Liverpool: 4 Borussia Dortmund: 0
Paderborn: 3 Everton: 1

. about days it all really doesn't it, again I know it's only pre-season & I guess the 1st game away to Leicester will tell us more, but we really should of integrated our strongest team (Lukaku included) together a lot earlier so that they had played at least 2 pre-season games by now. Has to go down as 1 of the shoddiest & worst planned pre-season I can ever remember. My mate has just informed me that Bobby had a great 1st season at Wigan, then an awful second season after a.(wait for it). shoddy & rubbish pre-season. just hope history isn't going to repeat itself all over again!

{Ed025's Note - bloody hell guys!...we are supposed to be excited about the new season starting, is there any need for all the doom and gloom?, we are basically the same side that almost snatched 4th!...its not been great i admit, but lets put a bit of perspective on it..

And the last time we failed to win any of our pre season games we won the league. We are not fitness gurus so we can't really understand why Bobby is holding Lukaku and Kevin back, but I'm sure he has a much better idea than we do.

I also don't care what kind of pre season liverpool have had. And I'm thinking that leicester might get a little surprise when they play us on Saturday as we will be a different outfit to the one they played a few weeks ago.

So stop panicking everyone and let's get behind the team.

Not going to agree with how doom and gloom you are, but this is by far the shoddiest, worst planned and most pointless pre-season I've ever seen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool basically played Dortmund's reserve team, whilst the sh**e fielded their strongest team, so they were only ever expected to win. When we played paderborn we were missing probably 4 of our most influential players in Coleman, McCarthy, Mirallas and Lukaku. There's no comparison between the 2 results really. I'm actually shocked that Liverpool didn't win by a greater margin. Mid-table finish for them this season I think.

Pre season, has been an absolute shambles, organisation, results, and most alarming, performances.Every transfer has turned into a soap opera, and now we are told our two most important attacking players may not be fit to start, I really begin to think last season may have been a false dawn.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its not been ideal JCW i agree, but lets not go over the top mate..

After lukaku and barry, the new deals for coleman, barkley, stones, etc etc my confidence for the new season was sky high. Now I've watched us struggle against tranmere, struggle against a newly promoted german side, and pretty much get destroyed by celta vigo who finished 9th in la liga last season, my confidence has. Gone! i'm worried, now we here lukaku and mirrallas won't be ready for the start of the season (why are they not ready by the way?) we surley can't start the season with tony hibbert at right back? As much as we like the guy you have to admit he is usless! Watched him against celta vigo and nolito destroyed him, we all thought this nolito guy was megga, then stones marked him out the game for the second half.

Leon osman tries his best but if anybody else seen him kill the ball against celta vigo then fall over onto his back they will agree he is not the answer.

I love roberto but when he comes out with "i was pleased with the performance" this pre season I worry he is sugar coating the obvious problems we have.

We look so unfit its annoying. WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING PRE SEASON?

Anybody else agree or am I just going to far?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i must admit i share some of your concerns terry.

Agree with all of it, we look so far behind every1 else its a joke. But its not our startin 11 that worry me its the squad players for the cups an injurys cover aren't up2 or ready for our push

What's the verdict on Coleman Ed, is he definite to miss start of season. RB is position that really needs cover, anybody linked?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - not definite reefa but likely mate,as hamstrings are hard to predict, there does not seem to be anyone on the horizon linked at the moment..

10 Aug 2014 14:22:55
We have up to this point seemed to have done a lot of work just to have a matching team to last season well if Astu signs on loan we will.

We still need at least 3 players capable of playing in the first team
We have no real cover at right back, we have Jags, stones & Alteraz all capable of playing with Distan but none able to replace him when he's not playing and another forward for when Lakaku is injured or even like now a bit tired

Also this pre season has been a shambles traveling all over the place for games, players have spent more time traveling than playing & training as a result we don't look like a team ready for the off in a weeks time. What ever happened to playing 5 or 6 games against local lower league sides the last 2 of which you play your starting 11?

Don't tell me we travel to raise our profile cause how does getting your turned over in games ever raise your profile

If astu signs we will have one more than last year. Also with peanut. Gibbo and Obaby back that will be like 3.new signings there. And maybe. Few youngsters we have a better squad.

Last point I still think we will get 3 more players
2 loans - astu and one from barca
1 buy?

Thats what I think. What about you ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not quite sure about stronger yorkie, but agree on the signings mate..

10 Aug 2014 21:06:46
IF Astu signs then that's 1 more that's it! don't go on about injured players coming back being new signings they're not they're old signings getting fit all they will do is replace the injury's we get this season that's football that's why we need a bigger squad!
Then you say we will sign 3 more players anyway, isn't that all I said we need to do?

Looks like Henen is getting sick of the delays over his transfer to us. Been training at FF for a month and clubs still can't agree a fee. We want to pay 1.5m they want up to 3m, this is Everton all over, and yet 28m no prob for Lukaku. Henen is supposedly the new Ronaldo, either you want him or not surely. someone other team would be willing to risk that acolade for sure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 14:30:18
Its a joke mate, we were happt paying 3m for stones, just give them what they want, as you said we either want him or we dont, if we do, get on with it!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 16:52:24
Totally agree 3 million is nothing these stupid price days
If you think he's worth it pay it, if he's not worth 3 million why would we want him anyway?

Anyone else think a two yr deal for ronaldinho would be a quality signing to bring on Ross and still has a lot to offer the team

Believable0 Unbelievable0

1 year pay as you play on a fairly decent wage would be good if just to get his name on a shirt

Agree0 Disagree0

Silly really, would be more reliable asking to have Donovan or Cahill on loan until their season starts. Would get a lot out of Donovan especially as he's retiring, it would be his last huraaah!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Quinny. Personally I can't see any drawbacks to a deal such as that, just as long as his wages weren't too high. Having a personality like him in the dressing room would be awe inspiring for the young lads, and as you mentioned, a lot of people would want his name on their shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shirt sales wouldn't get close to his wages. can't think of many Brazilians who have done much in the Prem, or Russians come to think of it. Maybe that's why they are all mostly in the Russian League. just a thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we get nothing from shirt sales anyway howie..

Well done the Kit Bag Manager, he'll be well rewarded by his Company.

Pre Season, last year we travelled to USA and played in a very highly prestigious competition against some of the top teams in Europe, if I remember rightly we put on a good show but didn't win many. We came back ready for the start of the season and racked off 3draws in games we should have won which ultimately cost us a place in the champs league because all those games where there for the taking. I remember reading an article with Roberto after our win against Chelsea saying whilst the pre season was a fantastic experience the journey and heat had played a negative part in the players achieving peak condition and took a little time to adjust to life back in the prem. he also said we would be playing nearer to home the following season. In his first press conference Van Gaal has said the same thing stating that it is crazy to bring the players over such distances and next season it won't happen.

Pre season is not about winning it's about fine tuning to get them ready for the first game of the season. The main work will be done on the training ground. Three points is all we want from the Leicester game. We then have a run of games which include Arsenal, chelsea and the RS so we will need Lukaku and Mirallas for them so why risk them?. They have just been playing in a World Cup so need rest. The players are fit, it is ridiculous to state otherwise, these are professional athletes not Sunday league players, Martinez is having a good look at the squad he has, it's great to see some of the younger players getting real playing time under him.

Roberto has said we need more players and he's delivered so far on everything he has said. Atsu looks to be finalised this week and don't be surprised to see a couple of other gems before the end of the transfer deadline. He did say most of our business will be concluded at the last minute because of the World Cup so I expect a few more foreign players not homegrown.

We all get disappointed when our team don't win every game but look at where we are, what we have. Pre season is just that, you don't get any points or win medals in pre season. Would you rather see us lift the Guinness Cup or get three points on Saturday.

The players will be ready .

Good luck lads and enjoy the season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good post that mate..

What a sensible post this is. Nice one UB this will put a lot of people's minds at rest, including mine. I was getting worried, and like us all I think we all need to take a deep breath and allow the lads to get ready for Saturday

Agree0 Disagree0

Although I agree with everything you say the thing that concerns me is that by missing pre season they are not up to match fitness and after watching every game the players just don't look anywhere near ready for the start of the premiership. I hope I am wrong but I was expecting him to at least have his starting 11 out at some point yesterday .

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice post Uzbek. Pre season will be forgotten after three points this Saturday

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dont count your chickens there tedster, they will prove to be a stern contest mate, they have a point to prove, and we may well not be at our strongest..

10 Aug 2014 11:18:29
UzbekBlue: a good post that. As you indicate, no team has ever got three points for winning a preseason game! It's all about RM looking at the players (individually, in combinations around the pitch, in different team shapes/formations, and using various tactics) and about getting the team/squad fit and prepared for the new season.
