Mangala > In!

Supposedly en route to USBFF for medical. A very nice addition in my opinion if true.

I'm really think that we already have the personnel to solve our current cb delemma. I would love to see Holgate play more at his natural position of cb and Kenny step in at rb. Martina and Holgate have been servicable at best, but I really think Kenny has all the tools needed to affect the game at rb. Not sure what I'm missing because RK doesn't seem to agree with this yet, but at some point I predict he'll figure it out. Hopefully sooner than later. Time will tell. I mean if Lookman can continue to see game time why not Kenny?

I was also really disappointed to see Dowell go out on loan. Especially because we are so thin at striker. Even Niasse could still play a role on the team as it stands today. I could see him effectively coming off the bench as an extra attacker when we're trailing in the game. Let's hope we sign a top striker before the window slams shut. I thought we should have gone in hard on Iheanacho.

Sandro was terrible today, but so was almost everyone else on the squad. I'm not sure if it was the injury or just a bad game or what. But I'm not down on him yet. What I've seen from him in other games still leads me to believe that he can be an effective striker in the PL.

I was watching highlights of Georginio Wijnaldum's time at Newcastle and what jumped out at me was that on nearly every one of Wijnaldum's goals was on the end of a Moussa Sissoko pass. If I recall correctly even one of his penalty shots was from a foul on Sissoko in the box. This is the guy. Forget Witsel or Carvalho. Sissoko gets my vote. He does it all. I know he's been inconsistent, but I think even Messi would have some downs if he had to play on that Newcastle team. Thoughts? Who should they bring in as a 'Barry replacement'?

Newcastle looked dreadful in the 1st haalf of last season but in some games later on, they started to come together and nearly avoided relegation. They have some good players. The Premier League has never been tighter and top to bottom is a whiskers difference. Sometimes one player on form eg Hazzard at Chelsea can make all the difference. get 2 going well or 3 then you win the league. Vardy, Mahrez and Kante for example.

Dare I say Lukaku going down might not be the worst thing in the world. That statement is depending on the severity of course. Maybe now Martinez will finally capture a decent backup striker. Let the rumors begin!

I heard an unbelievable rumor that the official Everton FC website was finally going to figure out how to mic their news conferences so that the reporters weren't 10 times as loud as the manager or players being interviewed. Seriously I have to turn my computer speakers up to 11 just to hear them answer the questions.

Hello all. I have been a huge Everton fan ever since Tim Howard joined the team back in 06-07. I have known Timmy from way back so I follow his career closely from the states and try to make a game when I am in London visiting my wife's parents. Also, I am now a huge fan of Roberto Martinez and have enjoyed watching the team more this year than years past under Moyes. I mention these things to give context to my question.
So want I am wondering is, why does there seem to be an air of negativity surrounding Everton's push to qualify for the Europa league? Everything I read seems to present qualifying for the Europa as a huge letdown and even I have even seen instances where it is preferred that Everton don't qualify for anything at all if it is not the Champions League. Obviously I realize that the Champions qualification is the more desired result. But as I see it qualifying for the Europa would be the proper stepping stone for fullfilling the desire to become a member of the UEFA elite, and Champions League, on a permanent basis. I am aware that in order to play these extra games there has to be a certain level of depth achieved for the squad, but I assume that there will be added financial benefit from qualifying for the Europa that could help achieve that. Am I wrong about this? I also think it would be terrific experience playing in Europe against some more equal competition. So I don't know, can someone please clarify this issue for me? Am I just misinterpreting what is out there in some of these articles, blogs, and comment sections? What do you think? Thanks for taking the time to read this long winded post. Here's hoping for a successful final push to season.

1.) Unfortunately some EFC fans expected RM to work miracles and get us into the CL at his first attempt.and after a really good start and especially after the week we beat UTD & drew at Arsenal most people, myself included, thought maybe, just maybe we could.the reality is our squad wasnt able to cope with playing several games without a proper striker.i think if we can get Europa League it will be a very good achievement for RM is his first season.i just hope we really push on now and finish as high as possible.we also still have some very big games to play at Goodsion so we still have a big part to play.whatever happens Roberto has been a breath of fresh air and I am looking forward to seeing him build his own team and challenging again next season

{Ed025's Note - im with you all the way there willo..good post mate..

2.) I think that Martinez brought a new wave of optimism to the fans. After 11 years of David Moyes, many fans thought he had done as much as he could. He then left with lots of bad feelings in the manner it happened. Martinez is very media friendly and came in and said all the right things. He also started to introduce a more passing game for the back 4. His signing on loan of Lukaku was just what we needed. After 10 or so games, everything was looking tidy! However, whereas under Moyes we mainly started slow then picked up, under Martinez, we seem to have started well but now seem to be faltering a little. Hopefully, we will pick up again and go on a decent run. If you have read any of my previous posts, I sometimes get stick for suggesting things are not as rosy as the majority of fans have been thinking. I believe that Lukaku aside, we are lacking of goals. I believe one thing will decide how we progress over the next 2 years. That is if we sign Lukaku on a permanent. Without his goals and presence, I think we will really start to struggle. I know other signings will be possible, but I don't think we can get another player with 15-20 goals every season for the sort of money we have. We have been trying to get one for about 20 years! So that's my assessment as to why people are a bit down at the moment. Expectations grew after a good start, but as usual, for all Evertonians, our patience is tested to the limit.

3.) Personally I believe the negativity at the moment is down to 2 hugely disappointing and hurtful results against Liverpool and Arsenal. I think after 20 years without a trophy, people are getting frustrated when we "bottle it" so to speak and fall short. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated by that either, but I never expected, as bluewillo said, Roberto to work miracles, but he got everyone's hopes up very high which is again why those 2 results against Liverpool and Arsenal were so hurtful. Just hope the wait for a trophy doesn't go on too much longer, I hate the fact that the older generation of Evertonians have seen us win many trophies, but the younger generation haven't seen us win one.

4.) Thanks for the replies to my questions. Some very good input. I too had high expectations after a fast start and agree that the lack of a reliable striker for some time really hurt them. I would love to see them linked with some quality strikers this summer to add some quality and depth to the position. Unfortunately I don't think we will see Lukaku back next year, but that doesn't mean we can't find a suitable replacement.
What about some of the financial ramifications of playing Europa football? Is there enough money in the play to help build the depth necessary to compete? I know Everton has had an influx of television money to help them with their financial situation and I know Martinez will continue to use the loan market to his benefit. I see a team like Tottenham being able to spend decent money and would love to see Everton is a similar situation. Would playing in Europa help them take that step?

RK said the same about Luk and Jags. What do you think the chances of both of them being at the club on Sept 1st?

Would take an almost 40 mil profit on Lukaku everyday of the week. That much for a player that can barely receive a pass with his back to the goal, and seems to turn the ball over more than he doesn't, is a steal.

Of course he has his moments, Chelsea goal wow, but he is too reliant on other players to set him up and not able to create for himself often enough to be considered a top tier striker.

Aguero (35mil albeit in 2011) , Suarez (80mil) , Neymar (71mil) , De Bruyne (69mil) , Rodriguez (71mil) , Bale (80mil) and you get my point.

Players we could get two of if we sell Lukaku for 65mil. Sanchez (35mil) , Diego Costa (32mil) , Vidal (30mil) , Douglas Costa (30mil) , Martial (36mil) , Dybala (26mil).

I know he scores goals, and his shooting accuracy in among the best in the world inside the box with his left foot, but my point is that he is VERY replaceable. Especially at 65 million.

And bye bye to Stonsey too at 45-50 mil. They could have 200mil to spend this summer. Fun times.

I badly want this rumor to be true. It would be a great piece of business, especially considering how nice of a bargain the Deulofeu move was. Might as well make it a Barcelona tri-fecta and close with signing Traore (on loan maybe?) as well. We'll surely be able to make a good living surviving on Barcelona's scraps.

I went to school with Timmy, still speaking with him occasionally when he is stateside, and as a result have become a huge Everton fan while I follow his career closely. I do hope that Martinez is not looking for a replacement and I agree with you wholeheartedly Ed, that keeper does not need to be an area of concern for a few more years. And I know Timmy is very happy with the club, so from that end he is going nowhere. I've grown to really enjoy watching Everton football, especially under Martinez, and I think I will remain an admirer even if Timmy does get replaced. But I am hoping for quite a few more years to enjoy watching him in goal for the team.

A 5th place finish with their highest point total year one, knock out round of the Euro's year two, and two cup semi-finals year three under Martinez.

That's not bad in my opinion.

If his team could defend set pieces and not give away late goals their position on the table would have been much better. But then again if my Aunt had a @#$% she'd be my Uncle.

Lukaku or Bony? Let's say they will the have the opportunity to acquire both this summer but it turns out they decide they can only spend the money for one of them. Which one do you choose and why?
