Hate to say it but rooney has been crap this season apart from a half a doz games maybe. Only Pickford, Coleman, Jags, Benny, Walcott, Gueye Niasse and Tossun and maybe Dom CL can take any credit this year?

I think that this is a little harsh on some and tells only half the story.
There are many players who have shown ability but, for various reasons, have no shown it consistently. The most obvious example would be Sigurdsson who has looked a player when played in his correct position. For me, other examples who have shown enough to indicate that there is a real player somewhere in there if given the opportunity are Klaasen who, before he was banished to the outer darkness, showed bits and pieces that indicated that, given the right context he can play a bit. Keane is another who, for me, has shown that he can play but has floundered and lost confidence in our team.
More concerning is what has gone on with the young players. A number of them seem to have had their development set back. Holgate, who showed a mixture of promise and rashness, seems to have been abducted by aliens. I would not be surprised to learn that Kenny and Davies are undergoing counselling after the trauma that they have been put through. Vlasic is another who has ability and no opportunity to develop it. Then there is Lookman. He makes some poor decisions but the guy can play. Poor lad has had to flee abroad and it wasn't Brexit related.

There was a thread on here when he first came back to us and the general consensus was it would be a good season for WR if he could score around 10 goals this season. He got there by December and, without the points that his goals gave us, we would be 8 points down. As of today, I think that would place us 13th in the league and a few quid down on what we receive from the prize pool.
He hasn't been consistent but that could be said of every squad member this season, they have all struggled at some point. If he stays another year then I would expect him to be on the bench a lot more than this year.
