Carvalho handed in his resignation at SL, apparently. Think we’d have a good shout due to his links with Silva wnd asduming we can shift a few!

players cannot simply resign from a club and move elsewhere.

I think it’s a little more complex than a simple resignation.

Aye, I'd love to stay at a job where I'm being publicly chastised by the owner then being threatened, battered by the fans. Hold them against their will, Sporting, good on ya!

I'm not sure you understand the rules of employment as a footballer.

In a 'normal' job like your own, of course you can resign. But you don't get bought and sold, tied down to multi year contracts. Do you really think a footballer who was bought for say, 40 mil, can rock up into work and resign because he's not happy?

Under normal circumstances, no, of course not, but what’s going on at SL isn't normal.

There’s a difference between being “unhappy” and being threatened.

I assume the players are claiming SL as a club, has broken the terms of their employment contract, failing to protect players in the work place.
They were attacked by hooligans on the training pitch.

I'm of the understanding the players gave the club an ultimatum and now feel they had to follow through with their threats to not play again.

It's a funny one. I usually hate all this. Different to the Rangers Naismith deal. That still put our club in a situation where it oughtnt have been. But if any one of us normal folk was attacked by 30 ultras at work, I'm sure we'd likely do the same. If we can make these our players, and fairly. I'm all for it. If it means yet more rubbing clubs up the wrong way, we should probably be a bit careful it doesn't become a habit.

To be fair anyone can terminate a contract as long as they meet the conditions therein. We do not live (or at least not legally) in a slave society.

There will be laws in force to protect players and clubs. A club holding a player against their will when their wellbeing is at risk doesn’t sound right to me.

I’m sure those players looking to leave will put enormous pressure on the board to either sell cheap or terminate the contract.

In fact the contract probably has something in it to protect players from this circumstance. I have no idea though.

Couple that with them being able to hire the best lawyers in the business and I can’t see SL winning this one.

Yes Worcester but sporting failed to provide reasonable protection to the players which I assume the players are considering a breach of contract on safety grounds allowing them to break their contract although I would fully expect SL to argue against this so I wouldn't expect any of them signing for anyone else for some time.
