Heard it royalpaul, radio merseyside. While I am here, I was on my way back home tonight from work down the A57 and there was speedo Mick with his back pack on trudging along the road heading for Wembley on his sponsored walk. I would just like to say good luck to Mick and well done for all his efforts in raising money for the woodlands.

Am I the only one who sees this as a positive? The more bs he spouts off, the more he is going to piss off the board and push them in a corner. He is full of contradictions and rarely makes sense. Not too sure Moshiri will want to keep him, even before taking into account the footballing side. I've got a feeling he will be gone before, or immediately after, the Liverpool game.

Reply to Bluetommy re midfielders not scoring goals. Yes we are the 5th highest scorers and yes conceding goals is our main problem. However, look at the stats and we have a big proportion of possession. The problem is that we have 55% or more possession every game where we aimlessly pass the ball around. It goes accross the back four. into midfield, up to a winger, then back tomidfield, then back to Joel who lumps it forward. We then lose possession, win it back with one of our industrial midfielders and the proccess repeats. Shots on target for the amount of possession does not compute. We should be shooting every 5 minutes. not once a game like sometimes. This is because we have 4 midfielders who are happy to play a part in what I have just described. The 4 of them hardly ever register a shot but play a part in retaining this possession. Eventually we lose the ball and by that time, the opposition have regrouped and break out quickly against us or get a set piece and we defend it badly. In all this time, we rely on Lukaku or Barkley to score a goal. If either or both of these are out of sorts or stopped by the opposition. or injured or suspended, that is the main source of our attack stopped. 4 seasons ago, we had both full backs scoring. We had a team that broke quickly and registered shots. We had midfielders getting into scoring positions and actually contributing a good percentaage of goals. Teams have sussed us now. Stop Lukaku and Barkley and you can easily beat Everton. It is not rocket science to me. And if/ when Lukaku goes, we will find him almost impossible to replace. At that point we will not be hovering above the relegation places, we will be amongst them. How do I know this? Last season when Lukaku looked out of sorts, we went 11 games without a win. That was when he was injured and out of form. Leicester City rely on Mahrez and Vardy to the same extent. However, other teams have not yet figured a way to stop those 2. As soon as they have, expect Leicester to plummet down the table.

Which bits don't you guys agree with? Explain to me how we have a much better squad? People keep telling me but I see a team that has only won 9, drawn 12 and lost 10. Scored 52 of which Lukaku and Barkley have scored 37. That leaves 15 goals from the rest of the team all season in 32 games. To me that is pretty obvious that all you have to do is stop Lukaku and Barkley. I started saying about this 2 seasons ago and people argued that we were improving the squad. I just don't see it. I see a squad with certain key players ageing and also some really bright prospects. but also of a core midfield of truly athletic hard working. but boring midfielders. I can guarantee that Harvey, Kendall and Ball all scored goals. As did Reidy, Sheedy and Stephen. Even Osman, Pienaar and Cahill did. I can guarantee that Cleverly, Barry, McCarthy and Besic will not ever score more than 5 added all together in one season even if he plays all 4 every game. Look up their historic careers. If we sign Carrick, he is exactly the same. Then you are totally reliant on Barkley and Lukaku.

I understand completely what you're saying, and it's all Bobby's fault that our season relies on two players staying fit. It's also completely his fault that we are conceding goals due to his tactics, and, as you touched on before, his reliance on possession football even if that means possession in our own half. This is what leaves us so vulnerable.

Relying on Barkley and Lukaku isn't necessarily a bad thing, as they are both young lads who haven't had any serious injuries in the last few seasons, and this season they haven't been injured so your point there is irrelevant until we lose one or both of them to injury or to another club.

However, I don't believe that having players such as Besic and McCarthy is a problem. How many did Neville or Carsley score for Moyes?

At the moment I would take practically anybody, including Moyes as I can't see a way out of this rut Martinez has got us into. But let me make it perfectly clear I DO NOT want Moyes back. Okay so the full backs and wingers may have got a few goals under Moyes but you know who didn't get many goals? The strikers. I dread to think of Rom working the flanks, and Barkley on the bench.

That's a great post Bluetommy. especially the bit about strikers not scoring goals under Moyes. However, I firmly believe that if we had had Lukaku under Moyes, Sam Allardyce, Rafa Beneathus or anyone, he would score goals. He is a goal machine. I think that's why at first under RM things looked good. We still had Moyes' solid defensive bit and the attacking capability of Lukaku. I have never been one to want Moyes back. Contrary to what others said, I always supported him as a past manager but said in football it rarely works when someone goes back. Howard Kendall is my salient point on that. But to be honest, I think it may be too late and I think/ believe the damage to our squad has been done. I have been saying it for 2.5 years now that I saw this trend. I also believe that Jags and Barry are nearing the end. Kone never even got started. The new guy Niasse? I really don't know why at 13 million you sign someone then don't give him a fair crack? I can only say I have seen no sign of a great forward there. more like another great athlete as per previous comments. His goalscoring stats are not that brilliant but time will tell. Howard is gone. Pienaar at 34 and Osman at 34 have no more to give. Gibson seems out of the picture. Hibbert has gone too. that's a minimum of 8 1st team squad players needing replacing before we kick a ball next season. Should we lose Lukaku or Barkley, then I really don't see where goals are going tocome from. And I am absolutely positive that our defence is not going to suddenly improve under this manager. A new manager would have to bring in at least 5 or 6 first team players and that's one big ask.

You're spot on there Degs, we may not always agree but then again if everyone agreed on here it would be quite boring!

I think the main thing to remember is that, assuming Martinez actually goes (if he doesn't I'd be genuinely worried about next season) then next season will be a massive period of transition, and the new manager will have a lot of players to replace. The difficulty is, how do you convince Lukaku to stay? We would need instant results, as if Lukaku doesn't leave this summer he certainly will next summer unless we make the Champion's League.

The big issue is the upheaval of the squad. Realistically we haven't really had Hibbo, Gibbo, Pienaar's relationship with Baines or the clever interplay of Osman for the last 2 seasons anyway, so they won't really be missed. On a side note, it would be interesting to see how many games those 4 have featured in this season combined.

No-one will miss them (at least not any more than we already do) . Nor will anyone miss Kone. Barry and Jags have done enough to warrant being in the squad next season and Niasse is new so will get a chance. The problem is the sheer numbers that need replacing.

This could, however, be overcome by a forward thinking new manager just buying 3 or 4 quality first team players (providing we keep everyone else) and making up the numbers by giving youngsters a place in the squad.

Good point about not having Pienaar, Ossie etc this season. but that also explains why we are where we are in the league. and my point about lack of creative midfielders! .

It's not unusual at all for just a few players to score your goals for you. That just means your attacking is proving fruitful for the players who you are trying to get you goals.

If these players leave then we need to replace them. You need to take a look at Barcelona or a Real. You take out their 3 players and you could say the same.

Your philosophy is similar to Martinez in that our attacking play is the place to look. It's not it's defending and defending from every area.

Sinisa Mihajlovic has just been sacked by AC Milan which makes him available.

Despite being sacked, this guy is a good manager who takes no crap from anyone. Gets his teams well organised, whilst playing good football.

Fantastic at Sampdoria and for me, he did well at a Milan side with very little quality. the board has unrealistic expectations for a side who have dropped enormously in the last 5 years.

I'd take him.

as much as I would love Martinez to be sacked nothing is going to happen one way or the other until the end of the season.

Looking at our remaining fixtures and based on our current form its hard to see were the next win is coming from.

although there are 3 clubs worse then us we are not safe from relegation, with that in mind we need to get behind the team for the remainder of the season no matter what.

the other issues can then be dealt with in the summer.
