Well before anyone slags me off can I just say that it was only a momentary musing not based on anything more than I heard his contract was up in the summer and no mention of a new contract apparently!
So Petr Czech (excuse spelling) anyone think he would be a good acquisition in place of Stekenlenburg,
Just a discussion prompt nothing else
My tin hat is on and sandbags filled, Go!
Big C.

{Ed025's Note - certainly better tan what we have at the moment BigC..

hes definitely an upgrade on stek but would he come here to be number 2 i don't think so mate but ad love it if he did.

We need to try and steal Pope or Heaton from Burnley if possible.

Petr Cech has always been one I would love at our club, alongside Neuer and, or ter Stegan of course, but I doubt he'd be happy playing back-up to Pickford.

Every keeper mentioned is a massive upgrade on pickford.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, my mother would be a massive upgrade and she has sciatica and rheumatoid arthritis....}

Lets not start slagging off Pickford please. He's a young quality keeper learning his trade. He will become even better as each season passes. Anything better out there just won't join our non Champs League club anyway.

When it comes to keepers, we have had the worlds number 1, USAs number 1 and now we have Englands number 1. that's not bad for a club with our recent history is it?

I think we need a number 2 to Pickford and Pope or Heaton would be good competition and might prove to be better in the long run, Pickford needs competition.
The problem I see is the present regime seems to have no interest in British players, I am thinking of Abraham going to Wolves a great loan signing for them. We do seem to only link with overseas players.

I totally agree with Toffee Ace Jordan Pickford is an excellent goalkeeper, yes he's made some mistakes but he is a young lad learning his trade, personaly I think we should be applauding him he has saved us so many times when the opposing team could have had a cricket score, come to think of it Cech has made numerous mistakes, if any one blame should take any flack on the team I would say its our defence that needs sorting but to blame Jordan is wrong.

{Ed025's Note - jordan is an excellent shot stopper GB but the rest of his game leaves a lot to be desired, as you say though he is still young and learning, but he has to learn quick mate..

07 Jan 2019 18:04:18
Agree Ed mate but I still think its our defence that is putting him under pressure instead of booting the ball into row Z.

{Ed025's Note - i can see that GB but it works both ways mate..

GB Young lad, definitely OJT but either very slow on the uptake (being polite) or bad coaching, I do not believe it is bad coaching. GB sometimes mate you are just too nice. He either stands rooted or gallops with bad timing. The Header by Lincoln for instance was easily grabable (is that a word) .

07 Jan 2019 18:54:42
That was a bit harsh Ed001 lol As some say he's young and should improve, but he needs to do it quickly otherwise he won't retain his England No1 spot. As for the defense, yes they could help out more by not making so many mistakes. Fingers crossed they all start to gel sooner rather than later.

{Ed001's Note - personally I am not so sure it is. Pickford is error prone and was at Sunderland. He will never be a top keeper as he is not intelligent enough to learn from his mistakes.}

You have a point mate but once again it was panic at the back between Zouma and Mina that led to that goal.

12.) 07 Jan 2019
07 Jan 2019 20:25:06
NP Ed001. He can be error prone and naive at times but until someone less so comes along he's ours and he gets my support.

{Ed001's Note - up to you if you are happy supporting dross carry on lad. That is exactly why Real Madrid stuck by the useless Keylor Navas for years, as the fans backed him totally. They could have had de Gea at his peak instead but no, because they were afraid to upset the fans. Personally I think you give unquestioning support at games but then give the players and team the critical analysis they deserve after it.}

tammy Abraham is poor compared to DCL.

07 Jan 2019 23:17:05
All I’ll say is that if Pickford is as bad as everyone is saying, all the other English keepers must be utter tripe. I cannot fathom the criticism this guy is getting tonight. But then I remember when Big Nev got stick in the early days. He turned out alright.

07 Jan 2019 23:19:14
Couldn't agree more with the Eds. He is a great shot stopper and would make a tremendous 5 a side keeper but every other aspect of his goalkeeping is poor. The amount of times opponents head the ball inside our 6 yard box is embarassing. He also never seems to think he is at fault for anything so agree that he's unlikely to improve when he's too stupid/ arrogant to think he needs to improve.

16.) 07 Jan 2019
07 Jan 2019 23:20:42
GB watch that goal again and see where the guy heads it from. I'm not necessarily saying the CBs couldn't have done better but ultimately that has to be the keepers responsibility.

07 Jan 2019 23:23:22
I think since the World Cup his save has gone to his head and the praise for his kicking to he now seems cocky to me rather than confident! I do think he will improve as he gets older but who could we attract who’s better? And I think as a club looking to build for the future and his name is in the lights we would cash in if a great offer comes in for England’s No1. His biggest down side for me though is his commanding of the box on crosses. Let’s hope he calms down abit and goes back to the keeper we know 👌🏼.

I'm not going to argue with you Ed001 but if we wrote off every player who made mistakes there'd be no-one left to support.

{Ed001's Note - I agree with that, but there is more to it with him. Making the odd mistake is one thing, being an imbecile without the intelligence to learn from your mistakes is quite another. Pickford is just lacking in the ability to learn, as well as being rash, too short, too fat, too slow and his distribution is, most of the time, utterly abysmal. He is Paddy Kenny's lovechild and plays just like Kenny did.}

19.) 08 Jan 2019
08 Jan 2019 03:13:51
Look, I agree he's prone to mistakes and he makes dubious decisions at times, and maybe it'll turn out that that's his level and he'll never improve, I guess only time will tell.

Anyone would think Ed001 was a wind up merchant! In all seriousness (ready to be shot down in flames here) Pickford is one of the best shot stoppers around. His distribution can be a little eratic at times. Sometimes excellent and sometimes woeful. Hi ability in the air is questioable. Since he joined us, we have conceded so many goals from set pieces. Almost one every other game I would guess. (no doubt someone will have stats to either back me up or shoot me down) . Most set pieces are in the air. Yes part of the problem is our zonal marking policy. But some of the problem is Pickford is either rooted to the line or is afraid to come and collect. He tries to punch clear occasionally but often gets that wrong and is either beaten to the ball by the opposition or mis punches the ball. He has been to blame directly for many goals but has also saved us with point blank shot stopping. Its a real dilema for me. If Ed is right and he is as thick as he says, he will never learn. I suspect he will learn because that's why we have coaches. But he seems to be taking his time!

Fair comment Degsyp. I don't think Ed001 was joking though, he clearly doesn't rate JP that highly does he lol.

08 Jan 2019 18:55:07
Some of Ed001's comments maybe a bit harsh (to some) . But one thing he is spot on about and something I have said for years. On game day the team and managerial staff have our unquestioning support, win or lose, play well or badly. Afterwards and within 'the family' we can criticise and voice displeasure. In recent seasons it has become the norm to boo the team and sub decisions, abhorrent as far as I am concerned.

{Ed001's Note - I hate it when fans boo their own players. I don't like booing full stop. I prefer to sing songs to support my team when there.}

Me too Ed. Which Milan team is it?

{Ed001's Note - you've lost me mate. Has this come through to the wrong thread or something?}

My sense of humour Ed. You said you like to be there to singa the songs for your team. So I said which of the Milans is it? Just a bit of a (poor) wind up.

{Ed001's Note - oh sorry mate. My bad. I had just woken up when I read it, well half-woken up, so never even considered humour at that bleary-eyed moment.}
