I think its the injury, I don't think he's recovered and don't think he ever will, shame.

I think its the injury, he hasn't recovered and don't think he ever will, shame, could of been good for us.

I argued at the time that selling Anichebe for 4 millionwho was 23. then replacing him with Kone for 6 million was crazy business. Remember Swan? Kone is past his sell by date and added to which apparently has malaria, is a Muslim. so fasts during Ramadam. I never saw the logic then and I still don't see it. I also argued about the poor choice of signings of McGeady and Alcaraz. I was told that Alcaraz was a free and so was an excellent signing and McGeady was quality. Yes. I will say no more except to say I also think Lennon would be a poor signing. I agree that he has had 2 reasonable games for us and scored a couple of goals, but his oveall contribution in past seasons has been very poor. Only time will tell.

Well I don't know who told you that but whoever it was they hadnt taken their medicine. Both kone and anichebe are poor and i'd rather have neither, 2 reasonable games? Good yesterday, boss against southampton, boss against newcastle, boss against qpr, good cameo v liverpool, comtributions in last seasons are reasons to not like him now? Makes sense, been a good signing and I want us to go for him and won't be bothered if we lose mirallas.

It was a stupid purchase in the first place in my opinion. Kone had a decent season for Wigan, think he scored about 13 but I could be wrong, the year they got relegated. He didn't impress at all in his first few performances and then illness and injury stifled his progress. I'm trying to be fair and give him the benefit of the doubt but the only plus point I can think of is he holds the ball up well. And that's about it. Degsy, I always thought it was a confidence thing with Victor, some games he showed he could mix it then he would go missing for months. The crowd was always on his back and, as a young player, I thought he tried too hard to impress. But look at what he has done, away from the club that brought him through, without the pressure of our crowd on his shoulders. Absolutely nothing. He has spent a lot of time injured, probably scored a few but not in double figures. They are both as bad as each other just Victor has got longer career ahead of him due to his age.
Regarding Lennon, I think it's a no brainer that we buy him for the price that has been set, 6m I believe. He's had a few decent games, has a bit of pace, makes intelligent runs and seems happy enough to be involved. His last couple of seasons at spurs have seen him spend a bit of time in the treatment room as well as a loss of form. Don't forget that spurs have changed manager a few times over last few seasons so that doesn't help if you are only on the fringes of the team. I think we should judge him on what he has done for us rather than what he never did at spurs. And if he keeps AM out of the team then all is good!

Swan mate, you told me that Kone was far superior to Anichebe and would score loads of goals for us. You did say Anichebe was crap.but you did not say Kone was. You also told me that Alcaraz was a brilliant free signing. I am not having a personal dig, but merely pointing out past disagreements. I can't be bothered getting into yet another slanging match so will leave it at that. Remember what I say about Lennon though. He is Spurs 3rd choice for a reason. He is behind Townsend who I know you do not rate.

12 Apr 2015 16:54:58
Yes but I didn't expect kone to get an injury for 19 months! i'm not psychic like you degsy. I did think alcaraz was a decent free signing, he's good on the ball but his constant injuries haven't helped. I did think kone was better than anichebe, I still do, I also remember saying when we signed him I wanted someone else but he's better than we had (which is true, I wouldn't swap lukaku, kone naismith for anichebe, vellios and jelavic would you?). The spurs thing is irrelavent, their manager thinks danny rose is the best left back in england (do you agree?), what he thinks doesn't bother me, i'm judging lennon on what he's done for us which has been good.

Hey Swan, a decent debate between us. I agree with some of your points. My only jibe about Kone if you remember was I said at the time Anichebe was 23 and Kone was (I think) 29. Purely from a business point of view.neither is a million times better than the other so why did we pay 6 mill for Kone yet only got 4 mill for Anichebe. Re Lennon, I watched him for a number of seasons and the only manager who could seem to get him to cross the ball well was Hawwy Wednap. To me (and its only my opinion) he is similar to McGeady in the fact he can go past players easy enough, only to put a cross in row Z of the upper bullens. ie he flatters to deceive. But I will reserve my final judgement and see how he gets on.coz I think we will probably sign him. and yes so far he has been good for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you make some good points degs...but comparing lennon to mcgeady is not one of them mate..

12 Apr 2015 17:53:49
We got 6m for anichebe, mcgeady doesn't work half as hard as lennon nor have the pace of him or intelligent movement lennon has. that's not a fair comparison mate

{Ed025's Note - im with you swan..

12 Apr 2015 18:27:38
I agree Swan. Especially on the work rate. He closes down defenders very well. And he has already scored a couple for us although he usually averages only 3 a season. I would say Lennon is in good form. Whether he sustains it, we will see. And yes Ed, he has done more in about 4 games than McGeady did in 20. McGeady is actually better than his performances suggest.he is totally devoid of confidence now. I am sure McGeady is now 4th or 5th choice now. Mirallas, Osman, Lennon and even others playing out of position eg Naismith, Pienaar are probably ahead of him. Thank God. But hopefuly he will regain some form and be useful.although I doubt it.

Everton are set to appeal to the premier league so that Arouna Kone receives a second yellow card that will make him unavailable for the next game.

Why the hell didn't McCarthy shoot that time he went through absolutely bamboozled by that one.

Perhaps he was too stunned by the rare unexpected open chance at a goal. Perhaps the pass quota for that opportunity had not been met.

Martinez feels like it is tinker time. Last season Barry sat in front of the back four and against Southampton and Swansea Martinez finally saw the light and sat Barry there again. The result against Swansea saw Barry MoM. That is his position the advantage is it does release McArthy to use his engine. Southampton and Swansea we finally started passing the ball forwards and look what happened. let's see if Martinez at last recognises that he got it wrong this season and if he had changed things the way he has in the last two games we would be much higher in the league. BK won't get rid so let's fingers crossed hope the fraud rewards that loyalty with loosening his stubborness.

Nearly everyone except me rave about him. I think he is wonderful defensively and is a real athlete. but terrible going forwards and his decision making going forwards is poor. He averages 1 goal per season. Not enough for a midfielder.

McCarthy plays like a headless chicken, chasing lost causes and generally wasting energy and effort.
He needs to be more controlled in his approach and know when and how to effectively break from midfield.
He is not alone in understanding his role within the team set up and shape and that responsibility lies squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - i think he does a great job in the main fancy, if others gave the same effort he does i would be very happy mate..

12 Apr 2015 14:31:03
The thing is, he's had a total of 4 games where he has played further forward since joining and has 2 goals. He links up well and his passing is very good, he can carry the ball, i'd like to see it more often.

{Ed025's Note - me too swan..

To be fair, when we signed Kone he had just scored 11 league goals for Wigan and had looked pretty good in a poor side.

Victor on the other hand has scored 10 league goals altogether in the last 3 years.

The problem was the injury he got and the positive out of it was Naismith got his chance whcih he took with both hands.

Another decent defensive performance. Nice adjustment to the ball and goal by Lennon. He had a few giveaways but I like how he carries the ball forward down the center. We should pay the 6 and keep his pace. Nice to see Pienaar back on the pitch. I think he showed some pace on the left.

Do certain players have orders not to shoot? McCarthy had a great run up the middle late.

Still, a point away is a point away.

Hope we can involve Garbutt, Browning, and others the next v6 weeks.

Let's focus on next year and stay positive. Great PL run the rest of the year and have a proper preseason.

There only negative today.had to a Chevrolet -ManU- Wayne Rooney advert at halftime.
