If NSNO is to be believed, then for me this is bordering on the ridiculous. Close in on Silva by all means if that is the Owner, his advisors and Boards agreement/ decision but for Gods sake study the blokes record in the Premiership and temper your contract offer accordingly. Having deep pockets Mr Moshri, does not mean signing Silva on an initial 5-6 year permanent contract. That is not business sense.

Is it not business sense? How about showing a statement of faith to the manager that he is backed. to the fans that he is a longterm vision after so many managerial changes recently. Perhaps it is great business sense if he is a stonking success, other teams want him and then he gets a significant compensation package for us due to the long term contract.
It's not your money, let Mr Moshiri spend it how he pleases.

{Ed025's Note - im with you worcester mate..

Just read something similar, DFS, and I'm thinking the same thing as yourself. Why, with Silvas record in the premier league, would you offer such a big contract? Especially with the cash FM has already splurged on managers since he came in. Crazy but it's his money I suppose!

Crazy or a stroke of genius? Time will tell I guess. My gut is telling me its the later :-)

A few things to consider:

Silva’s record overseas was very good before he came to the UK.

Hull we’re going down before he got there but, like Moore at West Brom, he came close to keeping them up by playing attacking football.

Poch and a number of others didn’t have any EPL pedigree before they came to the UK.

Moshiri may well have put clauses in his contract that say if you don’t finish in X position or higher you get Y amount in severance.

Finally:

He isn’t Sam Allardyce.

{Ed025's Note - that last bit made me smile mate..love it..

Looked after my money Worcester and Ed025, opinions are opinions and for me, I look at Silva's CV in the Premiership not in Micky Mouse leagues. Did he compete in the top Leagues of Italy, Spain or even France. I can only repeat if we are going down the route of having a DoF (Brands a man of experience and no mean success in the role) then it is not a Manager we are hiring but a Head Coach and that being the case a 5-6 year contract is reckless but if we are going down that road, doesn't a rolling contract make more sense. If Silva is as good as he or others think he is then a 1 year rolling contract is surely acceptable.

{Ed025's Note - to be honest im not sure how it works DFS, but continuity and commitment from both parties sounds the way forward to me mate..

What is it you how long he gets on a contract? And what message do you think it sends to both manager and player offering him a one year deal? We don't even know if he's getting a 5 or 6 year deal or are you part of the negotiations?

If your going to rant over him then keep it sensible. You sound like a baby throwing his toys out of the pram.

5 or 6 years does sound excessive and a very long time for a first contract. If it’s to be, then I’d expect clauses protecting the club from the obvious concerns a long contract can raise. As FM built his fortune on accountancy then I’d rather expect him to have any financial concerns addressed.

Having said that, I can see the benefits of showing a long term commitment to a manager who knows full well that we have had too many managers over the last few years.

Of course, this is all irrelevant if he wins games.

Would we all want pep or conte or pocchetino as our manager?
Ok so how would they have done and what position would they have finished with Hull and Watford?
Watford went through a bad run of games, but so did Koeman in his 1st season (10 I think) and still finished 7th. Difference being, Watford sacked him before he could turn it around.
Let's give him a chance guys.

bluejohnus, I got the information of 5 or 6 year contract from the illustrious NSNO. There really is no need for you to be so rude and insulting. Part of the reason why some of us take a break is those such as yourself taking a personal attitude. I thank you for reminding me why I left this board in the first place.

Sorry if you think I'm being rude and insulting but you just sound bitter because you want someone else other than Silva i. e. toys out the pram. Instead of judging him on his successes you are focusing on a tough job at hull plus a downturn in events probably to do with us at Watford.

It didn't seem sensible in your suggestion of a rolling one year contract as no-one in the EPL gets hired on a one year contract and would consider it as - well - a bit insulting.

NSNO I'm pretty sure are not part of the negotiations either but if it is that length of contract so be it. What does it matter?

Don't take it personal but I'm just rather direct. 😁.
