Morning Ed, just read that Portugal, Russia and Turkey all have transfer windows that are still open. Can see any more going? Only ones I can picture leaving now is tosun james and maybe delph but guessing james is going to be a struggle.

cropper16

{Ed002's Note - Yes they are all open and efforts will continue to be made.}

1.) 02 Sep 2021 11:16:19
I think there will still be movement. Tosun and James will surely be priorities, clearly we’re still in a desperate situation, James wages off the books, even if we pay half, will help. Then there’s Gomes too, he may well leave, Delph, l will stay I reckon. On another note, why on earth were we after Donny VdB? We don’t need him? Unless we know James and Gomes are off?

2.) 02 Sep 2021 12:01:38
I wouldn't say desperate, Swinners, there's a lot been done to reduce the wage bill over the last 12 months. The likes of Bernard and Walcott leaving have saved a few quid.
We don't know for sure if we did bid for VDB, could just be paper talk. I've seen reports saying we made a late bid and others saying there is no substance to it. Not too sure if we can afford to let anyone else go now that we can't bring replacements in, a couple of injuries and we are stripped to the bones as it is mate.

3.) 02 Sep 2021 13:26:28
There’s a reason Man U spent big on DVDB.
Fernandes keeping you out of the team does not make you a bad player. Still not sure he’s a Benitez player.
Still hoping we can sign a free cover for full back.

4.) 02 Sep 2021 14:21:53
Don't think Tosun would pass a medical.

5.) 02 Sep 2021 15:20:05
Well he can’t pass a ball.

6.) 02 Sep 2021 16:03:07
Putting 2 and 2 together, I think the dvdb move may have been to allow gomes to go (there was rumours a move to benfica was on) . Whatever we think of gomes, I don't think we could let him go without replacing him. Allan decoure Davies would be the only midfielders we could rely on. can't count on gbamin or delph on injuries alone.

7.) 05 Sep 2021 08:52:05
Van der beek reminds me of Dave Klassen. Great in his own league but out of his depth in the Premier!

29 Jul 2021 11:34:32
Ed, seen some rumours linking us to de vrij. Some even saying we have agreed personal terms and are now discussing with the club. Seems like this has jumped out of nowhere so bit sceltical. Would love you to say there is some truth there though?

cropper16

{Ed002's Note - Stefan de Vrij (CB) Inter would be willing to let SdV leave at the right price, but they could easily price him out of a move - they need to raise funds and the player has not been willing to discuss a new contract. There is no obvious interest although there has been a discussion with Atletico Madrid who would be interested at the right price, but it is dependent on a player leaving. Inter have earmarked a replacement. Mino has been offering him around to clubs who he thinks are looking for a CB and have €40M to spend.}

1.) 29 Jul 2021 12:46:57
Thanks Ed, as ever. he's a good player so would obviously love him. Seen a few articles today saying how we are desperate to sign a cb and that its actually our weak position. Not sure I follow that thinking with Godfrey keane mina and holgate plus kids underneath. I know you have mentioned mina may be up for sale so could understand the need to replace him, just don't see how we are 'desperate'.

{Ed002's Note - He is indeed a good player.}

2.) 31 Jul 2021 00:27:03
Should get Zouma instead.

21 Jan 2020 11:46:29
Ed, do we have any interest in either or piatek or milik? Seen a few rumours around but can't see it myself. Both are good players on their day but would think we would only open the chequebook that wide for a cm this window.

cropper16

{Ed002's Note - I am afraid that someone has been teasing you although Ronald Koeman had Milik watched at one time.}

1.) 21 Jan 2020 13:17:35
Yep just what I expected. Cheers!

22 Jul 2019 11:02:35
Hi Ed,

Is there any chance of a quick update on Incomings/ outgoings if you have time? If not much has changed since your last update then no worries.

cropper16

{Ed002's Note - I don't think anything has really changed - Lookman will get the move away he wants. Everton have maybe missed the bus with Malcom as Barcelona have increased his asking price by €20M - so if Everton are keen it needs sorting out now. Everton made a complete hash of a discussion about Morgan Sanson.}

1.) 22 Jul 2019 13:18:18
Thanks ed. Shame about Sanson, I know you rate him and he's always looked a good player when I have seen him. Is that dead in the water or do you think it could be recovered?

{Ed002's Note - Sure but Everton have done themselves no favours at all.}

2.) 22 Jul 2019 15:42:16
shame they didn't mess up the deal for the Morgan we've got.

3.) 22 Jul 2019 15:40:07
Ed002, what on earth is going on re Sanson, and others over the years, the common thread for years has been the inability to get targets over the line, penny pinching since the Moores era and reports like yours that Everton do themselves no favours can i ask what F**K up has happened now, we even had a director giving Nigel Martyn directions to Leeds at one time, i give in.

{Ed002's Note - There are others interested in him as well, and in England there has also been a meeting with Wolves. If Everton want to resolve issues like this then they need to behave professionally. It is not just Everton who are struggling with respect to behavior, a number of English sides are being tainted as amateurs - and the oft cited arrogance that comes with having money.}

4.) 22 Jul 2019 15:45:14
ED002 i didn't mean in previous post the multitude of wild connections in the transfer window, that we get linked to, but connections you sort of hint to genuine.

5.) 22 Jul 2019 21:54:24
If Barcelona have increased their price by 20mill I don’t think they will have any takers at 50ish mill. With that it mind I definitely wouldn’t say we’ve missed the boat Ed, but more a case of if it happens it will be later on at a price that suits us.

6.) 23 Jul 2019 09:30:12
I was thinking the same thing Sir_Loin. It will be a test of nerve I think. And to be fair to Brands, he has that in spades. I wouldn’t be surprised if we did something in the last week if there are no takers before.

7.) 23 Jul 2019 13:41:36
Ed002, whilst we're obviously an English club with money, we're led to believe that Brands does the deals and his a master of his craft. He's Dutch. Is he as good as people make out or not? I wouldn't expect 'English Arrogance' from him.

{Ed002's Note - Read it again. And don't put things in quotation marks that are not quotes.}

8.) 23 Jul 2019 15:40:22
No offence ed, you're knowledge is second to none, but you called him an a idiot when you already said on this thread that English sides are arrogant due to money, when all bullens asked was does that in your opinion whether you belueve that your statement corresponds to marcel brands and his vision and history in the transfer markets. No hate btw, i just think you misunderstood the comment above.

{Ed002's Note - Try reading the posts rather than embarrassing yourself as well.}

9.) 23 Jul 2019 18:01:07
How about admit when you're wrong.

{Ed001's Note - you really should take your own advice.}

Picture going around of a young gylfi standing next to the Dixie Dean statue in an Everton top . My gut tells me it's false but would love it to be true. Anyone else seen it?

cropper16

1.) 17 Aug 2017 05:06:34
it is true.

2.) 17 Aug 2017 06:06:19
I posted it to sightings.

3.) 17 Aug 2017 08:29:19
He even went on a tour with the youth team. Shame we didn't sign him up then.

4.) 17 Aug 2017 08:29:53
yea it's his brother who put it up. said he spent a week training with us when he was 12 and was a ballot at gpoodison.

5.) 17 Aug 2017 11:52:26
and a ball boy as well :) :)

6.) 17 Aug 2017 18:13:36
I for one understood the joke Dixie :-)

7.) 17 Aug 2017 18:24:55
Gpoodison must be what they used to call the queue for the toilets :)

Just read that alli was one of the first to show up for pre-season. I'm 99% convinced that he will continue to be a failure, but the 1% left hopes he gives us another player who liked to be involved in goals (scoring and assisting) . If he stays during the window, I'll give him my support and hope that he manages to find one of the older versions of himself.

cropper16

1.) 06 Jul 2023 12:36:13
Only hope is that his most recent failure in Turkey left him reflecting on what he’s throwing away. You cannot lose the talent he had and he still has age on his side. If he is willing to focus on football, get his head down and work, he’d be a huge asset. More likely, he’ll head to Saudi.

2.) 06 Jul 2023 12:49:00
He probably forgot to alter his watch for summer time.

3.) 06 Jul 2023 13:21:35
Quicker he leaves the better, can’t see him ever returning to the quality player he was at Spurs, we need better hope he goes.

4.) 06 Jul 2023 14:07:13
Wow! A pessimistic comment from GB glad I'm sitting down ? was funny seeing articles about dele dying his hair blue in a bid to rebuild his career, forget the barber, if he's serious about being the footballer he can be he should have been working with a strength and conditioning coach weeks ago.

5.) 06 Jul 2023 14:14:43
And Gomes and Gbamin as well just don’t need these sort of players get rid.

6.) 06 Jul 2023 14:26:45
And Maupay of course.

7.) 06 Jul 2023 16:01:47
Alli, Gomes, Gbamin and Maupay.
Wonder what Dyche is thinking about these four right now?

8.) 06 Jul 2023 16:37:51
Exactly no problem! Its a career, dedication and hard work to maintain/ enhance your gifts/ abilities for what! 20 years and set up for life. Rest of us, up to our necks in sh### and bullets for 40 odd years for a pittance. They just don't get it.

9.) 06 Jul 2023 16:44:07
He’s thinking he hopes the Saudis will get involved. Dele could be the type of player they’d go for, a name.

10.) 06 Jul 2023 17:39:01
Hope we can move all of them this window.

11.) 06 Jul 2023 19:40:05
If dyche can do the same thing he has done to mcneil, then let's not be too hasty here. We could have alli, gomes, and gbamin playing like superstars week in week out. Just my opinion, folks, but I've seen it with my own two eyes. Don't discount what dyche can instil in some players.

12.) 06 Jul 2023 21:50:19
Most likely come straight from the nightclub.

27 Sep 2022 12:46:18
Have to say, I'm impressed with what thelwell appears to be doing. Got rid of lot of dead wood. Brought in some good young players as well as some more experienced to help bring authority to the team. Managed to bring back gueye, which I think will turn out to be a really good signing for us. I do wish we brought in another attacker but by all accounts we tried hard up to the deadline. My main hope for next window is that he is a bit more prepared and gets more deals done early. However I'll forgive him that given how important it was to get the richy deal done and the fact it was his first window. I'm not completely sold by Frank yet but he says the right things and is improving us, especially at the back. With dcl nearing return, maupey getting his first and gueyes presence hopefully getting up the others I would expect us to find the goals we need.

Overall I'm quietly hopefull for this season. I don't expect us to go for Europe or anything, but I think we'll do far better than people are thinking.

cropper16

1.) 27 Sep 2022 15:07:00
Yep be happy to finish mid table this season.

2.) 27 Sep 2022 15:50:30
Agree Thelwell and co have done darn good so far

Got rid of
Gbamin
Gomes
Allan

Allowed others to go
Sig
JJ kenny
Tosun

Good money for Richie

Bought in:
Coady
Tarks
Onana
Gueye
Garner
Maupay

Next part of the mission for me is get rid of a few more next summer.

Mina
Keane
Rondon

Then see where needs strengthening.

3.) 27 Sep 2022 17:05:34
The wings require strengthening. We need winger who can score goals regularly.

4.) 27 Sep 2022 18:23:07
Bunk - mina and Rondon are out of contract next summer so they’ll probably go.

Doucore is also out of contract in summer so will be interesting to see what happens to him.

Whilst losing those 3 will help with the wages, is quite disappointing we won’t get a fee for them.

Mina in particular who when fit was probably our best centreback - just a shame he’s so fragile.

5.) 27 Sep 2022 20:59:02
Mina has been a sad story, clearly very talented but just can’t stay fit. Shame to see him go, but he’s collecting a massive wage and not playing.

6.) 27 Sep 2022 21:43:36
Priority for me next season would be to sign coady permanently, especially given that Mina will be going.

Once that business is done, I would then look for winger, Att mid and another CB if we end up replacing keane. Probs go for Ben brereton Diaz again too.

{Ed025's Note - im hoping that will happen in january MK..

7.) 27 Sep 2022 22:11:50
I seem to remember hearing/ saying the same sort of thing when Brands came in Cropper…

We will definitely need a few more windows before we can see what he can do. Just hope Moshiri has learnt his lesson to not interfere this time.

8.) 28 Sep 2022 09:25:37
Yea definitely get Coady in permanently, obviously. For me a RB is needed as much if not more than anywhere else. Vulnerable there if Coleman gets a knock and can't see him continuing past this season.

Kinda lacking an attacking midfielder also.

9.) 28 Sep 2022 09:49:42
I hear what you are saying BR in that it is only a short time frame but the signings ate a clear improvement. So far so good.
Absolutely Coady should be a token priority. I don't think centre back will be a priority area after securing Coady services permanently. I think Godfrey will come good and I think Brainthwaite will be vyk gfor a place next season. Attacking areas look the most likely areas that need improving; winger and Am.

10.) 28 Sep 2022 09:51:11
Apart from hopefully making Coady deal permanent in January I don’t think the club should be looking to sign anyone unless it’s a really good deal.

Most transfers in January you overpay for as it’s half way through most seasons and will affect the selling club.

Hopefully as our performances and results improve and we continue to climb the table Frank can then start at looking to integrate some of the under 23s into the squad in positions we need.

Kyle John - rightback
Charlie Whittaker and Stanley Mills - attacking midfield

There are several players in the under 23s that could hopefully step up to the first team and once our position in the league is a bit healthier hopefully we’ll see them given some game time as could save some money in the long term.

11.) 28 Sep 2022 20:13:44
Good post Gingerdan. Can't help but feel that too many of the youngsters don't get enough chances. Lampard does like to bring them in. It is good to blend them in over time with the more experienced players.

For example the already mentioned Jarrad Branthwaite by Blue-tit. Can't wait to see him line up. Seems perfect timing for him to develop alongside Coady and Tar as they are at the latter stages of their career. No reason they can't go another 6 years.

Also Garner and Onana alongside Iwobi and Gana. Brilliant cohesion in terms of looking to blend youth with experience. Also keeping the long term future of players improving greatly with time. Patterson, Myko and McNeil being others that will only increase in both value and the contribution to the team. Hell our keeper is still only 28 with brilliant back up.

That's why I was so impressed with recruitment this year. We all factors that needed to be looked at the future very bright indeed.

12.) 29 Sep 2022 00:17:29
As many said shame Mina is a sicknote as he is actually good. But would take Coady and Tark anyday.

Our CB options next season could/ should be Coady, Tarks, Godfrey, Branthwaite and Holgate.

13.) 29 Sep 2022 20:45:50
True br but I'm staying hopefully. I think making coady permanent is a must do. As well as the obvious benefit it also frees up the loan position if I'm not mistaken. That gives us flexibility and means we can avoid the bumped up prices hopefully.

14.) 01 Oct 2022 06:24:12
Sry but imo if we sold Jordan Pickford for 40-50m we’d quite literally be having our pants pulled down.

08 Aug 2021 10:53:55
Ok let's dig for some positivity on the lead up to the beginning of the season:
- our lw has just finished the Olympics top scorer after having a good copa America also
- our striker should get a lot more service from players who actually like to cross the ball
- our goal keeper has just came off of a solid euros (yesterday was a friendly so I'm niavely trying to ignore that)
- gbamin has had a decent preseason and looks like he may actually contribute to the team
- Godfrey is only going to get better this season (honestly think he is going to be a top level player)
- we have cut out some of the deadwood. Hopefully more to go too.
- stadium has progressed
- personally really like our kits

I know I'm kind of scraping the barrel and turning a blind eye too but I just have to try to find some positivity. At the minute everything feels so toxic, if we go down in the first game our fans will turn and rafa will be hung up too blame immediately. From that point on I think its going to be a long hard season. If on the other hand we try to get behind the team and push them on, I think we can still have a decent season. We have some good quality players and showed at times last season we can compete. Rafa should bring us more consistency and will have the players working hard to improve their fitness.

06 Jun 2021 11:42:13
Hey Eds, hoping you can clear something up for me.

I've see a lot of people saying if we get nuno we could expect an influx of Portuguese youngsters. I thought the main reason this was happening was because mendes is connected with wolves as a club? I think he is also nunos agent but didn't think that was the main factor.

cropper16

{Ed002's Note - Wolves are concerned that Everton will use Mendes (who also advises Moshiri) to take Neto. I explained before about the concerns Brands has over advisors driving Everton - and it may be a returning issue.}

1.) 06 Jun 2021 12:55:02
Surely by now Moshiri must realise that this hasn't worked in the past.

01 Jun 2021 22:01:09
Evening ed, in the past we were linked with rangnick. Any chances of any past interest being reignited?

cropper16

{Ed025's Note - ralf seems to have gone off the radar recently cropper mate..

That's a good point Ed. Honestly I hadn't thought any further than the positives but I think you may be right. Things are improving and seam a bit more stable than recent times. I could understand moshiri wanting to get out though.

cropper16

{Ed025's Note - I just hope it doesn’t disrupt our recent improvement cropper. New owners tend to want to bring in their own staff and may have different ideas on how the club is run mate..

Whilst I agree about recruitment, there are a couple who I feel we got unlucky with. Gbamin with a serious injury early. Gomes was looking good before his injury. Ok i'm running a little low now but could probably include mina there too.

What's brands actually done since he came in? Fair enough their disagreement may have been the tipping point, but do we actually think he's done well? I know a lot of people will say he never had control due to moshiri and his advisors but brands has to take some blame there. He's sat taking a good pay check for years whilst letting everything go over his head.

What rb have we secured? I haven't seen anything and for me is still pur biggest problems for 2 or 3 seasons now. I will give the lb a chance, but I think it's asking a lot to come over here from a country and league like that and have an instant impact. I would have to think the club has faith in him though to spend that much money at the minute.

According to a quick Google (by no means saying this is accruate) current contracts due to end this year:
-sigurdsson - guess no action on that one.
- tosun - he can go.
- delph - personally wouldn't mind resigning but on a lower salary if that were possible. He no way deserves the money he is on at the minute.
- Kenny- would imagine he will be gone
- Braithwaite- hopefully can sort this out
- lonergan - with begovic I guess we would let this go

These players alone add up to about 270k a week - again according to online reports. Are any of these really going to be a big miss? Obviously I understand we may need to bring people in to replace them in the squad. Hopefully we can upgrade a few of them at the same time.

Ed002, which ones have came over to the prem and been successful? Fair enough, I may be wrong, just can't think of many off the top of my head.

{Ed002's Note - Aguero, Ricardo Villa, Fernandinho, Gilberto Silva, Coutinho, Ramires , Oscar, Tevez, Fabinho, Ardilles, Lucas Leiva, Mascherano, Thiago Silva, Alisson , Gabriel Jesus, Davide Luis, Firmino, Ederson, Juninho, Willian - and that is off the top of my head.}

Shorthen America has always produced lots of talent but, realistically, how many have left their games for the Premier league (or other big leagues) and made it? There are a few but really there isn't many so it makes them a big risk (which I don't think we are in a position to take) .

cropper16

{Ed002's Note - Huge numbers have been very successful in Europe.}

Ed, honestly I agree. We may not have as many really good games but we also shouldn't have as many really bad games. I know a lot of people are feeling negative for the season but we do have some positives and we have some players that a lot of teams would love to have (digne, dcl, richy, Godfrey, maybe even keane who had a good season) . Outside of that you have Allen, decoure, mina, pickford who aren't bad players. Gray had started decent and townsend will give us a presence on the wing. I think it'll be a solid, if unremarkable season and I'll take that for now. Until this deadwood is gone, we will struggle but I think people assume this is so much easier than it is.

cropper16

{Ed025's Note - something had to give cropper, the club has been in regression for a number of years now and im hoping this back to basics formula will give the club some perspective mate.
We have bought very poorly over a number of years now and its finally caught up with us, bring a few lesser lights in with big hearts and a work ethic and that would do for me, forget all these superstars on £200k a week for now and lets become a hard working hard to beat efficient unit who will make us proud, im not saying we wont have any flair because we still have some top players..

I think we really need to be realistic here. As Ed says, those clubs make so much more than us, they can then afford to pay more (both in fees and wages) under ffp guidelines.

Hopefully the new stadium boosts our income and closes the gap but its a long game to get to those heights (if we ever do) .
