Eds - two players we've been linked to in the past and wondering if we have shown any interest in January moves for them:

Kevin Gameiro - it seems clear we are looking for a striker and he hasn't had much game time this season.

Daley Blind - contract running out at the end of the season and would strengthen LB and LCB positions.

Any interest shown in either of these?

Thanks!

Toffee in Herts

{Ed002's Note - Kevin Gameiro is seen by Valencia as an alternative to Sandro Ramrez. He is also seen as an option by Newcastle. If Everton are interested he would likely be third choice after Hirving Lozano and Richmond Boakye, but there is every chance he will move when Diego Costa arrives. Daley Blind was of interest to Koeman but the player had no interest in Everton so I would not expect anything to happen there.}

Thanks Ed - much appreciated.

Interesting to hear about Lozano - have we shown an interest in him?

Also I thought he was playing as a winger for PSV - are we interested in him as a main striker?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Everton have enquired after Lozano and he can play in pretty much anuy forward position.}

2.) 19 Dec 2017 16:13:26
Never heard of them before ed. Are they highly rated how old are they and would the consider a team like us at the minute?

{Ed002's Note - Lozano is young (22 or 23) and having a very good season. Arsenal are keen on him as well.

Boakye is about 25 and scoring at about a goal a game for Red Star. Marseille have spoken with his club and Newcastle have an interest although it is Rennes that have put an offer on the table. he has made clear his desire to play for Chelsea. Howevr, he has only really turned it on gol wise this season and there is always a risk in taking a raw talent and asking him to step up.}

3.) 19 Dec 2017 17:02:15
Agree ed on player who hasn’t had prem experience is a risk even more so with our lovely weather up north 🙈. But we are in need of striker who knows where the net is. So we will be taking risks. We took on on Sandro and it hasn’t worked out for whatever reason but at £5mil it was an easy risk for the club to take. I can se eus going for benteke if the price is £30mil and I hope we do not sign a number 10 as I want to see Dowell in thisnpositins next year.

Ed - I've read some reports linking us to Stefan de Vrij from Lazio. His contract is coming to an end this summer and would be an excellent signing to shore up our defence.

Have we shown any interest in him?

Toffee in Herts

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware. Liverpool enqure but discussions are in hand with Inter right now.}

I see Thomas Tuchel's odds have shortened for next manager.

Interested in eds views on him as a manager. From the media hype I would be very excited (he's talked about in the same breath as some of the best in the world) . However when you look a bit further into it, he struggled at Dortmund, fell out with the board and was repeatedly accused of playing players out of position with negative effects (Portugal LB Gueirrero in CM as an example) .

Strikes me as sounding very similar to Koeman 18 months ago. What is eds view?

Are there any top managers from the continent that would be interested in the job? Is there any interest in Lucien Favre?

Thanks Ed!

Toffee in Herts

{Ed002's Note - Tuchel has been a mixed bag as a manager and is yet again taking a year off. I don't see him joining Everton and I don't see Favre leaving Nice for Everton.}

1.) 24 Oct 2017 17:18:26
Hi Ed who would you think we could get as our manager thanks.

{Ed025's Note - i think a lot would fancy it eddy, favre is a contender along with silva and tuchel i think, rhino is in the box seat for now so i think we should wait and see how he does first mate..

2.) 24 Oct 2017 17:21:57
Thanks Ed. Shame about Favre - I've been following him a bit since you brought him to my attention on this site when Martinez left and seems like he has been doing excellent things at Nice. Liverpool in winter is a tough sell from south of France as well!

You spoke about Favre last time - who do you think would be a good choice this time round?

{Ed002's Note - I think he would be a great choice but I don't see it happening.}

3.) 24 Oct 2017 21:04:30
I think we already have our next manager in place, his name is Rhino, like Ed said I would sit back and wait to see how Rhino does before jumping into the fire too quickly.

Rumours from Kristoff Terreur (usually very dependable Belgian journalist) that Mirallas might be on his way out - talk of loan to olympiakos.

Would be disappointed if he left and would add winger to our shopping list!

I will pay for Mirallas plane ticket--simply not good enough--too inconsistent--goal scoring record poor--attitude poor--get rid now.

Exciting season ahead!

Chelsea, utd and Spurs all with poor windows. Us, West Ham and Leicester all excellent windows. Plus Fulham and Wolves unknown quantities.

Don't think we will finish top.

Mina, Gomes (loan) and Zouma on loan would be a fantastic deadline day but would be happy with just Mina. Others joining would surely mean selling/ loaning others (Schneiderlin? Pennington? Besic? ) post-deadline day in UK.

Saying all that, the dream would probably be Mina + Deondecker. Apparently Wolves have agreed 18m fee for him - so he's not ludicrously expensive, plus can cover CM, CB and FB positions.

Will trust whoever Brands and Silva go for though!

Agree with degsy below - for me we should be focussing on thinning the squad and improving it with a few well placed signings.

So my opinion on where we need strengthening:
CB - Essential. I like Lascelles but I think we actually need to sign someone who can build a strong partnership. I would go for Ben Mee. Probably means Funes Mori and or Williams leaving.

LB - Don't think this is as big a weakness as first appears as I back Robinson to come into 1st team squad this season. Still wouldn't mind an extra body (especially if they can fill multiple positions) . Juan Bernat from Bayern is one that has interested in the past.

CM - to play alongside Gueye and play the ball forward. William Carvalho would fit this bill, or Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria. Would mean 2 of Besic, McCarthy and Schneiderlin moving on.

WG/ ST - some pace who can fill in on LW and ST positions. Marcus Rashford on loan would be a dream. Otherwise Justin Kluivert or Lozano. Trust Tosun to lead the line next season. Caveat to that is if Batshuayi becomes available!

Out for me:
Mori (one of few squad players who could fetch us some money)
Williams (past it)
Martina (never had it)
Schneiderlin (same reason as Mori)
McCarthy (could fetch some money, plus I think Besic offers us something different)
Mirallas (not needed and potential to cause trouble)
Niasse (hard worker, but not good enough and rumoured trouble maker)
Rooney (sad to see him go, but time to move on)

1.) 05 Jun 2018 13:15:52
Agree with most of that except McCarthy, I've seen more from him than I ever have from Besic. Both injury prone so if were keeping one it would be Mcarthy.
Batshuayi can't play as a lone nine so forget him.

04 Jun 2018 07:02:34
We need to stay well clear of Arnie. Disregarding the money, the guy is 29 and has had 1 good season in his entire career - and even that one he was injured for a large portion.

Players that age we should be looking for consistency who have done it year on year.

Perfect manager for me would be Ralph Hasenhuttl - who has just left RB Leipzig.

Would love a team built around young, exciting players like Leipzig have been. And we have the players already to do it - Pickford, Kenny, Robinson, Holgate, Connolly, Davies, Baningime, Vlasic, Dowell, Lookman, DCL.

Eds - are you aware of any interest in him from the club?

Toffee in Herts

{Ed001's Note - no mate sorry.}

1.) 21 May 2018 15:52:21
I mentioned him the other day but still think it will be Silva.

2.) 21 May 2018 18:17:44
Hassenhutti have to google him but great name.

Think he's a quality player - but isn't our problem too many no 10s / centre mids?

We need to sign players who fit the system and provide balance across the squad, not just for their quality - otherwise we will make the same mistakes as last summer.

Toffee in Herts

{Ed002's Note - Only one side has approached Chelsea about RLC and it is not Everton.}

Very British level of arrogance that we think 2nd tier in England is better to play in than top 6 in Germany!

I'm divided over this to be honest. I would love Lookman to stay and play a major role in the 1st team this season. But considering that isn't happening under Sam, then half a season on loan with one of the most exciting teams in Europe is surely the next best thing.

Could not agree more with your opening line. For some reason half of our fans seem more concerned with being anti-Liverpool than pro-Everton. Every time Everton is criticised they respond by attacking Liverpool (case in point the "stepping stone" debate below) , rather than accept / challenge the criticism of Everton.

Personally it doesn't bother me one bit what Liverpool do. If they play the best football and are the best team in the league this season and win it - well done them, but it doesn't affect Everton at all. The only thing that would bother me about that is my red mates not shutting up about it!

Ed, I take your point and agree that "teams who don't perform will fall behind".

My point is more that over 38 games over the course of 9 months we need to perform and improve. 'Improvement' from last season means being closer to the top 6 than last time, playing better football and winning more points. It also means performing better than close rivals like Leicester and West Ham.

Every win of course helps that, but if we draw our 2nd game of the season (a game we should be winning) that doesn't mean that we can't be in a better position in 9 months time than we are now.

If you take the extreme example of Palace last season. They finished 11th, 2 goals from a top half finish. That probably constituted a successful season from them and an improvement on the season before. Yet they lost their 1st 7 games without scoring a goal - the worst ever start to a Premier League season.

This may not be a transition season, but these first few weeks are certainly a transition period in the context of the season.

I was not convinced at the appointment for the same reasons ducksflysouth mentioned - however I will give him the time to make it work and don't think we should make a judgement on him until Christmas at the earliest. And we definitely shouldn't be judging him after 1 game against Southampton.

I actually don't think 3 points this weekend is hugely important. We are a team with lots of new signings and trying t implement a new style so a short term view of 'we must win this weekend' isn't particularly helpful. More generally, I would say at no point in any season is the 2nd game a 'must win'.

Talk of challenging the top 6 is very premature considering where we were just a few months ago. Let's be patient and accept that we might not get immediate results, but what we need is an improvement over the course of 9 months, not 1 week.

Of course I want us to win every game, and of course I would love us to capitalise on our relatively gentle start in terms of opposition.

But if we play well, the players learn more about the style MS is trying to play in and show the heart and desire we showed at the weekend - and we only get a point. then it's not the end of the world.

Toffee in Herts

{Ed002's Note - Whilst I remain far from convinced about the manager, I am afraid that using the excuse of transition is not really good enough. This has been the excuse that Liverpool has been using year in and year out. Most players will settle reasonably quickly - perhaps one won't and will need a little extra time but teams who don't perform will fall behind.}

Not talking about size or history of club here, but ability and quality of current squad.

But yes I think we are a similar level to West Ham. I think we need to be realistic about our current situation and position at the moment. I see us, West Ham and Leicester as the teams who should be fighting for 7th. That's where we are right now in my eyes - and that's the size of our current challenge to get close to top 6.

But I believe now we have the right owner and structure in place to build and improve - if MS sticks around longer than his previous clubs!

I like McCarthy, and think he could do well under Silva.

But for me he is injured too often. And if you look at our squadz he probably has a higher value on the market than he should based on contributions he has made in the past 2-3 years. Therefore I think we should sell to raise funds to improve squad.
