in the pot, well, he can for other things in the club if he wishes, but transfers, wages, bonuses have to be balanced from incomings.
USM could sponsor us again like finch farm but we only have one finch farm.
If he wants to waste his money USM could sponsor the stadium or rename Goodison, USM Goodison park. Is he going to? No.
If he comes in and buys the rest of kenwrights shares, brilliant, but he won't be majority shareholder and Moshiri would still have control.
And he isn't, correction can't just spend his hard earned money buying us players, paying wages or bonuses.

Essentially we need more money from sponsors, ticket prices, selling players, tv money, success and merchandise to be able spend more.

The man city and Chelsea bank roll days are done.

Agree with you ed, everyone getting overjoyed with the usmanov rumours, doesn't really mean anything at this moment as sure we'll possible have funds but to compete with top six also needs a football side of it, we currently aren't in the position where if we matched money offered by others a big player would come to us, so slow it all down, if we came fourth one year and had usmanov then maybe you think about it, also with usmanov joining now most of his wealth input would be on the stadium and finances etc.

15 Aug 2018 14:48:59
I feel a couple of Ed’s bar Ed25 are getting twitchy bums with the thought of money being pumped into our club and the new stadium gaining momentum.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Another embarrassing post. The stadium is happening regardless. None of the Eds care about any money being "pumped" in to Everton - don't forget that when Moshiri arrived Everton fans were convinced he was putting in £200M in to each transfer window - it was never true, never going to happen. Now you all seem convinced that Usmanov is goining to be gifting Everton a stadium, and vast sums of money. It won't happen. He will look to buy back in to a club going forward - but he won't be buying Everton, perhaps he will look at Newcastle - but he has a far better option in mind already. You seem to live in a bizarre fantasy world.}

15 Aug 2018 15:53:42
Funny you should mention Newcastle Ed002 because I was thinking exactly the same, he can have full control there and other than the team which he can invest in, they have everything on place with regards to stadium etc and they are also a one team city.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 18:50:02
Any prospective buyer (Usmanov) could buy shares into Everton. Maybe even Moshiris shares and become the majority share holder, I think it was their long term plan overall. I think most understand that due to FFP now owner can just say there’s £300m next transfer window. They would see it as a long term investment. Not just a new football ground and attend games on a Saturday. It will be a mini village just outside the city centre. A stadium to hold many different events such as concerts, Hotels, casinos and a top tourist attraction for all who visit Liverpool. Tours from cruise vessels etc.

We WILL be successful on the pitch and be a global brand and once we take this step very much like Man City are now there isn’t much expenditure on players as there was in the early days. One or two signings a season. This is the vision and one that is achievable.

No question the Stadium is going ahead regardless, seems strange though just after selling his shares, Everton stated that they will not be needing to borrow a loan from the local council, unless I have missed something and Moshi is stumping up all the money.

Whether this has anything to do with a gift to get around the FFP with naming rights to the new stadium just like Finch farm, an investment from Usmanov whether coming in or not, rich owners will always find a way around the ffp.

In regards to transfer fees, another way around this is staggering the payments over 5 seasons instead of the full amount to the selling club.

Right or wrong, clubs with rich owners will always find a way around the ffp.

Whether Usmanov has any impact, whether buying into the club, or simply helping his friend Moshi, I think there is a possibility he will have some interest in Everton Football aclub.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Everton have found a way to cheat and get around FFP - stunning stuff.}

15 Aug 2018 22:30:47
I see where you’re coming from about blues getting carried away when Moshiri came in, believing he would bank roll us every transfer window, and now with this Usmanov proposal. But I will say this, after decades of false promises and 0 investestment are Everton fans not allowed to get excited carried away with themselves? We’re new to this whole “having money” thing. Additionally, it’s not all Everton fans who think like this so to tar us all with the same brush is a bit narrow minded.

In response to you pinning Newcastle as a club “moving forward” and perhaps being a more attractive investment, in what capacity are Everton not “moving forward”? New stadium, new headquarters in Liverpool’s business district and landmark, restructured our corporate and management team and bought in some highly respected individuals in their given fields, as well as an exciting young manager and a glut of promising players. All seems very investable to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I did not say Newcastle were “moving forward” or anything like that. Perhaps you can find a half wit to read what I wrote to you slowly.}

15 Aug 2018 22:45:57
“He will look to buy into a club that is going forward. perhaps he will buy Newcastle”. Am I missing something here? If Newcastle aren’t going forward then why buy into them like you said?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - As in “in the future”. You are probably wasting your time trying to interpret what I write - maybe we could do a pop up version of the Everton page for you.}

15 Aug 2018 23:43:51
I am with you bitter blue with the club going forward, perhaps he will buy Newcastle, so I am as miffed as you with your reply trying to interpret it other than how it reads in the response.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware that he has any interest in Newcastle at all, but it is available and won’t be sold at a knock down price. Everton is Moshiri’s. Maybe you should await the pop-up version of the web site - or maybe the long awaited finger puppy version. I could write in Polari, which I would expect most Everton supporters to be hip to, and you still wouldn’t get it.}

16 Aug 2018 00:35:47
So if Newcastle is not available at a knock down price, you then look into the £83Million Moshi paid for 49% of shares in Everton.

However you look at it, Usmanov received 505 Million for his shares, taking into account more coprerate and revenue at the Emirates, he could look to buy shares at Everton, even at a slightly more inflated price, he could buy 50% and still have well over 400 Million left from his money from the sale of his shares from Arsenal.

Even pumping the 200 Million towards Everton’s cost in part towards the new stadium would still leave him a nice 200 Million.

Now we know Moshi has just over 50% per cent of the shares a deal could be struck to give Usmanov and Moshi equal 50%

That’s why I think it is possible Usmanov will think long and hard with a view to investing in Everton Football Club.

He might have to hop in Smit666! He is a half decent player but looked so much better when with Barry who was the classier of the two. I am hoping Shneids looks better now he has Richarlison one side, Walcott the other and Gueye to support him. Added to which, Tom Davies should be able to step up this season and I reckon Kieran Dowell is almost ready for some games.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 20:15:45
I'd also add that he is a combative midfielder who has no end product. A screamer every 24 months and a thuggish hatchet job when out of possession, of which he is reliable to give the ball away more than most too. An "all round midfielder" is just that. Goals, assists, defensive duties, free kicks, pens, creativity. I'd say he doesn't even get a mark on some of those categories.
That liverpool game has really cast him in a false light. We all loved it because no one else on the pitch looked like they have a monkies.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 00:01:11
And Kante is one of the best defensive mids in the league and provides, no assist, no goals, no free kicks and no penalties.
What is an all round midfielder?
You can't have 2 box to box midfielders in a team.

McCarthy plays the Gana role as good, if not better when he's fit.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 10:47:50
An all round midfielder must be like Roy of the Rovers. He can do everything better than everyone else on the pitch.

McCarthy is very good at what he does and I agree with Smit he’s probably the best defensive midfielder we have.

The broken leg he suffered was because of his commitment and reading of the game to cover defenders. Not too many midfielders in world football would be able to recover and make that last ditch tackle.

Hey Ed with Usmanov coming out and saying he would now consider investing in Everton, can you explain in what form this would likely to be, i would really appreciate if you could explain how these investments in a football club work, many thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nominally he would be buying 50% of the shares.}

14 Aug 2018 16:24:47
I understand that but so given, wouldn't Mr Moshri and Mr Usmanov be equal partners and do you think both Parties (I have read that they are friends which is a help or hindrance depending on which way you look at it in business) , would be happy with that. Incidentally, I have read the Premierleague so-called FFP (in particular section E) , quite ambiguous (deliberately so I suspect) in my view and seriously open to interpretation by experienced Sports lawyers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - In what way is it ambitious? Do you think that Everton will look to exploit it and be OK if they get caught and say got a points deduction and a transfer ban. Certainly it is far from as prescriptive as the UEFA FFP, so they can put more in as long as Everton are not intereted in palying in Europe.}

14 Aug 2018 17:22:23
Ambiguous yes but of course I did not mean to insinuate that Everton would seek to exploit. Of course Everton are interested in playing in Europe and hopefully we shall see that relatively soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Well you can stop reading the Premier League provisions and read the releavant provisions then. Oh and don't forget the amount of money Everton are still paying for Allardyce, various members of his staff, Rooney and of course Ronald Koeman that comes out of the budget.}

14 Aug 2018 21:05:16
To be fair Ed I don't think we will have to worry about Allardyce, Rooney, Koeman's or any other historical payments by the time we get back in Europe!

With regards to the board usmanov coming in would be amazing our financial power would change over night!

But just something a little closer to home I have to say our new CEO has properly got her head screwed on,

although we have worked within restricted budgets over the pas 3+ decades and to a degree the board have had to make us stable in an ever changing markets we have made some strange decisions along the way our ex CEO being one of them, he wasn’t commercially aware and was unable to plan ahead this held us back massively I believe certainly over the last 10 years,

Step forward Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale, she has a plan and is implementing it, all the way through the club,

It all takes time but she along with Farhad laying some very good foundations.

There is an interview from her in the telegraph over the weekend a very good read that certainly show the mistakes of the last three years will not be repeated!

Just thought I would give the board a shout out as they do get a fair bit of stick somethimes

(don’t get me wrong there have been some very suspect goings on behind the scenes pre Farhad which we will never get to the bottom of but that’s in the past)

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Financial power to do what?}

14 Aug 2018 14:47:44
Build a stadium
Upgrade training facilities
Buy better players
Increase global sales

End of the day money talks and if you have it life becomes a little easier,

Man City basically became what they are by offering unbelievable wages and getting players to buy into what they’ve we’re trying to do as did Chelsea,

Tottenham are spending zero, arsenal potentially will go backwards before going forwards, Man U still aren’t the team they were and from what I here have fairly large problems in the dressing room, Liverpool are spending big trying to catch Man City who arguably are the only team that at this moment can sustain what they are doing,

Every empire has to start somewhere Ed and this may be ours!

Onwards and upwards blues.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So you think the club is a charity and you expect this person to gift a stadium and training facilities? I have no idea of what "increased global sales" you are referring to, and although some idiot came buy saying Liverpool are exemptfrom some parts of FFP it was BS, the owners cannot invest anymore in players that the FFP rules allow - the club has to spend the money it earns.}

14 Aug 2018 16:27:44
For increased Global Sales, I suspect the poster meant to Market the Club more globally and attempt to increase income over expenditure, (I. E. spend what you earn) .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - How? Why?}

14 Aug 2018 17:26:10
I believe he would be as interested in developing the land around the proposed stadium, hotels casinos, housing etc. As much as developing the club.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 16:44:14
There are ways around it especially for the super rich, Man City have a 400m stadium naming rights from a company the owners own so that’s one way round it Usmanovs companies could do that and make it a stupid amount which enables you to spend what you want within your budget people get too bogged down with FFP, you honestly tell me Man City are spending only income that club generates from within the club ie players sold prem and champions league, no way it’s there sponsors that allow them to spend.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I guess you simply don't get it. Tell us all about these ways around FFP. The stadium came from the City of Manchester - not the owners. Liverpool are leasing land and teamed with the local council. You don't understand sponsorship notr club income at all - and yet again we are heading down the road of ill-informed posts regarding finances from Everton fans. It is really embarrassing again - please drop the finances until Everton have plotted their approach to exploiting all of the FFP and financial loop holes.}

14 Aug 2018 17:13:20
Well Ed, having read the Premiership FFP (I have mentioned it being as clear as mud and the field-day a competent Commercial/ Sports lawyer would have with them) , I took from them that you could perhaps meet the Leagues allowed loss and expenditure percentages limits by increasing your income. One way of doing that is surely to Market your Club/ Business to a wider audience. Man Utd et al have successfully done that for a number of years, admittedly we are starting from a 'little' further down the ladder.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sorry, they are clear and the clubs understand. I have no interest whatsoever in discussing FFP on the Everton page at all - it is full of supporters who will simply never understand. It causes nothing but trouble - you remember a year ago and Moshiri will be spending £200M net per window on transfers.}

14 Aug 2018 21:22:54
One thing you are missing guys is that both MC and Chelsea had their investment prior to FFP being introduced so were able to build their brand without the constraints of FFP we cant. Any investments would need to follow the FFP rules now implemented so I imagine it will take some time to get us to a place where we can compete with the bigger earners. However I can see this management team taking the club forward within a shorter timescale than the previous team.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:42:01
You say Everton supporters don't understand FFP . Are other clubs supporters more knowledgeable?

I can't help but feel that usmanov becoming involved with us was only a matter of time.
Let's face it, we are the ultimate so called sleeping giant in the English league.
With real investment and with a driven and focused board with a desire to be successful we can finally emerge as a real force again.
I didn't hear any negativity towards usmanov from arsenal fans and I suspect he will gain the control he desires at our club.
The financial power this man will bring can rival any club in world football.

So after apparently ruining the transfer market for all English clubs and playing pretty well with 10 men, how important is 3 points on Saturday? Lot of fans saying give it time, patience etc, the problem when you recruit the numbers we have in the last 3 windows non Evertonians and the media will start pilling pressure on. I think it's a must win game if we are to have a genuine crack at top 6. Although it seems that goal isn't unanimous either.
What do you lads think we should be aiming for and what would you feel if we didn't get 3 points on Saturday?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2018 06:59:45
If we didn’t get 3 points on Saturday I will be my normal self after a loss, pretty inconsolable. As for expectations, I’d be happy with 7th and a gap between us and 8th. With a smaller gap to 6th. With some exciting football to watch each week along the way would be a great season for me.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would be well happy with that ace..

14 Aug 2018 09:23:12
I think the previous transfer windows were a negative on our club. I believe we went backwards after Moyes went (please understand I am not bigging Moyes up. I am saying we went backwards after he left) . Of course other clubs have invested and moved forwards during this time. We made one or two really good signings. Lukaku and Barry spring to mind. But in general, we replaced good players with players not of the same level. Then we had the transfer window where we didn't sign a forward and seemed to sign 5 midfielders/ number 10's and no left sided players. As you all know I moaned and moaned and moaned about this, but I am pleased to say that this last transfer window was aimed at addressing the problems that the squad had. We have signed players in all the positions that I moaned were weak. We also signed players in the age groups needed for their respective positions. The only concerns I have now relate to how quickly the team can gel together and slight worries about the quality of the players we have not yet seen in an Everton shirt. One thing I am 100% positive about is that we are at last moving in the right direction again. I have no idea where we are or where we can get with this bunch of players? But I know for sure that we are ahead of the likes of Southampton and the "middle bunch of clubs". We need to now start introducing the youngsters that are coming through. Holgate in my view is a star in the making. Dowell has everything necessary to be the missing link we need. A box to box midfielder who is not afraid to run at players and even rocket one in from 30 yards. Tom Davies suffered 2nd season syndrome but believe me I saw enough in his goal against Man City to know he also has what it takes. I know lots of you think of me as Mr negative. but I see myself as Mr Realistic. And here is the key. I am now so positive about what I have seen in our youngsters, the new signings and the remaining established players. If we can find a center forward 22 year old from lower leagues or even the Irish League for about £80 grand (allowing for inflation) , we will have some team. I like Tosun, but think we need someone with more pace. Maybe Richarlison is that player? But that leaves us weak on the left again. So it is a work in progress. but at least we are progressing now. We are not going backwards and we are not standing still! To get that top 6 position, we need to keep at it.

14 Aug 2018 09:42:36
Like all Evertonians I am hungry for 3 points every match and Saturday is no exception. This season, we're only one game into it but I'd like to see the improvement we saw in that first game built upon and the new signings begin to be integrated into the team/ squad.

It might take a bit of time so I'm going to try to counter my desire for points with seeing the team grow over the next month or so. It's very early days but the shoots are already beginning to show

COYB NSNO.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 09:57:08
I know its early days, but this is probably the best chance you're going to get at breaking the top six with arsenal also in transition, however we are in it ourselves so I would also take seventh and hopefully build on that.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 10:34:20
I actually don't think 3 points this weekend is hugely important. We are a team with lots of new signings and trying t implement a new style so a short term view of 'we must win this weekend' isn't particularly helpful. More generally, I would say at no point in any season is the 2nd game a 'must win'.

Talk of challenging the top 6 is very premature considering where we were just a few months ago. Let's be patient and accept that we might not get immediate results, but what we need is an improvement over the course of 9 months, not 1 week.

Of course I want us to win every game, and of course I would love us to capitalise on our relatively gentle start in terms of opposition.

But if we play well, the players learn more about the style MS is trying to play in and show the heart and desire we showed at the weekend - and we only get a point. then it's not the end of the world.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Whilst I remain far from convinced about the manager, I am afraid that using the excuse of transition is not really good enough. This has been the excuse that Liverpool has been using year in and year out. Most players will settle reasonably quickly - perhaps one won't and will need a little extra time but teams who don't perform will fall behind.}

14 Aug 2018 12:26:01
I have to say, transition or no transition and putting all optimism to one side. Southampton at home is always a must win game. As are a lot of our opening fixtures, these are the points that give you the platform to build on. Without them pressure will mount quickly, and the young players we want to give chances to will be pushed to one side as risks become a luxury we can't afford to take. I really think we will get those points from these games, but that doesn't mean they aren't must win!

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 13:04:53
I would just like to see us keep a clean sheet. Do that and you will always have a chance of winning.

ED002 echo's my thoughts but puts those thoughts a little more eloquently than I. I do not have a downer on Silva but a realistic comment, if we are/ were looking for consistency then why oh why have we gone for a Manager/ coach that including us has had 4 Clubs in 5 years and Sporting Lisbon apart (53 percent win I think) , his CV in the Premiership looks pretty mediocre and consistency not exactly mind blowing. It will take a major mindset on his behalf to change habit. Having said that, in the Premiership we should respect all the Teams whether home or away. All we can ask is that our Team does it's best and trust that our existing Manager/ Coaching staff know what they are doing.

Ed, I take your point and agree that "teams who don't perform will fall behind".

My point is more that over 38 games over the course of 9 months we need to perform and improve. 'Improvement' from last season means being closer to the top 6 than last time, playing better football and winning more points. It also means performing better than close rivals like Leicester and West Ham.

Every win of course helps that, but if we draw our 2nd game of the season (a game we should be winning) that doesn't mean that we can't be in a better position in 9 months time than we are now.

If you take the extreme example of Palace last season. They finished 11th, 2 goals from a top half finish. That probably constituted a successful season from them and an improvement on the season before. Yet they lost their 1st 7 games without scoring a goal - the worst ever start to a Premier League season.

This may not be a transition season, but these first few weeks are certainly a transition period in the context of the season.

I was not convinced at the appointment for the same reasons ducksflysouth mentioned - however I will give him the time to make it work and don't think we should make a judgement on him until Christmas at the earliest. And we definitely shouldn't be judging him after 1 game against Southampton.

This may sound somewhat irellevant but I played some semi pro football in my time and I only ever had one thought as a player that was go out to win each game, also later on as a manager the same. Thinking of a mid table finish never came into my mind preseason! Aspire to be the best, perhaps it’s fans and media that set expectations that may seem reasonable but did someone forget to tell that to Leicester 2 seasons ago?
