i know a lot of us are disappointed with the current state of the club and direction and a lot want to see RM gone but who would you realistically want as manager?

£20m could have got Cleverley, Delefaou, Micah Richards, Traore and Shakiri and all would be good at Everton! I know what people will say about wages but we've just got rid of two senior first teamers and a handful of kids! Plus we are a prem team and need to spend to keep up!

I would be as happy and excited as anyone with Everton signing decent players. I'm not convinced with Martinez as manager but I am impressed with his resistance to sell our best players. I also am pleased with the way he tied down so many of the important players over the last year. I also agree with him not buying players for the sake of it. They have to fit in and most importantly improve the team. Keeping what we have and adding Clev, Del boy and Holgate is not bad business. Only way Everton will get better with the budget we have is 1. Hold the players we have. 2. Only add players that will make us better. We don't have the budget Utd, Chelsea, Man City have. I'm impressed with the squad. It's Martinez tatics that I think needs to change than bringing in players just to make us excited. More direct football up the pitch, with Miralles, Barkley, Del boy and Lukaku doing there magic would be enough to excite rather than continous sideways passing.

14 Aug 2015 22:17:14
I am sure we will leave it a late as possible as all the money clubs will have done their buying and will then have decent players surplus to requirements, then clubs like us can step in and possibly pick up a bargain or good players on cheap loans

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed030's Note - I doubt it, clubs are not silly enough to let good players on cheap loans. Maybe a bargain as that is all Everton can afford by the looks of it. }

I am going to stick my neck out, I really believe R M when he says we are going to finish the transfer window with 3 extra players and be stronger, we have to be patient I am sure there is lots going on behind the scenes and some big names are going to arrive, I wish the team good luck for tomorrow coyb, GuernseyBlue

we were always going to add more and lookin on the positive side I for one am very excited by who we will bring in think we will see some quality players arrive soon which imo will give us the strongest squad we have had in a long time very tough game tomorrow hope the fans get right behind the team from the off

14 Aug 2015 20:57:40
Martinez has asked the fans to trust him so I guess we have no other choice. Let's hope the three incoming players are not other team's misfits like Evans. So far the two incoming players have fit the normal Martinez requirements i.e. they have played for him before and so he feels comfortable bringing them in. Hopefully our Scouting team, if we have one, have identified three gems who will be available before the end of the transfer window, are willing to come to play for us, Everton can afford them and they are capable of slotting into the team in the short term.

I'm getting p-ssed off with the lack of transfer news, every day waiting/expecting something to happen, something to get me and every other Evertonian excited, only to be disappointed. Come on Blues give us something, anything. I need something to keep the optimist in me going.

Criticism of how badly the club is being run, now seems to have a new stock answer ( Bill is unwell) I'm not trying to put the boot in if the man is ill, but he has not been ill for the last 5 years, and our clear decline has been going on at least that long.We have been lied to, onership intentions, new investment, new ground, new player, take your pick.
Bill Kenwright, is a man with other busness concerns, now in his late 60s, and now seemingly to unwell to activley pursue the leadership roll so badley needed at goodison.
He might reasonabley expect some thanks and gratitude for saveing the club from Jonhston, but with respect, whoevers fault it is, thing are dire, and in all the circumstances it really is time that ownership should go, to those able to take our club forward.

Makes me worry we may have to rely on getting Garbutt back off loan because Baines is injured, shows how shallow our squad is, sure many people like me are frustrated at the lack of transfers to the club, RM says he needs 3 signings, who? When? How much?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

14 Aug 2015 19:37:06
He said he wants 3 new players mate, a Centre Back, presumably to beef up the squad, take pressure off of Browning and Galloway and to replace those who have left (Distin and Alcaraz). A Number 10 hopefully a Playmaker and someone to support Rom up top (though he may want one for a different reason). A Striker I hope to give us something else, if Kone or Lukaku gets injured we will be over reliant on just one of them for every competition. It also makes playing with 2 up top a little easier. I don't know who though mate, obviously rumours about Shaqiri and now Lennon, thing is, Lennon cannot play in the positions we need, I would love Lennon back, my hope is too allow us to play with 2 natural wingers more often and it means McGeady is going. There have been whispers maybe he wants Kev to play behind Rom but I don't know. Barely any rumours for Centre Backs, Van Dijk has went quiet though there is paper talk today of Zapata from AC Milan, won't lie, never seen him play. In terms of Strikers, bar austin there has been nothing even resembling confirmed or likely interest in anyone else. No idea when but I would put my money on no one signing until deadline day, not soon enough or good enough imo.

It appears that most Evertonians (not all, I admit, but a fair majority) do not want to see us cash-in on Stones (or any of our other talent) during this transfer window. We certainly don't want to be bullied by other clubs - or agents - into letting these players leave. However, a similar majority of our fans do understand and accept that these players may well leave in a couple if years or so - unless we get Champions League football here and/or can afford to pay mega-wages. If the players stay loyal and contribute for a couple of years, then I don't think they'd be begrudged an opportunity with a more successful and higher-paying club. Of course, it would be nice if we could satisfy these players' ambitions, but I fear it'll be a long haul to get near (let alone on a par) with the "elite" clubs. As Evertonians, we live in hope - if not in any realistic expectation of some success ;-)

I have nothing against EFC, the board, fans, transfers at all, its just the football we play. Its the slowest, most pedestrian, predictable and the easiest to be outmuscled in the Prem. It matters not who we buy, striker, No10, centre back whatever, unless we change our style, pace n power, we are going to struggle. Only one man can change that and boy it would be Phenomenal if he did.

Are there any fans on here that are happy with the slow football we played the majority of last season and are continuing to play this season? I'm just curious because if we can all see that its too slow and not effective at breaking teams down then why can no one at the club see this!?! Or do any of you think maybe Martinez is planning to play this style of football for the foreseeable future and believes that in time we will progress with it. If that is his plan then its a very risky plan because if results don't pick up then he could be out of a job.

Our problems as a club is only partially Roberto Martinez fault the fact that he likes passing flowing football is not the problem the problem is he always sets up so defensive so that when we invariably go behind in a game we do not have the right attack minded personal on the pitch to make a difference he is very pragmatic despite his very upbeat easy going attitude plus his love of pure football probably means he would rather see his team score a goal preceded by twenty passes instead of a scrappy tap in or from a corner a win is a win something we are losing the habit of as an evertonian of some twenty five years plus I want to see my side start winning games on a more regular basis then we can work on the other problems.

Don't understand the press conferences. It's as though someone has briefed them beforehand and said there are certain questions off limit. Why don't they ask some questions which would give us an idea of what is going on. for example. did we have a genuine interest in
Shaquiri?
Did we make a bid? Are the three players wanted and presumably identified at the end of the season still possibilities. or have we been outmanoevred in the market?
In the absence of new players who does the manager see as being the creative playmaker in his midfield?
Yesterday's conference was so lame.

Disagree. He answered some of your questions. He says clearly we still need 3 players and he is extremely confident we will get them.
With regards to direct questions about players it would be stupidly hypercritical of him considering he said just a week ago what Chelsea were doing with stones is illegal and he would never speak of a player contracted to another club.
Once again I'm not a fan of booby brown shoes but seriously if you watch all 20 press conferences of the leagues managers from this week his was by far the most open and bullish. Give it a rest will ya and wait until September

14 Aug 2015 17:46:32
Also well done Stan Collymore, asking questions about our board, why have we failed 3 Stadium moves, why is there no money, why is no one selling. These questions need answering but of course no one at the club speaks, he also said we are a big club that deserves better and we are being fooled by everyone in charge in to thinking mid table is a massive achievement and all our failures boil down to the failures of everyone at the top from Kenwright to Elstone. Bout time someone started questioning the fraudulent liars who make the key decisions for the club. Bring back Alan Myers too so we can have some communication!.

14 Aug 2015 20:48:29
yer swan I liked alan myers remember when he left most people were baffled why he went because he was doing a good job he seemed to leave under a cloud maybe he asked for more clarity from the club and as you know Everton's board don't like that and made his job a bloody nightmare

14 Aug 2015 17:43:51
I kinda get the feeling when Roberto said we needed 3 players and we will use the whole window to get them, he was talking about three last minute loan deals again. don't get me wrong barring injuries we will have a good season but when has that ever happened, god help us if stones or jags get injured.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2015 17:14:28
What is rm on? Going on about the transfer window should be closed before the season starts, and then says we need to buy 2-3 new players, if the transfer window closed before the season started we would never buy anyone as we save wages until the end of the transfer window

Believable2 Unbelievable1

14 Aug 2015 17:37:55
Just because he believes that (like near enough all Managers in England do) it doesn't mean he should sit back and not sign anyone after the first game. The reality is that the window DOES NOT shut before the season starts and is still open so he is legally aloud to buy players. He just doesn't think it should still be open but it so he has the right to still want to buy players. What is the issue?.

Agree1 Disagree1

14 Aug 2015 17:50:01

14 Aug 2015 18:17:38
If reasons to not buy early boil down to saving a few weeks wages then we should not be in the prem that's nonsense, although I'm annoyed we have not spent much I have a gut feeling we will end up with 2 or 3 more signings which will bring spend to around 25m don't ask for names cause I ain't got a clue, but we always do our transfer dealings under the radar we don't do circus shows like some clubs towards end of deadline remember Tottenham under Rednapp and levy they used to do all that to attract media attention some people thrive on it.
As fans we know we can't compete financially with the top 5 clubs, but sky money is massive to all clubs in prem it increases all the time which is why teams like Stoke can now spend 10-15m on a player West Brom and West Ham doing same so why are we not competing even with them, Stan collymore is spot on "Something just ain't right at our club" and as know one comes out from the club to talk to the fans to what is going on with our club we loose respect for board we know your skint but this is huge money coming in from Sky we seem to be the only club that it does not impact as much as I like Bill he has done a great job and is a true blue but he was let down by the people who was on the board I would love him to stay on with new owners but I think he just needs to sell the great phrase if you love Everton bill you would let go and sell

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good post metz..

In or Out

we are all hopping that someone big will come before the deadline m8s but with Ken and co think someone will go on last day and then tell us to late to get anyone?? it is going to be a long season, I do hope that I am wrong, please call Garbutt back now.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

14 Aug 2015 17:40:13
Imo no one will sign until Deadline Day and it all looks great but then when the season is over and we realise those signings could of earned us an extra win or draw and because of that we finished further down then we should of. Bill and Martinez will love looking like heroes on Deadline Day but when it turns out we dropped points because we didn't get the players in earlier it will look completely pointless.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fair point mate..

14 Aug 2015 17:02:42
I'm actually dreading the next 17 days of this window, I don't think we're going to sign anybody, it's desperate. All and sundry buying players left right and centre, why can't we just buy players instead of the none stopbullshit we get drip fed, about the process and the right fit and how the have to be a "unique talent" that's rm's favourite saying, well it does my nut in, stop f***ing about with our team and go back to Wigan, we're relegation fodder under this clown

Believable1 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2015 17:41:55
The thing that annoys me is I wonder how many players we have missed out on because we insist on paying over 5 years? It may be good for us but it's not for the other team and their needs come first as they have the player we need. Like when we tried 8m on MCarthy over 4 years, how utterly ridiculous.

I bet it's the same team that started on Saturday again will see delboy on bench should imagine so 1 week on from 1st game and no signs that our starting line is going to change only 2 weeks left for us to get 1 or 2 players that will improve us need to buck up our ideas at the back, we can all blame Martinez tactics but the fact is we scored 2 good goals and conceded 2 sloppy goals 1st one hit jags and fell straight to there player so that was a little unlucky buts jagielka should be dealing with it and goal no 2 stones got left on his backside on edge of our area should not be going to ground in those areas unless need too we can buy all the players in the world but good defending does not cost lots of money, Moyes had our back four solid most of the time very hard to break down and we were, got to get the back a lot of people would say Baines and Coleman our 2 of the best full backs in league and stones is going to be world class and a great player now so why is our defence so bad

With regards to the same team, our hands are tied to a certain extent with players coming back from injury etc. I think Galloway will be replaced by Oviedo but that will be the only change unless others are also carrying knocks. Moyes was sound defensively but RM has us passing the ball around the back so much that mistakes always prove costly. When we sacrifice a CM position for an attacker we look quite lively as we get the ball forward at a quicker pace. That was evident from the last match, let's hope RM can see that!

Listening to talk sport last night The words they said that we are being contradictive because we expected Barnsley to sell john stones to us but we don't want to sell John stones to Chelsea, but Everton are doing the right thing not letting de gea go to Madrid .chelsea may be a step up from Everton but Madrid is as big of step up from Utd I wondered who was being contradictive . No disrespect to barnsley, but we should be able to mix it up with youth and still win the game. It's the perfect opportunity to see the youth in a competitive game. Anyone remember arsenal getting to the league cup final without a 1st player getting a game until the final.they even beat us 4-0 on their way to final. Perfect opportunity to see the likes of, ledson, henen, browning and dowell get playing time.
