He was a nice guy Roberto but anyone who claimed Aiden McGeady was "world class" is obviously delusional. He's done well for himself though on the international stage. Our attacking of teams was good to watch under him but if he only had a defensive answer then we'd probably still have him. He was a revelation in the first season but it got toxic at the end of his tenure.

I will give you that . But on another note how annoying is Rio Ferdinand he has to be the worst pundit for me on TV.

Given the players that Belgium have it does not take a great manager to do well with them. Maybe the appointment of Henry is the reason for there success.
I believe that Belgium will win the world cup but that does not make Martinez a good club manager.
Look at Coleman with Wales great with them but rubbish with a club.
They are different jobs completely and Martinez happens to have great players at the moment nothing to do with him.

Martinez is a good cup manager but not a league manager.

100% right there Smit. In a short competition like the WC with limited games there’s not much time to suss out a team. But in the prem his tactics become apparent and then exploited.

I will add that the players at his disposal are pure class so expecting similar results given time at Everton would be a little optimistic.

I think he is probably a very good coach. But I wanted him gone almost immediately because after Moyes's reign whereby we constantly signed good young players who were either in our 1st team regularly. or sold on for big profit, Martinez's reign started signing ageing players who just could not cut it. I don't know how much of a role the manager plays in signings, but is says something to me when our best 3 defenders are still Jags, Coleman and Baines. and Moyes went ages ago now. Moyes also bought a few other good defenders such as Neville, Oviedo, Mustafi etc. We have bought and sold defenders since that have quite frankly been poor. eg Alcaraz, Mori, Williams, Keane, Martina. Then look at the quality of players we have sold on from Moyes time. Fellaini, Arteta, Stones. Yes I know that Martinez bought Lukaku and I agree he was a great signing. but hardly any of Martinez's players now feature and these are mainly the ones we are trying to move on. I am not saying in this post that Moyes was great or anything. before people start on me. because like I say I don't know how much say the manager has in negotiations, but since his time our signings on the whole have deteriorated. Maybe something else changed? But no one can argue that we have a better squad now than when Martinez joined. Especially after he signed Lukaku.

Glenn Hoddle for me. Some of his comments, especially about Spuds players are comical.

Everytime I see your posts Degsy, aka David Moyes biggest fan, I think I've sat in a DeLorean and knocked the dashboard to 2013!

But tell me BJU which players we have signed who are better and either still with us or alternatively we have had good use of and then sold for big profit. Like I said in the post, I am not saying it is down to Moyse and likewise I am not blaming Martinez soley. But up until 2013 we regularly signed playes for 60 grand, 1.5 million, 2.5 million etc and then used for some seasons and sold on for huge profit. Since 2013 I only see that story in Lukaku. Perhaps Walsh? Perhaps others are to blame? But I am only stating facts.

I have done a billion times and even put all of the stats of one v the other. One of the ED's even told you about the finances of Moyes but you still chose to ignore it.

Can't you just leave these types of discussions and talk about something new. You sound utterly nutts. Like completely and utterly crazy. 🤪.

I remember I think ed001 pointing out that moyse spend was the equivalent to 5th but we finished 7th,6th,5th oh and lower. The money in the game has gone mental over the past half dozen seasons so buying someone 5 years ago and selling them after almost always shows some profit, even if they flop. This has to be taken into consideration when comparing transfer fees.

In reference to the punditry: I think both channels have some awful punditry but I really can’t stand itv. Don’t mind BBC as Lineker and one or two of the others (never Shearer or Jenas) normally talk sense but itv is normally a let down. Pougatch is good as the anchor as he did a great job on radio before but find the majority of the regular panel unbearable at times, especially Wright, Keane and Aluko. The rest seem ok but are let down by those few. Much prefer the views of players like Fabregas, Zabaleta, Scott and Drogba.

Agree with Dark Clouds, I am not the only one I know that has said consistently of Martinez (when Manager of our Club) that the man is a coach and certainly needed a DoF such as Brands. If that had happened who knows how we would have done. International Coaches already have proven National Talent to choose from.
