I stayed pretty much quiet the last week or so after reading some posts on here very critical of the manager and certain players. Particularly Tom Davies. I did a couple of posts but wanted to write more. Firstly it was obvious to me that West Ham had a much better squad than their record after 4 games showed. It was obvious that they had some quality players and would start picking up points. So although it was a setback losing to them. people should have taken certain factors into consideration. We were without quite a few players in key positions being the main one. Then we look at the Arsenal game and for the majority of that game we looked pretty good. We had a kid at right back, a kid at center half and another as captain who ran the show in midfield. Again we were missing some key players. Regular posters on this site know that for 3 or 4 seasons I have been a right miserable sod and have been all gloom and despondancy about the direction the club was going. But I can see we are now once again making progress. The manager wants us to attack and create. We are poor at defending set pieces and poor in defence at times. But he has been so unlucky with injuries and we have not even seen Mina yet. As the youngsters gain experience, they can only get better and there are one or two more knocking on the first team door. I expect we will be looking at another defender come the next transfer window and I trust this manager not to make the mistakes that Martinez and Koeman did and sign poor average players. I could make a big list of players who came and went sice Moyes was manager. Not many are still with us who remain in the first team. That says a lot to me. The current first team is mainly made of Moyes players, youth players or Silva players. Dare I say it. only 4 players from the 7 years of those 2 manager were in the team yesterday. Even Allardyce was here for the signing of Walcott and Tosun. Yes I feel the club is once again going in the right direction and we may lose a few games and we may only be a midtable side at present. but I was seriously worried we were headed downwards prior to Silva arriving. for the previous few seasons. Martinez did great to bring in Lukaku and Barkley did us well. But other than that, we had very little attacking threat brought in over the 7 years that he and Koeman were manager! Thank goodness we have Silva now.

Good post Degsy. It's good to have something positive to talk about isn't it? There will still be some more indifferent displays, setbacks but our prospects/ hopes compared to last year are so much better.

Do not worry Degsy, one slip and they will be back like a plague of locust.

From Day one I said give Silva time to bring his players and methods, no good judging a guy after half a dozen games.

Still say we made the right choice in Silva, couple more transfer windows to sort out at least.

But what I do Like is the at least two players for every position, rather than playing a player out of position.

Injury’s and suspensions have forced Silva hand, once we are up to speed I think we are in very good hands with Silva and Brands, not forgetting Moshi.

I agree about numbers bignev but its also not just about numbers. It's also about quality in numbers. Martinez had numbers but signed so many average players. and a couple of decent ones. Koeman signed a lot of dross if we are honest. I should really have posted this the week before last when a few disbelievers were slagging us for losing against West Ham. Then see how West Ham turned over Man Utd yesterday! The Premiership is a tough old league and West Ham at full strength have some great players. I think we should have gone for that Yarmelenko feller!

Great post Degsy. The signs of improvement are definitely there. Richy being back from suspension gives us an edge that was sadly missing for 3 games. He holds the ball up well and he runs at defenders which they don't like. Him and Digne look a good pairing on the left, and if we start converting more of the chances we are creating and get Mina fit and bossing the defense I can only see us getting better as the season progresses. In Silva We Trust COYB!

I was in Turkey 2 years ago and met an Evertonian of similar age to me. He is suffering some health problems as we all do as we get older. On the beach his missus came over with an Everton Mint. He had taken them to Turkey and sent her over because he knew I was a Blue! What a magic moment. The guy is still suffering and I and he are both going back to Turkey for holidays soon. I hope he has an amazing time and me too. But once a Blue always a Blue. You guys know what I mean. Once a Blue always a Blue!

Fantastic stuff Degsy. I haven't been on here a lot recently but when I have I've enjoyed your renewed sense of optimism this season. You and I have clashed in the past over various things but it's great to see that a lot of Blues, yourself included can see that we are moving in the right direction.
