Transfer Window
Frustratingly less than four weeks to go and Its like being in a sauna watching the sand pour through the timer, I think it may well be the next window when we see some real action . or next year! The list of names seems endless the signings a blank sheet . worried!

No worries mate, Marco and Marcel know what they are doing.

They might well do, but have they got the financial clout of our previous manager (s) doesn’t look like it . sell first buy later, is later too late?

I didn't want to come across negative but totally agree Jonno. The squad remains unbalanced and taking into account getting rid of player, we really need to get 3-4 in and gel them into the group before the season starts. The teams around us are doing it but as GB says, got trust in Marcel and Marco. I don't still be going all out for Tierney though.

A lot can happen in a short space of time. I for one would rather Silva take the week in Austria to assess who he is willing to let go. There’ll be no shortage of takers for the players we’d want to get rid of. The impression I get is that we have money but don’t want to end up with a huge squad. Stay calm, signings will come.

I still don't get this wave of optimism. Last season was a disgrace for a football club of our stature. The first 3rd of the season had us looking like certain relegation candidates. We sacked a manager, put another temporarily in charge and then brought another in to "stabilise" us. People can argue all they like about managers and coaches and the differences they make. My own view is that we were without Coleman, Jags and Baines for a lot of that period and only stabilised when they returned to playing regularly. Kenny and Martina were poor fullbacks defensively and attacking wise. Williams looked unfit and Keane lost confidence. Here we are a year on and so far have sold Rooney who contributed 11 goals and Mori who had been out injured but was a decent player previously if not the greatest. Our 2nd choice keeper has also now gone and rumour is that Leipzig have made another offer for Lookman who is rumoured to want to go? The new management have stated that we will sell some established players if we can. So far not a single new player although you can argue that some of the younger players will be better equipped for Premiership football now. We will see on that one. But the elder ones on big contracts who have been told they need to find other clubs will be hard to shift. Firstly, they moved their families to the area based on the big contracts they were given. Secondly, after their poor form last season, they are unlikely to be offered contracts as good as Everton gave them to get them to sign. so we may be stuck with them. and now they will be pretty cheesed off because they know they are not wanted. Yes I know this is a negative post again, but I try to look at it as someone with a little footballing knowledge and maturity to the point of an overall view rather than one with blue tinted glasses. Maybe its my age after seeing and hearing promises made season after season. only to be let down continuously? Either way, I do hope against hope that things will improve and we will make some great signings. but a month or so ago I posted with a similar post saying that nothing would happen until after thw World Cup player wise. I guess we will all know what we start with in 3 weeks time, but for now we start with the same squad as last season with a couple gone and the return of Jags, Baines and Coleman. fit at the moment but getting older each season. And a wave of optimism fro some supporters that I hope to be getting myself soon when we do kick off.

Its quite obvious to me that money talks in this league barring a miracle ie Leicester C, if you think we can compete in this league on a Championship budget think again . The owners at West Ham God bless them nearly got lynched last year . they are now spending like its gone out of fashion . we need to be cautious, yes, but we need some high class performers to lift the team and gel the younger players . most believed that the new Chairman would be able to lift us financially and he seems to have got cold feet judging by what we read and hear . yes poor transfer deals last year but he employed those people after all .

{Ed002's Note - I don't know who is feeding all of this nonsense to you but what Championship budget are Everton competing on? I would very much like to know.}

If it is believed that 24 mill is too much for the most promising left back, we are living in cuckoo land .

Further, yes we made signings that didn’t work out, just a quick look through other teams with similar or bigger budgets they have all bought players that have not adjusted to the Premiership and have been devalued .
For me its about getting a leader on the pitch, Peter Reid may not have been the greatest player (13 England Caps only) but what he did have, was a winning mentality he lifted the players around him by their bootstraps, if only we could find another like him .

{Ed002's Note - Tierney's long term future is not with Everton - at best they would provide a temporary home for him and clubs don't like doing that.}

I just don't understand why people can't get their heads around the statements that we have too many in the 1st team squad and we need to reduce that before we bring in anymore players. To me that statement means we will not be signing anyone until we have reduced the squad significantly. How quickly we can do that will be down to the management team but any transfers in during this window will be a massive bonus in my opinion.

{Ed002's Note - There seem to be a growing number of fans whoi just want to see transfers happening - it doesn't matter who they are of course, just as long as the club are spending lots of money.}

10.) 09 Jul 2018
09 Jul 2018 09:28:35
You’ve said it all Ed 002 as I was saying Championship mentality, sorry but look across the park if you dare, yes Champions league etc . but how much have they spent this Summer already? Now Utd are after Lanzano etc etc
We need to compete, Walcott and Tosun both stated they moved partly because we had Rooney on the books having players of his calibre is a magnet, that's another point .

Marco stated that he had some big names in mind in his first press conference, bring it on!

11.) 09 Jul 2018
09 Jul 2018 09:32:56
Wrong, we want to see some quality transfers. and they do cost lots of money and it certainly does matter who they are!

{Ed002's Note - Not at all - otherwise we would not be seing all of these nonsense posts from you. You expect everything to happen overnight as if it were a race. The club has been making a concerted effort to look to players who can improve the team, regardless of what they cost - but the squad needs a trim.}

Jonno just to clarify a couple of points with you.
1) Westham have so far spent a grand total of £32M in this transfer window, that includes taking in one player on a free.
2) Who is our new Chairman? I think you will find it is still BK.
I was going to say stop trolling but then thought you may actually be dumb enough to believe what you have written.

13.) 09 Jul 2018
09 Jul 2018 09:40:34
Overnight, no . too many years yes . It is a race, we lack quality, we lack players in key positions, we have under four weeks until the window closes
Nonsense posts . that's your opinion I.

I find it incredibly funny that I post about other people who have this over optimistic view (in my humble opinion) based on the new management team. Then people come on moaning about signings and money? I am not even saying the management team is not good. just that we are currently in the same position as last year. minus 2 good players. and with a couple of players being asked to perform at the end of their careers for yet another season. Our left hand side is weak and cover for defenders in general is poor. Of the defenders we have, none are top 6 calibre other than Coleman. That includes the cover we have: Keane, Williams, Holgate, Kenny, Martina and Baines are at best currently midtable players. Perhaps Keane, Kenny and Holgate will continue to improve, but none are top 6 calibre yet. Yet some fans continually berate me for saying things like this and then say everything is going to be ok because Moshiri and co will sort it. I really hope they do, but I see a squad based on a lot of right sided players. A lot of older established players and a lot of youngsters who as yet are not proven and when given a chance last season early on because of injuries to first team players crumbled under the pressure. I am sure Moshiri and co will make investment when they can but like in my previous posts, I say that shifting players out when they are on good contracts is not easy. and the management have said we cannot bring players in until others have gone. a sort of stalemete at the moment. I thik Ed002 will agree that moving players on is a complex and difficult task when the player is on a good contract and ageing. Rooney as an example. I believe both Man Utd and Everton are paying part of his wages. Ed has previously pointed out we are still paying the wages of 2 previous managers as well. This is not a good position to be in because a squad needs to gel and be happy. When you have older players hanging around for the financial benefits rather than hungry for success, it breeds discontent with other players. I think Silva has a huge task ahead and am not sure he is the man but time will tell and I sincerely hope I am wrong in my assessments. but what is important is that fans do not turn against the club if things start badly. like in previous seasons.

So negative, the previous managers bought and bought, without really selling anyone. We have a huge squad, and need to get rid of the dead wood.

We have a good side who are capable of finishing top 7, as proven last year when we climbed the table and with kids coming through we should be excited.

We're on the up.

Degsy the problem is we have too big a squad so we will try to sell players that will bring in money we will also have to let players go that may want to leave for their own reasons. I suspect both Rooney and Mori fall into these categories. in order to get us in a place were we can move forward the management will have to make hard choices that some fans will not like. I think the season will be a transition season but I still think we have a top 8 squad and do not think things will be as bad as you expect.

17.) 09 Jul 2018

I think you are right SA90 we have far too big a player base and need to get rid of excess baggage. It appears that some on this forum believe we need to get rid of players to finance new players coming in. That is not the case, we need to get rid of players because we have far too many. We have (reportedly) over 36 players, that is at least 10 more than can be included in our squad, why would we add to that? What do those players do? no wonder there are problems with more than 10 players sitting around with zero chance of first team football.
If the right player becomes available then I think funds would be made available. It is only fans who are saying we must sell to finance any new players, the same fans who are starting to ask why Marcel Brands has not yet found us the next footballing prodigy for less than a million pounds.
I feel a lot of fans will be questioning what is happening at the end of the season as many will be wanting results from the very start, whilst that will be nice I have the feeling it will not happen. The rebuild will take at least 2 seasons and possibly 3 and to me it looks as though we are rebuilding the backroom stuff first, this would be a great tactic if it is correct and makes perfect sense.
Oh well time will tell.

I read this post and started panicking, until I realised it was 4 weeks till the end of the window and not 4 hours. PHEW!
what will be will be. I trust brands and Silva and Moshiri so I'm not panicking, just enjoying the world cup.

{Ed025's Note - i think we all are smit mate..

Sensible post son of Grumpy.

Hypothetically we have say, 60 million to spend on 3 or 4 quality players. We rush out and buy 3 at 20 million each. Not bad eh?

Well, another scenario is. We have 60 million to spend on 3 or 4 players but we wait, all of a sudden we get rid of 5 or 6 recouping 35 million.
Now we have 95 million to spend on 3 or 4 players. And buy 3, 30 million pound players.
I know which one I'd prefer.
