New name linked in Dan Neil from Sunderland 23 year old midfielder
Article I read spoke of how it may be difficult to land him with Sunderland pushing for promotion so not sure if it has any legs.

It has at least two legs ST.

Just saw a link to Marcus Edwards. I remember him coming through for the Spurs 23's and he looked like a decent talent. Fair play to the lad for rescuing his career in Portugal. Can't believe he is still only 26. Feels like he has been around for ages.

Pretty much a like for like with Ndiaye from an attacking perspective. More natural pace than Nidaye and has better vision and eye for a pass but not as combative or hard working from memory. Plays predominantly off the right but comfortable on either side.

Would make for a smart signing if links are credible.

No worries at all GB.

Embolo also rumoured. I imagine 90% of links are wide of the mark but it is certainly refreshing to see us being linked with players that have pace for once. I remember us being linked to him when he was back in his Schalke days as a teenager. Been around the block and still only 27.

What has Thelwell been doing for the last six months? I know the January window is a difficult time to recruit players for a verity of reasons but surely Thelwell and his scouts (do we have any? ) must have looked at dozens of players and have a good idea if any of them are available now and are ones we can afford. I know his previous thinking must have been what does SD want and need and he has to change his thinking to Moyes's needs but some of the dozens of players on Thelwell's list must be acceptable for Moyes. Hopefully we will get in a couple of players who will improve the squad and not last minute cast-offs.
Ed0025 am I being too hard on Thelwell? It just seems that we take forever to sign players. It will take time to integrate new players into the team We need them ASAP.

{Ed025's Note - as you know Mike i have never been a big fan of Thelwell, hes made a lot of mistakes even though i admit it has been a tough job with the previous owner, imo mate we are looking for bargains at the end of the window when clubs have finalized their squads and will take any surplus stock to see us through to the end of the season, they will then have time to bring in players they really want in summer but for me thats a major gamble, i hope im wrong and they surprise us with a couple of good players in this window because we certainly need some..

22 Jan 2025 20:18:27
Yes I think that you are spot on Ed025, thanks,

{Ed025's Note - no problem Mike..

22 Jan 2025 20:36:23
One further thought on this subject Ed025. Whoever any of us asked Ed002 about signings and who was available he always had a long list of players that we had the possibility of getting. Ed002 seemed to have a network of informants that he could get information from. Now I have no idea what his job was but if Ed002 could get all of that information so can Thelwell. It may be the wrong impression but we on the other hand seem to be working with less information than Ed002 had.

{Ed025's Note - ED002 was incredibly connected Mike and dare i say it but probably more connected than Thelwell mate who seems a bit of a "yes" man to me..

I think you could be right toffeebwoy, who is really going to come to us if top teams in Italy, Spain or the prem are after the players we are, but Moyes is no fool so will be intresting as there's not much time left, like you say we could end up with what nobody else wants .

We what be loaning anyone toffebhoy unless we manage send back Broja &/ or Harrison.

January hard month to get any real quality, hopeful of a couple in but let's see.

Worry is the Spurs result and performance may have convinced them to wait till summer, with the bottom 3 being very poor 2, would be nice get someone in to excite us fans but either way confident we will stay up and big summer incoming.

After previous windows i would rather we signed nobody if they aren't going to improve the side but hopefull for 1 or 2. i'm grateful to harrison as he's done his best and had his share of good games but i think for all concerned it would be best to hand him back to leeds now. I think he is probably surplus to requirements there as well if i'm honest.

Nuamah to stay at Lyon now being widely reported. As mentioned before, not a Moyes type player as his stats this season are not good enough. He was a target for Thelwell, but after seeing his list of potential targets Moyes said a big fat No. Good for him, finally some good stewardship taking place in the recruiting department. Expect signings though, 2/ 3 expected.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

21 Jan 2025 12:42:52

Moyes said himself we have an interest it’s just wether we can agree terms, he’s probably keeping his options open until end of window, didn’t he pull out of a move on the last window? Spurs I think.

Agree1 0Disagree

21 Jan 2025 16:26:03
It was Fulham. I don't mind at all, prefer Moyes has a look at some other options, ideally cheaper. I was really worried before, but after that performance on Sunday, i feel he will get way more out the current squad than they showed before.

21 Jan 2025 16:51:45
They have showed that they are capable now ST, which leaves them with no excuses anymore mate. Hopefully we get pick up a result at Brighton and then a huge game to put some further day light between us and Leicester. If we can go into the Derby with unbeaten with 2 wins on the board, we can take a little bit of the pressure off.

Agree0 0Disagree

21 Jan 2025 17:14:54
I agree potato, when you think of how many are out of contract for us in the summer, we really need someone with a great record on recruitment running the show. Moyes ticks that box.

No more £25m Beto's.

This why I think Moyes will be promoted to the board once we are safely transferred to BMD and a successor is identified to build on DM's initial building.

Agree0 0Disagree

22 Jan 2025 16:50:44
Definitely, ST. I think that would have been one of DM's stipulations in taking the job, final say on incomings and outgoings. We can only hope there are no more Betos mate, although I suppose every transfer is a gamble. Knowing Moyes has more of a say in what happens gives me a bit more confidence that we will get players who are suited for our club.

What is going to happen with DCL between now and the end of season. Do you think he has made his mind up and wants a new club and fresh start? Or if he continues like yesterday will DM convince him to sign a new contract and make him feel wanted and provide him with chances and more support than Dyche did. Surely the fact we are moving to new stadium next season and a new Manager changes things for DCL.

It will be cheaper to give him a decent contract than buying a replacement too. I know it’s only one game but I do believe there is a player there with the right management and play to his strengths. He proved under Carlo and Big Dunc once motivated and provide chances he’s a different player. Rumours were Dyche and him didn’t get along.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

20 Jan 2025 15:03:14
honest opinion is a think he will move on

his wage demands offered whilst shelving a new deal were still very high for Everton's current predicament

& personally think him (& his fiancé) will want a move and fresh start.

one thing DM will do, is get an arm round him and get him to at least give a good account of himself.

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 16:05:47
I'm not sure what's going to happen with him, before sundays game I'd of said he was definitely off, but when he scored and went to the crowd holding the badge I think with Moyes back he may stay, but saying that, if Newcastle do come in for him i think he'd jump ship, but if he keeps scoring, fingers and toes crossed he does, then his price will go up, so it should be a win win if we can find a replacement to put the ball in the back of the net.

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 16:16:47
I think he will leave. Personally I am happy with that, although its a shame we couldn't get a fee for him for PSR purposes. When he is on it, he is a handful, but its few and far between.

I can't wait to sign a new, fresh, hungry striker that we can all get excited about. For me DCL is someone for the past.

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 16:39:24
We only have two more games left for him to score for his price to go up and then he leaves on a free.

Can't really see him leaving late in the window, unless of course Moyes has identified a replacement. More likely that we will take the hit on a fee and keep him for the rest of the season.

Criminal that we were offered around 60m for him. Would have bitten somebodies hand off for that at the time and that was when he was actually considered to be in form.

Agree1 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 17:19:52
I like DCL when he is on fire, the problem is that he has a large number of games doing very little. The major issue is that his first touch is not good, often the ball just gets away from him, we can only hope that Moyes and his coaching staff can improve that aspect of his game. His goal against Spurs showed how good he can be, he just needs to have more of those magical moves. I think he will stay.

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 17:30:19
Would make no sense to sell him now. Broja out, Chermiti out, and Beto not good enough and probably on his way.
Hopefully the change made in our playing style will play to his strengths and we get to see more goals. If that happens then he may be offered a new contract with a pay rise.

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 17:31:05
DCL strikes me as one of those players who looked, no scrap that, who needs to feel wanted! You also need to play to his strengths hoofing the ball again and again hoping he manages to pull off a miracle or that he earns a free kick for the free kick specials
What I saw against Spurs was a player supported by the others around him and not isolated like the rest of the season
I would like him to sign a new contract if he plays more like that week in week out but I do think we need better depth in attack, still think DCL blows hot and cold, he’s one who scores goals in patches so needs to be pushed and we need an alternative
I think Moyes will be in his ear to get the best out of him and to play in that beautiful new stadium is a draw but needs to be in the Prem as well and needs to be competing higher up not battling relegation
I think he needs to be realistic in his contract demands, as I don’t think he warrants a huge pay hike!

Agree1 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 18:40:48
This needs to be viewed from the players point of view. He can talk to foreign clubs now but he is on a high wage and this is his final big contract, either with us or elsewhere. Unfortunately he's been in a team ran by an absolute bell end and his numbers have been atrocious so that's going to chip off a lot of salary demands from new clubs. Who'd pay over £100k a week for a player with his numbers? So that potentially brings us back into the fold as a better option. Can't see us improving his current deal but we can't lower it either. He may seek a new league of course and do the Saudi thing? I don't think that's where he will end up. Unless someone goes bonkers and offers £15m + he isn't going anywhere this month. Best thing for him and us is to get his groove back and have 4 months of relighting his fire and then he has all the power again in the summer. He then has 3 months to negotiate the best deal. I personally hope he embraces DM and enjoys his final months and unless his dream is offered (I have no idea if he dreamt of Arsenal or Man U) he can play himself back into us being a backup and sign a new contract. Players who do this contract run down do it to get the big sign on and wage increase but his issue is he's been crap and nobody is going to give him that deal, at the moment. Head down and try to get to 10 goals by season end would help his cause. Win win.

Agree1 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 18:50:20
Personally I think DCL will stay unless he is offered decent money from a European club in a big city. I read he wants 120-150k. I can't see any prem team offering him that.

The main reason I think he will stay is that no better team will be in for him. I hope we can get him scoring again and his goal was great but he also missed a lot of chances on Sunday that could have cost us.

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 19:47:06
I am not saying you are guilty of it ST but some certainly are, where by they judge DCL by one set of standards and Beto another. Surely the same logic you have stated above (which is accurate btw) should also apply to Beto e. g. not just hoofing balls up to him, getting others in and around him to support. Getting the ball into him near goal, as opposed to on the halfway line.

Both have terrible first touches but Beto has shown that he is a better finisher in the little minutes he has been given. Beto has also shown a much better mental. He doesn't sulk, he doesn't moan about not having a song about him. The lad simply gives his all and wants to play.

I really hope he gets the opportunity to play in the final games at Goodison and gets to experience the fans applause before he leaves. I am not for one minute saying he is the answer to our striker issues, he isn't. But neither is Dom. I feel Beto gets a raw deal by a lot of people.

{Ed025's Note - its all down to personal opinion i suppose BN, myself i see a player in DCL but i dont in Beto im afraid, dont get me wrong i dont think he has been given enough minutes to be dismissed out of hand but when you see his first touch, positional play and heading ability he falls well short for me mate, leading the line is not easy and i dont think it suits Beto,s game at all, i feel he is more suited to the European style than the Premiership but i cant fault the guys effort and wish him all the best wherever his next move takes him..

Agree2 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 20:17:01
Fair take Ed. I personally don't feel either are up to being our no9. For me though, DCL has had ample opportunities to show what he can do, whereas Beto has only been given 10min cameos here and there or the odd game where he randomly starts, devoid of any rhythm or confidence.

Imo DCL's first touch, other than his chest, is worse than Beto's, especially in the penalty box and I feel Beto is the more instinctive finisher.

Think you are spot on about the European style suiting him better though.

As I say, I just hope the lad gets some moments to experience the crowd celebrating his goals before he flies back to Italy.

{Ed025's Note - im all for that mate..

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 20:37:12
If he can get proper support from the midfield like in yesterday’s game, I’d gladly pay him 120k a week as that would work out to £25m over a 4 year deal.
Now tell me who could we get for that in the transfer market.
As the wages are spread over the 4 year deal, no real PSR issues.

Agree1 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 22:01:40
Beto reminds me of Denis Stracqualursi Ed gave it his all but wasn’t the player we were crying out for.

{Ed025's Note - yeah ST i would agree with that mate, listen nobody wanted him to be good more than me...but the fact is hes just not very good imo..

Agree0 0Disagree

20 Jan 2025 22:43:54
Clubs tend to look at overall cost of a transfer now. If Dom is free, which he would be, he might be able
To command a higher wage. Still, anything over 100k would be a stretch for a player who looks a risk on paper. If he score a couple more by the end of January, that could change pretty quickly with so many clubs looking for a number 9. As some have said already, makes no sense at all for us to sell him now, safety first, and Dom is still the best option we have.

Agree0 0Disagree

21 Jan 2025 14:43:37
