Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone can offer input on my defensive thoughts.
Stones may or may not be off, and we are actively linked with replacements if he does. What does this mean for the future of Jags? My personal opinion is that our standout defender last season was Funes Mori. I have no doubt he will be a regular this season and so with Stones/ Stones replacement most likely getting the regular spot do you think Jagielka will be content fighting for a spot or being used as back up? I can't help but feel he will look for a move as he has a lot to offer still and i'm sure clubs like Stoke, Southampton, Leicester etc would all be viable options. If i'm wrong and its Mori who is the backup then i'd be gutted because he would certainly generate interest from clubs and be off like a shot, more of a loss than Stones leaving.

Think with jags maybe what the other lot did with carragher as I would imagine he would be great to have around the squad even if not playing as much. If stones stays I think he could move forward a bit to play the defencive mid postion so if that's the case we rob still need maybe 2 centre backs.

Agree1 Disagree2

14 Jul 2016 08:46:09
Its not a case of wanting to have him around for his influence though is it, i imagine he will want game time and so therefore move on.
And i think there's no way at all Stones would become Def Mid, he knows his future is a commanding CenterBack, why put that in jeopardy by taking on a new position. I think he would only consider that role if at a club like Man City with much more competition and so giving himself better chances of making the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2016 12:24:37
Commanding centre back is a player that takes no crap no risks and puts it when needed in row z with the attacker going there also people fear and respect them. John stones is not feared at times he is played on as he can make a mistake and other teams know this. Also it's not a new position if he likes to run with the ball he likes to pass the ball (not successful all the time) but can still tackle that is like Eric Dier of Tottenham is doing he was a centre back that we had on loan 2 times a few years ago but he liked to run with the ball out of defence and try and pick a pass. There is a chance that stones can do this is what I was saying that we can put him in a different postion to what he is in at the minute.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2016 15:38:01
I don't believe that's an acurate view of a commanding centerback. Yes, at times that's the right approach, but look at the best cbs in modern football right now, Pique, Ramos, Hummels, Bonucci etc. They play the passing game, are composed and will play the ball out of trouble rather than just hoof it. Are they not commanding?
In theiry yes he could play def mid but i don't see it at all. How many cbs have ever changed to that position, its rare and generally unsuccesful and i 100% don't see that happening with Stones either.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2016 22:27:21
Might sound stupid but Thierry Henry s available as a coach if we was able to get him training rom with big dunc imagine what could happen he would be able to control the ball run with it and beat the crap out of anyone that tried to stop him. I seriously think it's worth ago let's be honest one of the best strikers ever to play in this league.

What is wrong with Everton ed? We were promised an exciting summer and people are losing patience. Do we really have £100m to spend or have we been kidded?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no doubt changes will be made.}

13 Jul 2016 22:36:50
It's very simple when Rk joined he was asked about transfers he stated he will assess the squad properly before deciding who he would like to bring in. That is what's happening now. Relax man!

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Jul 2016 23:16:19
Sure he will have a minimum of 100m in his budget, sell stones, and that goes to 150m, and if he needs more, i think he will get it, this new owner is not MR kenwright, all promise but no delivery, the only thing he will demand is results and surley that's what we all want.

{Ed007's Note - That's because I wasn't on that particular job! :-D

14 Jul 2016 12:45:58
When you look at the quality of player we are after there will be more completion to sign them so it's not a quick job it takes time as the agents may be speaking to several interested parties, we are competing with top European clubs with some of the names linked.

Somebody once said ' I have a dream'

Mrs Tedster will tell you that I dream a lot. She best describes my dreams as random. They can cover events and people from the past, present and future.

Rather embarrassingly lately, I'm ashamed to say I had a dream involving myself, Klipperty and Gateacre. That's all your'e getting.

A much better one was set around the year 2020. I met my lad and grandson at Lime Street Station. It was my grandson's first match. I have always worried about him turning into a Gooner with him living in North London and wanted to get him to experience the wonder of walking up the steps and seeing the pitch for the first time to clinch the deal.

Anyway next thing we were on the Merseyrail and got off the stop after Moorfields. The stop wasn't Sandhills though. I can't remember the name of this station but it was purpose built for the new ground. We were just a bit further out of town from Costco.

The first time I went and the first time I took my lad we were in the Park End. This time though, the way the ground was configured we were in the opposite end. The stand was called the Legends Stand and as we went through the turnstiles on the walls underneath were pictures of legends Dixie, Golden Vision, Holy Trinity, Bob Latchford etc. It was magical and proud moment.

To paraphrase the words of someone else if it were to come true ' I would really love it'.

Ed do you think we are struggling to sign players or we just keep are cards close to our chests iys just another day another 3 or 4 different players linked .

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - let me explain whats happening konehead.....because we have a billionaire owner other clubs are going to try and shaft us, we are now in the realms of the likes of united, city and liverpool where players that last year would cost £15m are now £25 million because they know we have money. these clubs know that our new manager wants to put his stamp on the club and recruit good players but the money they are asking is ridiculous, wijnaldum for example is a £15m player tops and newcastle want £25m, the same thing has happened with the likes of david luiz, depay, and raheem stirling who are players that are very good but not worth any where near what was paid for them, in my view we are now in a similar situation and the supporters are getting restless because we are not willing to pay through the nose for overpriced average players, we will sign a few quality players but we wont be taken advantage of and i like that, things will happen shortly and i ask that we dont panic buy and hope the supporters dont start panicking and having a go at the club yet mate..we are in this together guys..COYB..

13 Jul 2016 21:13:37
The other aspect of this ed is that English teams now have plenty of money so don't feel any pressure to sell players unless stupid amounts are offered. Of course if the player wants to leave then that is another matter. I would suspect that nearer the end of the transfer window more realistic amounts will be quoted as players force the issue. Unfortunately their are teams that will pay these ridiculous amounts and we can only hope that some decent players are left when it comes to our turn.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i suspect you are right mike, mind you us asking £65m for rom makes us just as bad as the rest mate..the worlds gone mad..

13 Jul 2016 19:10:23
Just want to say good luck to stones in the future he will
Go on to achieve great things with future clubs. He's been a great player at times and a respectful young lad towards our club even when he's wanted to leave which you can't blame him he's not an Everton fan and at the end of the day it's a job would you change your job for double the money and to be under one of the best managers in the world because I would. The only player I would hate to see leave is Ross because he's a Everton fan and got huge potential.

13 Jul 2016 19:07:51
I don't see any need to slate him or boo him next season he took the brunt of everybody's frustration last year I felt a bit sorry for the lad. And at least he hasn't been up to the dirty tricks lukaku has been up to. Let him go and move on.

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Jul 2016 20:48:11
I don't under stand the negativity on here. John stones conducted himself very well after last seasons transfer rebuttal, he kept his head down and cracked on. Ok he had some bad games. but most did under previous manager. He got booed a number of times at home by his own fans. yes he gets paid well, but 1000s of people baying for the blood of a 22 yr old. not many would put up with that. This time around a top, top manager makes him his top defensive target, promising wage increase, champions league footy. and people question why he wants to move and criticise him. Everton fans have to realise that football is bigger than just one club (barca and real excluded) . give the lad a break. Secondly regarding the purchase of players or lack of. I'd be more worried if RK came in and overhauled a squad that he has not evaluated. he and his team need time to assess and determine their targets. it's not the job of the media or agents to do this. Finally, for years people have been moaning about everton having no ambition or competitive edge. surely waiting a little longer so that RK gets it right rather than charging like a bull in a china shop isn't a great ask! Calm down and get realistic.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - count me in on all of that jcl..

13 Jul 2016 21:11:38
He wanted to go 12 months ago but stayed on. He didn't have the best of seasons granted but he missed out on playing in the Euro games. If he'd gone to Chelsea he make have kept Cahill out of the side both for club and country. He won't want to make the same mistake again. It's probably now or never for the lad. Good luck to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2016 07:02:49
I for one wish him well. He kept his head down and cracked on last season. Pep sees the footballing side of John's game and that is what City are paying for. He is the best ball playing centre half this country has and yes I will be sorry to see him leave but in a way don't blame him especially the way he was treated by a minority of fans getting on his back constantly.

RK has a passing excercise going on. yellow bibs mess up n ordered down for 'push ups'. camera pans around to Gerry with a beaming smile with his foot on the back of a 'yellow bib' doing press ups and Gerry pressing him down with his boot. made me smile.

Hi Ed, just checked the valuation of Kevin Gameiro around the £12 to £13 million mark, although 29 he looks the complete striker, holds the ball well, can dribble, great at making runs into space and a decent finisher, now I know he is not a player we have looked at but looks the ideal partnership for our striker, what do you think about him and is it a player you would give the thumbs up if he was a summer target in weeks to come and what do fellow posters think about the guy.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i rate him baz and even though age is against him for that sort of money he seemas a steal..compared to niasse anyway.. :)

13 Jul 2016 16:15:24
I can see Kevin Mirallas being like a new signing this coming season. It was clear he didnth get on with his last boss but he has talent and if harnessed correctly and by a manager who has faith in him he could well prove his worth finally.

Fans/ posters regularly write about reports in the media about incoming and outgoing transfers - often citing several instances of the same stories.
Just because a story appears in several news outlets doesn't make it any more "true". If you read those stories in the media, they almost always refer to another media source being where a transfer has been "reported". Very rarely - if ever - have these stories been directly checked - let alone sourced - by every media outlet that reports them. They're just regurgitating and recycling the same stories.
In many cases, there may well be a kernel of truth in the stories, but I'll take most stories with a large pinch of salt until a NAMED source is directly quoted in a media outlet that has actually checked the story. Beyond that, the stories are just fillers for media outlets to provide for insatiable fans. I enjoy the craic as much as anyone, but I don't get overly swayed by unsupported speculation from social media as well as traditional, media.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

13 Jul 2016 13:57:58
Very true Sid. When you see statements like "according to reports" or so and so "understands" then don't bother reading, just recycled rubbish. I don't believe any of these stories until the fat lady sings or in our case Bill.

13 Jul 2016 15:26:27
Ed001: Am I being cynical by thinking that just like the Ancient Roman emperors gave the mob bread and circuses to keep them subservient, so the modern media outlets feed the public a diet of celebrity gossip, reality TV, and banal trivialities (all ardently marketed) to keep them as a captive audience? Surely we're much better than that and we're actually only going along with it in a sense of irony and for our own personal, amusement as free-thinking individuals making our own intelligent decisions?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes I agree completely. I was looking at Newsnow just this morning, and one section, the 'Entertainment and Arts' section of the front page just had a bunch of links to minor 'celebs' having lunch with their mother or taking their kids to the beach or showing 'insane cleavage'. I mean is that really news? I fear for the future if that is what is now considered news. Personally I would ban 'reality TV'. It is just dross.}

13 Jul 2016 11:25:37
Pretty likely to be all paper wtalk as most of it is, especially as we were linked with the lad a season or so ago.

but eds what do we know about Hakim Ziyech and his situation? we were linked over the apst couple days and i believe his club is in some serious finiacial issues or someting right now whihc could see him leave ont he cheap?

was a stand out player int he league last season from what I've heard so do you know if interest is genuine?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2016 10:38:24
Just a thought. With all this talk of who's coming and who's going. When you really think about it, we were fine going forward but just couldn't defend. And had a dodgy keeper/ keepers. So if we lose Stones (a defender) , but no other key players. Then surely our main concern is strengthening the defence. So new centre half and goal keeper, but get the best possible. If we could steal Mata for 20m then that would be a bonus. Think about it, how many points did we throw away last season due to poor defending.

i think you're right Twoold2.
we have players that are good enough for a top 5 finish and nearly achieved so under martinez in the first season. our players are surely better now then they were back then and now we have other squa players like Mori, Cleverly and Lennon who may not be our best players but are now prem proven and good for rotation/ injury replacemnts.

Im sure RK knows this and will amke purchases where he sees fit but a lot of it does depend on who leaves and who stays.

Rugani or Koulibaly would be good alternatives for Stones, i hope that if interest is genuine and we get one/ both of them they can adjust to the prem.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2016 11:09:25
and not forgetting a footballing legend is in charge now who has a great team behind him, big things for us next season as fitness levels will increase dramatically and if someone doesn't perform well then I don't think they will get a hug from Koeman like they did from RM.

Don't know if any of you guys have been to the M/ K stadium before, but it is a good example of the room required for modern grounds these days. I used to take my boys there as they were both born near the area, and my eldest played for them up to u19. Still have a place near M/ K so will be coming back for the game. Hopefully the blue end will be full, and we can generate a good atmosphere. See you there.

A stadium inside a retail park. I done a job for Bolton fans last season and took them to the stadium MK. The set up for coach parking is poor as there is only enough room for 10 coaches, so god knows what will happen pre season aso I'm sure we will take a decent following dependant on the team.
