Seeing Watford’s result and performance this season has had me thinking. Maybe it’s coming from what Marco started? The style of play takes time to get across and now maybe it’s working for them? Roberto Martinez set up the foundations at Swansea and Brendan Rogers benefitted from this. I vaguely remember Howard Wilkinson doing similar with Leeds and David O’Leary getting the youngsters coming through. Just a thought, maybe the most optimistic thought I know.

Optomistic I think mate. or why didn't Koeman benefit from what Martinez set up? Its more to do with players coming and going and youth players progressing. We had seasons with players coming through the youth and some great signings. Martinez made a couple of great signings but also some terrible ones. He also allowed the squad to age and we had only Barkley come through. Lukaku was a great signing that kept us going. But when he and Barkley left, it gave us a huge hole of forward players. We never really replaced them. Siggy was supposed to. and Tosun too but neither have been consistent enough. The age of the squad was allowed to increase and suddenly we had loads of players on their last legs. Hopefully we will see some more youth players coming through and make some new signings too.

Brendon Rogers didn’t follow Martinez, Paulo Sousa did.

To be fair, maybe Koeman did benefit from Martinez, he had a really good run to start with but didn't (or wasn't allowed to? ) replace Lukaku.

I think it's a fair point about Watford, though. People are saying it's optimistic but maybe we should ask if it's more optimistic to believe a manager can make such a turnaround in just over half a season without the foundation being laid beforehand.

If that is the case Jose deserves credit at Utd, for setting up Ole and big Sam for Doing likewise for Silva.

I would give credit to the current Watford manager, rather than Silva mate.

Martinez a good coach, terrible Manager, would be a much better fit with Brands as DoF. Wilkinson! all I remember is his undermining of Francis! I think as under 21 manager. Watford, simply put have a coach/ manager streets ahead of who we have. All we can wish for is third time lucky.

Difference with United is Solskjar inherited a pretty decent team that previous manager had lost whereas Silva inherited unbalanced squad, bloated in places, holes in others.
