The one post I agree with 100% is that it was ridiculous to sell Mori for such a low fee when we knew that Williams was to be shipped out (he wasnt good enough anyway) Jags is now 36. Keane's form has been attrocious and Holgate still only 21. My post stated that center back is the most important position to fill. We as a club have neglected that position, and I don't mean this transfer window. I mean since we sold Stones! We may score loads of goals this season. but for sure we will conceded loads too. Watch how confidence slips away when we do! That is why last season Unsworth and then Allardyce were brought in. I am not saying we need to do that again. I am saying we need 2 center halves and they should have been here last season!

Silva must be able to see the need - he couldn’t have missed it today. At least one CB and a number 6 required to sure up the defensive unit.

We do need 2 centre halves Degsy but selling Mori was not ridiculous.
I'm not sure which Mori you think was going to turn up this season but normally players don't improve after an injury like that, and he was pretty poor before.

I’m not so sure we can say we neglected it. We signed Keane and loaned malanga- we bought Williams and we had hollgate and Browning coming through - all this since stones left. Unfortunately Williams and Keane have been bad signings - on paper they looked good but have not worked out.
Didn’t help hollgate that Coleman and Baines were not fit and Kenny and coco were not the same standard / experience.
I’d like to think the club have learnt from selling lakaku and not having a replacement - surely they must have something lined up as Keane and hollgate are our only centre half’s - jags is finished I’m afraid.
I think we need 2 - Gibson off to Burnley - do u think we may have one of theirs lined up in the background?

Maybe we'll get one quality CB to replace Mori. I don't think Pennington is going to make it but, and it's a big but, I'd rather see him on the team sheet than Williams so if we have to go with that then so be it. At least Williams wages are off the bill.

Smit666 its about having fit, able players within the right age group. Mori might not have been brilliant. but can you argue that what we have left is better? Or are you like me hoping we get 2 center halves in asap? Because that is terrible if you think about it. The spine of the team coming in 5 days before kick off. We have already experienced late signings at Everton in the past and they hardly ever hit the ground running. that's why our neighbours did their business early as do most successful clubs. I fear we will be mid table at best. but hope that we don't start lake last season when we also made 5 last minute signings!

I sort of agree with you about the signing of Keane and Williams. but Williams was already on his last legs. and yes Keane has not lived up to expectations. but to expect Holgate and Kenny to be able to step up last season is crazy? Both are only 21 years old. Last season they were 20 and it was clear that they had insufficient experience. Re Malanga. yes that was unfortunate. but that's why you should have back ups like Mori or Williams. We "got rid" (I hate that expression ask Ed 002) and now find ourselves in the position of having one center back in his prime (Keane) . One center back who collects his pension before arriving and one who leaves nursery school before arriving. Playing against world cup stars and we are Everton. I have honestly never ever experienced us in this position and I am older than Jags! By nearly 30 years!

Degsy, we need 1 but ideally 2. It doesn't matter to me when in the window they come in as long as the new management don't just buy for then sake of it.
We have seen lots gone already, Mawson, Gibson and Evans. But if we really wanted them then we could have had them, because the teams they have gone to are below us. So I'm going to trust that Silva has his s**t together and brands will get him what he wants.
