I think the clean sheet was also a good positive out of this game, JP made better decisions today, and going long from the back also stopped Bournemouth’s pressing game and they struggled to adapt to that tactic. I think teams press up when we do play out from the back and Gomez isn’t on form at the moment to make that extra man and bring it through the middle. However Richarlison isn’t a target man and the physicality of that role isn’t his game he got no protection from the ref today or any decision unless we were in our own half.

He also continues to make stupid mistakes. Part of the problem is that it would appear he has no competition for his place.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Jan 2019 09:19:56
what stupid mistakes did he make yesterday, absolutely kept us in the game the last 10 mins or so him and keane kept us in with a chance of all 3 pts. Get on him when he cocks up by all means if that's the type of fan u r but when he has a good game and keeps a clean sheet give him some credit mate.

Anthony Taylor man of the match got the crowd off the backs of the players and onto him, how gutted did he look when dcl scored. Taylor Taylor what's the score! Best chant of the season!

i no gomes went a bit too far today and got away with getting sent off but wasnt it nice to see someone have that passion and willingness to fight for the ball, bring back jimmy mc in the team we need an angry cm who will get in peoples faces.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Jan 2019 07:19:50
He was knackered not passionate, frustrated at giving the ball away and beaten to the tackle. It was obvious against Leicester he needed a rest, when the ball comes to him the game almost stops.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Jan 2019 07:56:53
I agree he looked tired mate but too many of our players shy away from confrontation and don't get in the refs ear, yesterday whenever he got kicked himself he was up having a go at the opposition and the ref. Sometimes i think wer too nice on the pitch mate and need someone who is willing to get at the ref which he tried to do yesterday but totally agree he needs a break, as av said previously i would give him a rest put siggy next to ganna and have lookman bernard and richie behind DCL.

Hey 3 points today Wolves have Man C tomorrow good chance to move up the league with Southampton on Sat but can be done bring it on.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2019 21:15:27
Just need to keep it tight at the back and take the chances we are getting, still need that striker in thought Bernard had a good game today didn't see why he had to come off would have taken Gomes off before he got a second yellow but 3 points and onto Southampton 3 away games coming up let's start moving up the table.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2019 03:39:51
I wondered why he wasn't taken off myself Lee as you could see him getting more riled up as the game went on. Still, it's nice to see a bit of passion for a change.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 20:17:04
It's funny that the two smallest players on the pitch today (Lookman and Bernard) were the most technically effective ones. I really like Bernard, his touch is so good. But He's Brazilian, Standard. Whereas Lookmans touch is amazing for a very youthful Brit. We must keep this guy and develope him, he's going to be one of the best players in the league. Left foot, right foot, first touch, two touch. The kid has it all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree on ademola ace but bernard does not fill me with confidence though i must say, he loses the ball too easily and though he certainly has the talent i think he is struggling with the physicality of this league, hopefully that will change the longer he stays and im certainly not giving up on him just yet mate..

13 Jan 2019 20:38:07
Got to agree with Ed25, Lookman showing what he can do today, always knew what he could do, watched him in Germany and had good reports from family. Bernard better off as an AM if we need to play him. Much rather have Richarlison where he is most effective in my view and Lookman on the other flank. Little bit worried about Gomez to be honest, does not look anything like the player that started his season. Mina as well for me, in my humble not worth the money we laid out. Maybe better alongside Keane with Zouma in front of them (if you can envisage what I am getting at) . Poor very poor first half, started slow but unlike Leicester game, gained in confidence and held it for long periods until the panic for a result kicked in toward the final minutes. DCL, an enigma, should we give him a few games, I mean we have 16 games to go and now have 30 points.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 20:51:57
I see your point Ed. And I think it’s evident that he needs to improve physically as Silva never plays him beyond 70 mins. I do think he is technically very good though. DFS, I just think Gomez needs a rest. He is used to having a mid season break. He hasn’t had a proper pre season. He hit the ground running like nothing I have seen before. So taking your point about where we are points wise with games remaining, I would likely give him two weeks off so as to get the most out of him for the remainder after that of the campaign. DCL is a bit inconsistent for me, although he is young and my goodness he took his goal well. If we don’t sell Tosun in the TW then I’d give him a run. I just don’t thing we have given him the run he needs to get into the grove of scoring.

Think Digne was excellent as well mate.

13 Jan 2019 20:22:46
What a struggle, EFC should carry a health warning!
With the risk of repeating myself, the midfield is almost none existent. Gomes and Sigurdsson lack pace and offer very little in terms of cover when defending or the consistent creativity to open up defences.
I would certainly not be in too much of a hurry to sign Gomes.
Again carrying two or three under performers and IMO Silva should have replaced Sigurdsson at half time with DCL slotting Bernard, who does have a change of pace and good first touch, into the no.10 slot and moved Richarlison to LW.
It's taken Marco half the season to realise Lookman should be a regular starter ( mom last two games) . Rather than splash the cash on a striker, DCL should be given an extended run because with games will come improved performance and before the doubters start pointing out the million or so gained for each higher placing in the league, it pales into insignificance when you consider £27m for Tosun, £20m for Walcott and £13m for Niasse which was spent through desperation in previous January transfer windows.

I am one of those that advocate places mean increased income but I also very much agree with you FS. 6th place has gone now, 7th maybe reachable if Teams have a meltdown but 8th should be achievable if consistency and playing as a Team can be hammered into them. So Ricky back to the wing, Bernard in No 10 and DCL up front could very well work for these final 16 games.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 20:43:43
I like DCL Fancy but, we ain't going to get top 7 or higher if he the 1st no 9 on our team sheet.
He, at the moment is 2nd or 3rd choice at best.
If, we continue to be 10th or 11th, then he gets in the team but we have to aim higher.

1st half we looked anxious and nervous and players seemed scared to commit forward and that allowed Bournemouth a bit of a foothold in the game, and this can only be because of recent results. 2nd half we came out with more purpose and began to control the game and got the goal to settle the nerves, still didn't control the game but the confidence and aggression was more evident. A good 3 points and hopefully we can now kick on and start playing with confidence and to our ability.

{Ed025's Note - lets hope so gray..

13 Jan 2019 18:06:29
How is Fraser Hornby, is he back playing yet. He was progressing well. Also I wonder when Niasse went to Hull on loan MS played him all the time, yet he is not even a squad player now, why?

13 Jan 2019 18:32:53
Hi ed025, that's one down 4 to go out of my 5 mate. Lookman man of the match.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - right on both counts penysarn, first half we looked very nervous and the crowd did not help, but second half was much better mate and although we looked shaky late on it was a well deserved very important result..

13 Jan 2019 19:04:43
What do you think the chances are of starting with both Lookman and Calvert Lewin for the next game mate and yes they were bad in the first half.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i hope ademola gets a good run now penysarn, DCL seems to be more effective coming from the bench but in sue he does not feel that way mate..

13 Jan 2019 19:06:01
Agreed Ed. A much needed win which will hopefully boost the teams confidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that plus better organisation would be good BigH, we still gave the ball away too easily for me mate and need more intensity, but a win,s a win and i will take that at the moment..

13 Jan 2019 20:46:25
Keep the same team for the next 4/ 5 games and let's build some understanding between this starting 11.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 17:09:11
Dcl scores goals I don't no y he isn't getting moor game time over the strikers who aren't scoring goals.

What strikers are they Shakey?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 18:10:34
Tousan richarlson nias Walcott these can all play as striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 19:00:58
Tosun not good enough, as Ed 025 says too much huff and puff Walcott and Richarlison neither are strikers, we need to sign an out and out striker am sure Marco will address this.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 19:26:02
He may to address this GB but as already hinted the funds are not there until we lighten the load on existing finances. There are lots of variables but let's take existing: I think we should wait on Gomes until summer see how he goes in this last 16. A RW (Lookman doing well, confidence and consistency) as backup, a RB and a DM/ playmaker for Summer. Striker is a must, if funds and quality available, this window or if not then muddle through until Summer. Meanwhile points = position = increased remuneration.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 19:34:57
That's why I'm saying why doesn't dcl get a good run In the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 19:12:13
Maybe the gaffer thinks he makes more of an impact coming on late on when opposition defence is tired?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - and i would agree with him mate..

13 Jan 2019 19:57:28
said it for ages mate DCL if he was foreign would be held in high regard but cos he's english he goes un noticed. he's 21 been playing in premier league for 3 years now and scores constantly for england, if brazil won u20 world cup and we wer linked with the lad who scored the winner in the final everyone would be raving about him.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 20:26:36
Have to say agree with you guys, but hey I said the same about Lookman and Digne and I reckon they were the best players on the pitch today, i still also think there will be a few out this window and Marco will bring in a striker, we will see only just over two weeks to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 20:50:28
DCL gets more game time than Tosun and Niasse. If we want Bernard and Lookman to play, which I do, then Richarlison has to start up front.
DCL from the bench.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 21:41:24
smit why can't lookman richie and bernard be the 3 behind DCL? play all four, them 3 playing together interchanging would be so hard to mark siggy needs a rest for me he's been poor last few games or play him next to gana and rest Gomes who has looked tired.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 17:02:49
Probably one of the worst refereeing performances I have seen in the premier league. Wrong decisions on both sides and not in control of the game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2019 17:21:51
He tried too hard to keep players on the pitch, including ours. Gomez should have had 2 reds. It seemed he was missing everything.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 17:32:45
Worst performance of the game. Hasn't sent anyone off for 22 games and it shows why.
Everton were guilty of poor conduct but the ref and assistants were nothing short of terrible.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 19:15:29
I'm not saying we didn't deserve them, we could have had a couple of reds too, but 5 yellows for us and none for them?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 20:07:40
Good point BigH. That stat alone tells its own story. Ref had a shocker today. It’s my strong belief that if you have to book someone for descent then the ref has probably got it wrong. It looked like 2 of our players were yellowed for disagreeing with him. I could be wrong though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think your right ace..

Started really badly but pulled themselves together and battled well, I did see signs of the team working hard for each other and a bit of shape in there play so let's hope things are on the up.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 20:11:33
DC, it’s one of those performances that almost resets the team from being in a rut. Not pretty but enough to set us up for better performances. Pleased that Lookman has had two very good performances in a row.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 16:32:47
My god that was ugly. 3 points in the bag is what we needed. Lookman by far best on the park. Gomes looks like he is running on empty and angry. Quite easily could have been sent off.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2019 17:07:11
Gomes not been the same since injury. Mina bought on goal he scored against England. Of the 3 from Barcelona Digne has proved to be worth it. Lookman looked to have shown he is the better choice at RW. Coleman more disciplined but still believe Kenny better option. Bernard did okay for me but need a striker so Richarlison back to LW. Have to stop now, hard to focus.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 17:29:20
I agree dfs mate, we definitely need a striker and too many mistakes by too many players, thought Lookman and Digne played well hopefully good enough to get a another start in Lookmans case.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 17:35:58
Agree with most of that. We do need a RB though and competition for Pickford until he's 28.
We won't be consistently 7th or 6th with Gana as 1st choice. When Gomes or another CM is having an off day, we need a CM who can take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 16:31:20
Lukaku on the bench at Man U, he would play every game for us, Please Mr Moshiri go get him.

We should be bossing these type of games GB and as much as I love Gana, we will always be a man down on the attack with him inn the team.
We nèed to be ambitious against the teams outside the top 6 and play either Davies or Siggy alongside Gomes.

13 Jan 2019 15:10:43
There's no getting away from it, Bournemouth have caused us one or two problems. Apart from the last 10 minutes we've looked second best all over the pitch. Siggy and Digne have been quiet so far. Better second half required.

Throw-ins - is a part of the game not many people talk about. I have noticed a lot recently the amount of times the team taking the throw lose the ball. It would be interesting to see a stat on this. Especially in the modern game and possession is so vital. Martinez didn’t like corners and would prefer to take a short one to retain the the ball. Surprisingly he was one of the worst from throw ins and we lost the ball so many times.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0
