Been a while since I've posted anything and usually my posts are of a lighthearted nature, not containing any "insider knowledge", or any great revelations in the way I think we should play/ purchase, or otherwise run the club. First and foremost I am an Everton fan, wanting what's best for the club. I'm old enough to have enjoyed the halcyon days of the 1980's when Liverpool as a city was the powerhouse of English football and Everton F. C. we're contributing to this on almost equal basis to what Liverpool F. C. were. Since then, painful as it is to admit we have become an ever present Premier League member, (some seasons leaving it very late to ensure our membership remained intact) without being anything other than an also ran, mid table team. Liverpool F. C. haven't won the Premier League, EVER, yet look at their trophy haul compared to ours in the intervening years. Incomparable. As I see it we as Everton fans are always in direct competition with our city rivals, whilst at the same time we are hoping for improvement in our league performance/ position every year, whilst yearning for ANY silverware. Where do I think we as fans should be right now--- well, we are a long way away from being Premier League Champions, a long way from top 4, a bit from being certain top 6. I think we are fairly placed in and around 7th-14th.
Where I think the Club has suffered is that although Farhad Moshiri brought investment, (and with it, expectations) the set up within EFC was below par. What I mean by that is the club all of a sudden had the financial clout to display purchase power within the transfer market, (television money exacerbated this problem for all Premier league teams) but whilst having extra financial clout we were totally naive in that we saw a transfer window and attacked it with the current managers desires, some of which were shocking to say the least. Prices paid for average players were ridiculous. Agents held clubs to ransom and loyalty and passion for a club/ badge all but disappeared. What I'm eluding to is this, another new manager, more raiding from prior club, (although Richarlison looks good, preseason) glaring needs not addressed ( central defence) 20 + goals a season striker we need to support this manager for at least 5/ 6 transfer windows, judge him on the tactics he employs week in week out, the support he receives from board/ Brands and when at home create an atmosphere of total support. We need to realise where we are, to achieve where we want to go. I, like all of you love this team, but we need to be patient to add to our illustrious history. Sorry I went on so long.

We should be finishing 7th or 8th, not 7th-14th. While we're still a way off it, that means our first aim is to challenge for top 6. When we've finished in the top 6 for 2-3 seasons, we can start thinking about the next step. There is a world of difference between top 6 and us right now, and it's difficult to see that gap being bridged. Any of the top 6 can realistically aim for top 4. We can't for the foreseeable future, unless as an anomaly a la Leicester. There is a long term job to do, but I'll be disappointed if we finish lower than 8th this year.

2.) 05 Aug 2018 19:25:53
The way things are going we are certainly going to end up lower than 8th. According to the Eds and other punters on this site, we have to have patience and buy into the long term plan. These are the same Eds and punters that had no patience with Koeman and Alardyce, the same Alardyce incidentally that had us finishing 8th. Just what is your philosophy, that of Martinez? 'Yes we lost 3-2 but we played good football' or winning 1-0 without conceding consistently and 'Yes but we played awful stuff'. Supported this side for the best part of 60 years, seen them all come and seen them all go. I want my Team to win and do the best they can, if that means playing god awful football but winning then yes that is what I want.

{Ed002's Note - I certainly had patience with previous managers. All I have warned is that I am less sure than most about Silva.}

3.) 05 Aug 2018 20:14:48
When you look at the teams above us last season, we’ve no right to expect to finish higher than 7th. In time, with stability and investment and a new stadium, we could break into the top 6th. Patience is key.

4.) 05 Aug 2018 23:04:21
Well said ducks fly agree with you and agree 002 not sure about Silva.

Lookman off to RB Leipzig on loan. wtf?

hugsterefc

1.) 31 Jan 2018 19:55:10
Joke of a decision lookman should be apart of the team playing tonight either from the start of to come of the bench.

2.) 31 Jan 2018 20:03:04
Cheeky 80mill bid for Mahrez?

3.) 31 Jan 2018 21:32:31
Just when you think this club can't sink any lower.

4.) 01 Feb 2018 09:10:00
Club try to resist offer. Lookman forces through move. Why does it always have to be the clubs fault?
He is potentially a very good player. He has not been even close to a regular before Walcott arrived when competing against far lesser players than Theo. So, barring injury is likely to get even less of a look in now.
I like Lookman. Think he could be a very good player. COULD. But not ready to start in PL yet and we have had enough bad apples in the squad without creating another.

12 Aug 2014 12:37:43
More a query than a rumour, just watching the match preview of the UEFA super cup tonight and presenter highlighting dangermen, one being Carlos Bacca. He then added that he was subject to interest from Everton. Remember a few whispers a while back, anymore on this? or is it just another name in the mix.

hugsterefc

{Ed025's Note - the latter i suspect hugster..

1.) Dont think he is possibilty as he cost around 20 mil which I don't think we will spend but they have enough decent dangerman in kevin gramiero

2.) 12 Aug 2014 17:01:27
He was the fall back plan if Lukaku didn't work out. We won't be able to afford him anymore.

3.) Now that we've spent big on Lukaku - and considering the lone striker system that RM plays - I don't see us spending big again on someone just to deputise. More likely imho we'll go with the forwards we have in the squad (Kone, Naismith, McAleny, Long, Hope, etc.) and perhaps bring someone (like Traore) in on a season-long loan.

ssn Hull agree fee with EFC for N. Jelavic. Any figures or more info Ed`s?

hugsterefc

{Ed025's Note - I'm hearing around £5m hugster, and maybe that would get us ince, and Mcgeady, which seems a good deal, even though I'm not a big fan of the latter..

1.) If the deal goes through. Hull will make there club transfer record of 7.5 million for Jelavic.

Porto President Pinto the Costa all but admits Vitor Pereira will not be continuing as Porto coach in 2013/14.
"I have a coach, he will be announced before June 12th. Vitor Pereira? You know his movements, it is easy to deduce whether it is him or not"

The plot thickens guys watch Pereira`s odds tumble again.

The only press conference I remember Moyes smiling was the one which he was answering questions about his new position as Man Utd manager whilst still being in charge at Everton. His utter disrespect for us then should remove his name from ANY and ALL future planning for E. F. C. His time has been and gone. No need to remind everyone of how negative he was regarding top 6 teams, knife to gunfight etc. Thanks but no thanks. As for Silva, I hope he is given at least another 2 transfer windows to bring stability. Our problems didn’t start when he arrived but when Farhad Moshiri brought wealth and with it a somewhat naive expectation of an instant ability to compete and challenge at the very highest level. I hate to admit but a lot of players use us as passage to a greater end. We have become a club in constant transition and in my opinion have in the past been too hasty in sacking/ appointing some managers, Koeman/ Alladyce. First and foremost we need to get to the end of this season, regroup and hope that we can go forward with more stability, a more measured sense of expectations and a appearance of a unified club. Just as an addition I think we’ve lost that player/ players that all teams need when things get a bit gritty they can grab everyone else by the scruff and battle through.

hugsterefc

{Ed025's Note - good post that hugster..

1.) 10 Feb 2019 14:12:11
Everton is one of many investments by Mr Moshri, it is naive to think that it is Mr Moshris money funding transfers etc! As has been pointed out many times doesn't work like that. You could give Mr Silva another 4 windows but unless he changes philosophy, we could well be in the Championship by then.

2.) 10 Feb 2019 15:14:24
I agree re moyes Hugster and the need for stability, but we are really in danger of getting sucked in to relegation place if our form continues. If Silva is not capable of steadying the sinking ship, should be be allowed to continue at the rudder? It’s not even like the teams form is indifferent, it’s really at crisis point right now and there doesn’t seem to be many signs of things changing, so I’m thinking that he has one or two games to save his job. I was all for giving him time, then giving him until the summer, but now it looks like Cardiff is a make or break for him.

As for who is next and why we are in such a mess, that’s a different story.

3.) 10 Feb 2019 15:00:37
I never eluded to his money funding transfers merely that it changed our expectations.

4.) 10 Feb 2019 21:17:07
At least we had identity under Moyes and teams knew they would have to play well, at the moment we are the laughing stock of the prem.

5.) 10 Feb 2019 21:26:55
Bet he would not buy a new pair of Kecks, if Moshi invited him to his house.

03 Feb 2018 19:39:24
S. A. Is tactically lacking, wrong starting lineup, an inability to identify and react to a negative situation, wrong formation, puzzling substitutions and from piecing snippets of various information a managerial charlatan. We’re all hurting, so much pre season promise, bit of money spent, players continuing to be played out of position/ used when they should be dropped. Players being ignored/ shunned/ disregarded. Under Martinez we were actually playing attractive, productive football, under Koeman we were a team who were beginning to gather momentum and move in the right direction, both were sacked, (and rightfully so) but we are now still in a mess but the thing is our current manager is a nothing. He was a knee jerk appointment who is as out of his depth as I can remember at this club. We need cool heads and a calm approach to our current predicament but my beloved Everton are very very poor at present and we are not safe at all from relegation. Nil satis nisi optimum. Give me strength.

Hello Ed`s and fellow blues, I`ve read all the posts and reactions to the current dismal run of form and tried to be as objective and optimistic as possible.
The Manuel/Basil Fawlty dig I had was an attempt to make light of the clubs current plight. We are all totally gutted/disappointed/disgusted/angry/embarrassed/brassed off. well you know.
What worries me more is the fact that during this current period of unacceptable performances the manager/club/chairman/board, whoever, have the audacity to sanction a jolly up to Quatar.
Now I`m not saying that they are all off pissin` it up, and I`m sure they are working very hard, (let`s hope on corners, set pieces and defensive mistakes), but it seems to me that the club as a whole are totally out of touch with their supporters. We`ve been subjected to this absolutely shocking sequence of performances and after the Mirallas penalty debacle, the utter disgrace that was Martinez` attempt to defend the action of Kevin Mirallas. I think the club as a whole needs to show a LOT more character and steel off the pitch as well as on it. DO NOT patronize me, do not spew out your inane drivel and expect me to happily accept your explanations/excuses. Everton FC right now are showing a scant disregard to their supporters and the financial sacrifice make week in/out.
They get knocked out the cup and get rewarded by going on a jolly to the sun. They should be made to go to Finch Farm and lie down in puddles in the pissin` rain for hours at a time then sandblasted from close range. This trip has angered me more than the shocking performances. Also there seems to be only one set of b_llox in the Martinez household and Bobby`s wife got the swingers.
We are perilously close to the abyss. We need something to happen, NOW. To be relega. I can`t even bring myself to. FFS Roberto Martinez surely you cannot destroy us.
I am afraid.
Hugster, EFC.

hugsterefc

{Ed025's Note - good post hugster, this trip has been arranged for a while mate, but that does not mean its a good idea, a lot of what you say is correct hugster, and i must say the club is beyond a joke when it comes to transparency..

1.) We only got knocked out the cup 10 days ago. It can only have been arranged for a while if we knew we were getting knocked out. Which doesn send a good message

{Ed025's Note - the trip was arranged a while back preki, but no definite date was set..

2.) I thought about this trip myself. I put a previous post on in which I called it a jolly. Then I reconsidered and thought. "Man City" have been on exactly the same type of trip and they have just got back. If it's ok for Man City, then surely it's ok for us? Perhaps I am too old fashioned and don't realise the sort of team bonding that goes on with these sort of trips. By the way, I missed the results today, how did Man City get on?

3.) They got beat degsy so did chelsea and swansea mate

4.) I was being sarcastic fozza. Meaning that Man City had been on a trip just like us and it therefore must be ok. how did they get on again? What are their fans moaning about? A pointless trip to a sunny climate!

5.) Fair enough degsy had a lager and scotch hangover yesterday mate never again

6.) Hope it was worth it mate.

Sly Sports Interviewer;
"Roberto, when do you see the teams current run of bad form turning around?"

Roberto:
"This is a current run where we find ourselves enjoying our football and is reeellee pleasing to bee fullee committed and see the character of the cloob shining throo."

Sly sports Int;
"Yes but you are perilously close to the drop zone and are increasingly being sucked down into a relegation dogfight that, with all due respect I don`t think either you or the players have the stomach for."

Roberto: "Yes we are meeeteeng these challenges with a smile and enjoying our football, playing with smiles on our faces as we enjoy our football and playing weeth a smile on our faeces as we enjoy our football."

Sly sports Int;" Roberto what happens if you are relegated?"

Roberto: " We weel be presented with a fantastic opportuneety to return to the preemieership as soon as wee can and we weell play our football weeth a smile on our faeces."

Sly sports Int:
"Roberto do you understand the proud history and heritage associated with this football club? What it means to this great city and what this great club means to the supporters from all over the world, do you understand the responsibility you have as steward of the club, the expectations, the desire, the passion of those fans, do you understand the fans commit for life and so journey through their lives suffering and celebrating everything this great institution succeeds at or fails with, Everyday life is affected by this Everton, We live and breathe BLUE, are you aware of ALL of this? Do you understand? Roberto?"

Roberto; "Que?"

ssn Int; "Excuse me?"

Roberto;

"Pleesee Mr. Fawlty. HHHMMMM, . Hhhmmmm, sorry about that what was your question again? Oh! em Yes. We weel be enjoying theees fantastic opportunity to bee very focused and work hard to smile weeth our faeces and play weeth ourselves"

Sly sports Int; "Roberto, you`re talking B_llox "

Roberto; "Thank you"

{Ed025's Note - i enjoyed that hugster..

1.) Hugsterefc: Good funny read that! I like RM being Manuel to BK being Basil Fawlty. I wonder which other characters in that show would equate to certain posters on this site?

2.) That raised a smile right around the workshop on an otherwise morbid day. Top post mate!

3.) Sibil Faulty at Goodison last night. The person next to her said "who is that man over there on the touch line chewing gum, screwing his face and
throwing his arms about".
Sibil says " That's Roberto, he's from Barcelona".

4.) 20 Jan 2015 20:52:35
I'd have BK as the major; terribly nice chap but living in his own little world from 30 years ago and totally out of touch with the real world.

Get all cash up front for Felli and allow Martinez to utilise the money to bring in a quality midfielder, I`m sorry Ramsey just is not of the calibre we need to be after if we are looking to improve on last year.

As fans I think this is where part of our problem lies. We think we are a attractive proposition, I don’t think we have been since late 80’s. Bitter pill but closer to the truth than we would care to admit.

I’m not sure if I agree with the policy of making the players feel wanted and putting an arm around them, in fact I think that’s part of the problem, they are employees there to do a job of work, contracted to contribute to the team in a joint effort to enhance performance, results, profile, etc, etc. It is NOT about the club pandering to the whims and demands of self acclaimed prima donnas getting paid vast sums of money for being, ( in some cases) mediocre at best. If they are not performing they need to be made aware, I remember a certain Sir Alex Ferguson and his no nonsense approach to his teams, no one can deny the respect, probably fear his teams had for him and his success and longevity speaks volumes about his career.
Not saying we need to crucify the players but they need to know who’s boss. Not too long ago we were applauding Koemans treatment of Ross and I still think he can do a job for Everton.
