I don't understand the 70m price tag being mooted for Zaha. Crazy. This also seems like similar recruiting to last season. Plus I don't get the its not your money principle. Football is a bussiness aswell as a sport so I would like my football team to operate efficiently business wise as well. Plus the more you spend on one, the less you spend on the rest due to budget limits and financial fair play rules. Any cheaper suggestions?

Supply and demand blue-tit. Teams want him and Palace don’t want to sell him. They can ask for crazy money and someone is likely to pay it. How much would we demand for Pickford now if Man U of Real M came calling?

Why are you getting angry over speculation? We haven't bought anyone yet but you're already having a go at them. Chill and sit back. Enjoy the summer, have a drink and see what happens.

I can’t speak for everyone of course, but when fans say it’s not their money they are likely saying they trust that the club have ensured that the deal is an affordable one or else they would walk away.

£70 million for Zaha is wild I agree. Whether we can afford that and of course if the player wants to come to Goodison is another thing. Great player though.

And ignore FFP reg transfer fees and the tv money that we get makes it difficult to fail that part off ffp it's the wages side that stump clubs and we shouldn't be too worried reg that side either after the massive profit we made on Lukaku and the 100% profit on Barkley we should be just fine but that's not to say we will just offer daft money we still need to operate efficiently.

{Ed002's Note - The sale of Lukaku has nothing to do with wages.}

I love the player, wanted him when he left Man Who, it was Moyes who got rid, and we all know why?

Ed002: is it fair to say that in the case of Lukaku, he was ambitious for a Champions League club (and may have been “promised” a transfer if he gave Everton that final season) and the club was just being sensible and financially prudent by getting the best fee they could in the end for a player they couldn’t hold on to? I imagine he was offered big wages to extend his contract with Everton, but he wanted to go to a more likely successful club.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of promises allowing him to leave were made but he wanted to step up to the next level, and has done so. When he left there were a number of sides interested and Everton did well financially with the move. Staying at Everton was not going to be an option.}

Ed002: thanks for the reply. I wish Everton fans would temper their ambition with an understanding of where the club is at present in football’s “pecking order” - and realise how much time, effort, money, intelligence, determination (and luck! ) it will take until the club is at the level where Lukaku (and similar top players) regard it as a “step up”.

Of course it does ED02 we bought Lukaku for 25 million (I think) on a five year deal now reg wages FFP they are dictated by sponsorship money player sales ect now a players club value lowers each season so Lukaku 25 million on a 5 year deal his value to the club went down five million a year by the time we sold him his club value was 5 million and we sold him for 85 million which helps towards wages FFP I haven't just made that up as I listen to a financial expert who did a podcast on Evertons finances last year explaining ffp and how it works I'm not saying am a expert on it but I am correct aren't I.

{Ed002's Note - Nope. That is not how it works.}

BobbyC. It’s pretty much certain that the fans are aware of where our club lies in pecking order. That’s a bit self indulgent to post on a public forum almost as if you know more. It’s maybe more that we’d like to fight to keep a player like Lukaku probably in the same way that Moyes fought to keep Lescot but had to give up. I’m pretty sure Moyes didn’t lack understanding there. so maybe It’s not a lack of understanding but more hope springs eternal.

We will have Disagree on this one ED02 ha ha if you get a chance have listen to the blue rooms podcast the business matters section it's very informative and see what you think 👍👍.

{Ed002's Note - That means nothing to me. If he has said that is what determines wages in terms of FFP he is ignorant of the truth or teasing you.}

Well to be honest ED02 he is neither of those things and if you listen to the podcast he can explain it a lot better than I can I always get the impression that you don't like it if somebody disagrees with you as I said I have a rough idea how FFP works maybe it's you that's wrong.

{Ed002's Note - I know exactly how it works, my point was about Lukaku and wages. I will try and keep away from the Everton pages again. Not wort the grief for me.}

Not aimed at anyone in particular but surely if you ask an Eds opinion or input and he/ she gives it then the subject is done. What is the point in taking a bigoted approach just because someone disagrees with you. Move on. Losing someone of some of these Eds and their knowledge or insight is surely detrimental to this site. A banter, rumours site should be just that.

ktf1950 obviously aimed at me and WorcesterEFC I will answer both at the same time I won't tread on egg shells incase someone spits their dummy out and acts like a 5 year old who didn't get their own way he thought he was correct and I think I'm correct and because of that he spat his dummy out because I dared to disagree with him I see he didn't post my last comment and to me that shows you two have given him what he wants people will give me some abuse and be on his side again acting like a child as I said I know a little how FFP works and in this instance I believe I am correct now regarding asking advice tell me if you ask someone something and you know it's wrong maybe you will say yeah your right I am wrong well I am not that kind of fella as I'm not a yes man so why don't you both grow up.

You surely know by using this site that the information from the Eds is of the highest quality, otherwise you'd be on a different site instead.
So you thought something, Ed02 corrected you and you couldn't handle it, now you've lost us our best source of transfer information, making this site pretty invalid to us all.
I, like I'm sure others, have sometimes thought something that turns out to be wrong. It's a little embarrassing yes but suck it up and be thankful that someone knowledgeable has taken the time to correct you. Then next time it comes up over a pint with the lads you can reiterate the info and sound like you know your stuff.
Until the return of Ed02, I'm going to be giving a thumbs down to every one of your posts and not comment on any of them, regardless of what they say. Pointless and petty I know but hopefully it'll grate on you over time.

I can't hear a word you're saying Bluey79.

I did actually read up on it is not just a simple set of rules and it was because I like you thought I knew what I was talking about until ED002 educated me. However, unlike you I thought I would educate myself and read up about it instead of listened to twonk on a podcast.

You know what ED002 was right and I shut the hell up. You sound like you could do with a little education.
