Leaving aside all the manager talk, I was saddened the hear of the passing of the man who was my first footballing hero - Fred Pickering. My Dad took me to my first game at Goodison to see him in the 60's (A 0-0 v Birmingham City) and a lifetime affinity with the club began. There have been many great number 9's at our club, but, for me, Fred will always be up there with the legends. R. I. P. Sir.

Agree 100% with those sentiments Tezza. Fred was the same age as myself so I watched pretty much all of his games at Goodison. I was at the 1966 cup final and was heartbroken for him that he missed the game. R. I. P.

I remember watching Fred at Blackpool when I was too young to travel to Everton on my own. He was often seen in the boozer the night before :-)
