We now have a striker, being linked with Walcott and Nzonzie, and we need a LB, now in a Carlsberg world we would get them all in, but it isn't, who do we think are priority, personally I'd leave Nzonzie as we are covered, but the rest can add to the team.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

10 Jan 2018 22:08:58
Would take Nzonzi if we could off load Schneiderlin, would take Walcott but desperately need a proven left back.

Agree2 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 09:19:52
Yeah I would take all of them, but I cannot see anyone coming in for schids, so can't see us getting Nzonzi, I think Walcott can be used as a striker as well as on the wings, but a left back is priority, maybe now we have got Barkley off the books may make a difference and maybe a few others being moved on.

If you take Mr Moshri's interview and comments at face value, I would say that midfield forward is done and dusted for this Window. Now whether we have identified or indeed Sam and his staff deem it necessary for further improvements particularly in defence (myself personally would like a left sided DM) , who knows, we certainly don't.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 14:05:17
Kieran Tierney and Ben Mee or Alfie Mawson would make this a great window for me, providing we play Sig at 10 and two proper wingers (Bolasie and Lookman or Vlasic) .

I’d swerve Walcott - too many injuries and best years we’ll behind him, particularly for the £30m being mentioned.

I had a feeling Lukaku wouldn't be best pleased by what FM said, and now apparently he's taking legal advice It's a shame FM didn't keep it to himself, but now it's to be hoped he can back up what he said or it could cause trouble. Bit miffed personally that Rom says he only left because he didn't believe we were ambitious enough for him when it's pretty obvious he went chasing the $$$.

Well a London punter stuck 6 or 8 grand on Walcott signing for Everton last week, he must have some knowledge we do not know about.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jan 2018 22:09:44
Maybe the punter was called Theo?

10 Jan 2018 19:35:20
Left back is priority for me. Not back up either because Baines has not been Baines since Season after Peanut left. The guy i think could make it seemless is Chilwell of Leicester. Not only looks like Baines, runs like him, moves forward like him, crosses well but is possibly a better defender than Baines ever was?! No brainer, big fee maybe but we need a ready made laeft back not potebtial.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

10 Jan 2018 19:57:03
At last someone who agrees with me that Baines isn't as good as he used to be. Don't misunderstand I've loved the guy since day one and there's been little better than seeing him bombing down the wing and whipping an inch perfect cross into the box, never mind his penalty record, but those days are few and far between. Age catches up to us all eventually.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jan 2018 20:13:47
Its a fact, he really struggles in some games, even his crossing has been substandard of late. I began worrying when he was easily bullied out of taking Peno's by Lukaku and Mirallas, Arteta used to at Free Kicks too but at least he was good then. My only worry is we get a potential player as back up instead of a 1st team regular left back. Garbutt was potential but failed miserably on loan and his confidence is rock bottom, lack of experience too for over 23!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jan 2018 21:13:15
Let’s not forget a lot were saying get rid of Jags and he did fine in the cup game, it could be Baines has been playing through the pain barrier and it caught up with him, I would not write Baines off just yet, but we need to get long term replacement when that time arrives.

Agree6 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 11:50:12
The difficulty Baines has had in reaching all his previous performances is that we’ve never replaced Pienaar. Every player that has been given the left wing role has been right footed and always turned inwards and changed the direction of the attack across the pitch leaving Baines to halt his run and when it does come back to him it’s delayef and the impetus of his run is lost. Same thing happened when he played for England how many times was he stood out on the wing watching the game going down the right as soon as it crossed the halfway line.
If we play a left sided winger that Baines can link up with then you will see the best of him.
Big C p.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 15:59:38
Big C You are 100% right. We played a system which involved Pienaar and Baines one side and Osman and Coleman the other. Both wingers and full backs had the ability to bomb forwards. Both wingers and full backs had the ability to shoot and score from distance. Both "wingers" had the ability to hold the ball up and play a one two with the full back overlapping. It gave us so many options going forwards and it gave us goals. It allowed us to play forwards balls out of defence quickly and allowed us to break out in numbers rather than hoofing it to Calvert-Lewin and hoping he could hold it up. Many people were critical of Pienaar and Osman and maybe with some justification as they both slowed up and were not as effective in their later years. but we still have replaced neither. And now we need to replace Coleman and Baines. very soon. Bolasie is probably our best but his goal and assist return is woeful in comparisson to the others.

10 Jan 2018 19:15:45
Ed 25 do you think we will get Walcott and if so would you be happy with him, the only problem I see is wenger is a hard man to let players leave but with the World Cup coming up he must try force a move as he is not getting game time at Arsenal personally I would love us to sign him and he is still only 28.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - hes a bit of an enigma for me stef, one game he can be great and the next terrible but i would like him mate..

Would take a chance think we could resurrect his career give him a fresh start could be a good partner for Tosun.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 09:24:12
We lack pace and that's why we a 're pinned back game on game, we cannot break quick enough to worry other defences, him on one side, bolasie in the other CT in the middle with either sigs or Rooney, now that's a worry for any defence, get him in.

10 Jan 2018 15:16:09
Ffs why are we not not jus getting nzonzi or Walcott done sharpish and then moving onto a LB - would Bertrand come to Everton seems like a no brainer to make an approach? If not Sessegnon or tierney good alternatives and prospects would get them for 20mil - we would be a much better balanced side with any of the above - wat u think Ed?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - i dont think its as easy as you do johno, sessengnon and tierey are very young and ther are still issues with their age, i like bertrand but we would have to pay a massive fee for him mate..

10 Jan 2018 15:39:19
True - we need a LB though and a good one who can replicate Coleman’s dalliances down the right but on the other flank - I think tierney or Sessegnon are young, raw talent that are likely to only get better and worth the likely fee - Bertrand would be expensive but would slit right in, had PL experience and is in the magic age bracket Big Sam likes - wat r the other options stick with cuco or go for some unknown? Come on Steve Walsh earn your money and find us some rough diamonds!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would like to see us try jonjoe on the left johno, other right sided players have played there and i dont think its that big a deal mate..

10 Jan 2018 15:56:38
To me Jonjoe is seamus understudy and should learn that position and grow into it as he gets experience/ more games solid option - maybe until end of season but can’t see him putting many left footed crosses in for tosun, full backs are the new wingers these days and although Jonjoe been decent Ina difficult situation he no top 6 LB.

My left back preference would be Kagawa or whatever his name is from psg. Young international. Pay have said he's one who can go to balance the books. Very good player in my opinion.

Oh the life of being an Evertonian, they say Everton is like a drug, never dabbled with it but who needs to when nothing on earth can put you on a high then low like Everton, even Saint Peter would be hard pushed to keep his patience with our club at times.

Feel for the younger generation, I've had my mix of highs, but the poor younger lot have had to put up with the Wimbledon and Coventry great escape, the Walker, Smith, Martinez, Koeman brigade, watched as we bought player after player last Summer, at last a new beginning, a venture through Europe, but as night always follows Day, we have the rug pulled from underneath us.

Fear not though, our time will come once again, when it does, the younger fan base we have, will not know what has hit them.

It may not come in my lifetime, but I've had my fix, we owe it to those poor buggers who have only seen the darker Days, stay patient fellow Blues, every dog has its Day.

That’s a great post Baz. I’m pretty sure we will see success again mate although I’m not sure how young you are. But I saw the eighties

In fact I’ve got an eighties fancy dress party soon so I’m wearing my Hafnia 84 FA cup final replica shirt. But if it’s a bit tight it’ll be under my Adam Ant costume.

{Ed025's Note - just be sure not to wear your gary glitter one ace.. :)

I went my first game in I think the 74-75 season when we drew 0-0 to the eventual champions Derby County, was a fan before then from my earliest recollection 69, Gordon Lee got a lot of stick but we played some decent football, just lacked a quality goalkeeper, although trophyless in the seventies had some decent players, Latchford, King, Dobson, McKenzie and one of the finest wingers in Dave Thomas along with others, here’s a freebie thrown in, the 77 second replay league cup final at Old Trafford, two Everton players came out with the same number on their back, think it was number 2 with Neil Robinson and Darrocott wearing the number 2.

Again mixed bag in the eighties I was lucky my parents helped out with contributing towards some of the home and away games due to unbelievable unemployment in the region.

Saw the glory Days, the cup finals so I have been very lucky along with others, even saw 2 Derby wins in a row away to our neighbours, both times stood on the kop with a few thousand other Evertonians, Turned up at West Brom with a carful and few feet of snow, only to be told the match has been called of late seventies/ early eighties, was half way up a tree in Stanly Park for the Wimbledon final game due to no ticket, I have had many a great time, that’s why I really hope our next generation of fans get to see Everton succeed.

Not sure how many have read the book scally, Sums up how it was back then, we were just normal football fans 6 of us hardly missing a match, who went for the love of Everton, unlike some of our fans who went for other reasons.

We went Villa Park in the car, last away game in 82, we had to make our way back to the car with no escort, soon got spotted and chased, we managed to get to a petrol station and hold them off til the police arrived, the last lad got hit in the jaw with a brick, it mentions a bit about a casualty in the booki, itwas his first and last game he travelled with us so unsure if he was part of the mentioned mob, thankfully we went many other games as fans and never got bothered again, thankfully now on top of crowd safety.

{Ed025's Note - its been really good joe..

10 Jan 2018 19:40:56
Not sure if it was Ed25 who was next to me and fell off the branch and in a heap on the grass in Stanley Park for the Wimbledon game, hence to say no pity from the fans below who raced for the vacant branch view, like a rat up a drain pipe.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think it was baz but i cant remember much that day mate as i was drinking the city dry..

10 Jan 2018 19:54:18
Gotta love Ed25 one of us and gives a good honest response, knows how we feel with sometimes letting our feelings and anguish getting the better of us.

Ed02 gives some straight talking feedback, I tend to call them good cop bad cop, all in jest of course.

Coleman is best full back in premier league when fully fit. Could he or Kenny switch to LB?

{Ed025's Note - its been done before mac so why not?..

10 Jan 2018 10:53:19
Better option than Van Aanholt that’s for sure.

{Ed025's Note - deffo mac..

10 Jan 2018 11:43:41
I think Kenny would be best bet for LB before Coleman. I still think Cuco is gaining confidence little by little. Would still like to see an attacking full back like Tierney or Bertrand.
