Everton Football Club has completed the signing of young Uruguayan prospect Leandro Rodriguez on a four-year deal to June 2019.

The 22-year-old striker has arrived at Goodison from River Plate Montevideo for an undisclosed fee.

Rodriguez netted 19 goals in 71 games for his hometown club and is regarded by Everton manager Roberto Martinez as a player with the talent to develop into a real threat in the Premier League.

"He's a young talent - one of those elite, talented youngsters who we like to bring in, " said the Toffees boss. "Mason Holgate is a clear example of a really strong, young English defender and Leandro Rodriguez is a young striker with a real knack of scoring goals.

"But he's much more than that, too. His contribution is a lot more than that and hopefully we can provide a path where he can develop and enjoy his football. If he can do that, clearly that's going to bring goals to the first team.

"He probably won't [need time with the Under-21s] because he has played enough games with his first team in Uruguay in a really competitive league.

"If you look at the amount of strikers that come through those environments, you don't get surprised about the quality of these players.

"I am not saying that to put pressure on the boy, but he is a player we can be very much excited about in the future."

Everton left-back Leighton Baines withdraws from the England squad to face Slovenia and Scotland through injury.

His absence means that Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs is the only recognised left back in the squad. Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson will not call up a replacement.

"Baines picked up an injury in training on Friday morning and will return to his club for treatment, " says the Football Association.

{Ed025's Note - im glad CC, i dont want our players injured and playing meaningless matches for their country, its probably only a knock so he is better off at home mate..

1.) 14 Nov 2014 18:57:25
Can we scrap international matches alltogether? Everyone in the right mind loves their club more than their national team, its poimtless, boring, dangerous and annoying, i'd happily get rid of it

{Ed025's Note - where do i sign?..

2.) 14 Nov 2014 21:29:47
But if we scrapped international football where would the FIFA cronies get their back-handers and other 'perks' from? ;-)

{Ed025's Note - good point sid..

3.) Ed025: Just a thought - if it's not being too stupid - but how about a vote asking: "Should international football - that is between nations - be scrapped and international football be limited to competitions just at the club level? 'Yes' or 'No'".

{Ed025's Note - i have submitted it to ED01 sid to be put on the voting list mate..

Everton FC Returns to Dr Pepper Dallas Cup
Toffees will seek to become England's fifth Gordon Jago Super Group Champion

DALLAS, Texas (Wednesday Sept. 17) - The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the most prestigious youth soccer tournament in the United States, has announced that Everton FC, the current Barclays U18 Premier League Champion, has officially accepted the invitation to participate in the elite tournament's 2015 Gordon Jago Super Group. Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVI will be held from March 29 through April 5, 2015.

Returning for a third time to the Dallas Cup, the Merseyside club is recognized as being one of the premier developmental academies in England. Two of their esteemed graduates, 2014 FIFA World Cup players Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley, appeared with Everton in the 1999 and 2012 Dallas Cup tournaments, respectively.

In May of this year, Everton defeated Manchester City 1-0 to win the Barclays U18 Premier League, the highest level of youth soccer played in England. In consideration to represent the club in Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVI are many of the players from that championship team, including Harry Charsley, who scored the championship-clinching goal, along with English U18 national team players Ryan Ledson, who recently captained England to the European U17 championship, Callum Connolly, and Jonjoe Kenny.

The Toffees upcoming trip to Dallas continues the long-standing relationship between the world-renowned tournament and the English Premier League. Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City are among the Premier League teams that have competed in past Dallas Cups. Fulham was the last English side to claim the Gordon Jago Super Group, hoisting the "Boot and Ball" trophy in 2013.

Leave the lad alone . great prospect in the making after his showing in his first season, more to come for sure .
Already a fans favourite , he'll be here for years.
Reminds me of Tony Kay in his younger days , lots of bite to compliment his obvious skills, his enthusism is second to none , just hope he reaches TK level

Shelbourne boss John McDonnell says that Everton are in talks to sign young centre half Ryan Robinson from the Irish side.

The 18 year old joined Shelbourne from St. Kevin’s Boys at the start of the U19 season in July 2013 after captaining his former Under 17 side to a treble, securing the DDSL 17 Premier title, the DDSL Cup and the All-Ireland trophy in his final season with the club.

Now looking to make his name in England, Robinson has already taken to Twitter saying that Seamus Coleman will look after him if he joins the Blues.

“Everton are chipping away with us on Ryan at the moment and we hope to get the deal over the line soon, ” Shelbourne boss McDonnell told the Irish Examiner.

“The initial fee won’t make us millionaires but we’ll make sure it’s heavy on the end of it. It might be better for us to go for the add-ons and everything else.

“Ryan certainly has a big future in the game. Everton would have seen a rawness to him but he has a lot going for him.

“We’d have no problem allowing him to move on to a better level in England.”
