I'm just wondering could we not of registered Garbutt for yesterday's game as Martina is doing his best but is not a LB.

sorry ED02 thought that was straight forward we have a player called Luke Garbutt who is 24 years old and currently plays for the U23s but Koeman did not register him as part of the squad I was wondering as we are struggling in that department as the registration opens on 1st Jan could we have not registered him for yesterday's game.

Previous posts had suggested that Garbutt could be added to our squad when the transfer window opened. I am guessing that BLUEY79 was asking if this is true Ed?

Yeah I wondered about that to. what are the rules on registration of players Ed? Are we allowed to register Luke Garbutt now with it being January?

how was silva able to play for Leicester on 1st of jan? i no not everton related but i remembered u saying new registrations couldn't play on the first so when i seen him play i was shocked.

I’m sorry to say but if garbutt can’t get a game at the age of 24 he is not good enough, we need to give up on this one it would of happened by now, lots of promise but clearly not a prem player, I still don’t understand why he is still here.

{Ed002's Note - Answering a previous post, Silva's registration was made already. It just wasn't registered in time. To avoid an issue Leicester asked the PL to agree this in writing and they did.}

I haven't seen anything from Garbutt to suggest he is premier league standard.

We need to buy someone for the position not a stop gap for me.

I haven't seen anything from Martina to suggest he is of a footballing standard, Garbutt has to be a better backup for Baines.

thanks for clearing that one up ed mate, and the only lb we have at our club outside of Baines who could play now is Robinson but he is put on loan so I think we should buy cover for that position in the next week's or recall Robinson.

NBTB: as a fellow member of the “Cowpat Sid Appreciation and Memorial Society”, I can inform you that we registered a full (that’s 25 players) aged-over-21 Premier League squad at the end of last Summer’s transfer window.
So, any additions this January would have to be balanced by omitting current squad members.
Interestingly, the squad included two youngsters - Gethin Jones (full back) and Sam Byrne (forward) - both of whom, I believe, have been out injured a lot of the time. Whether or not these two players will be in the revised January squad is a moot point - as is whether any previous absentees (such as Luke Garbutt) are added to it.
For the record, here’s the 25-player aged-over-21 squad:
Baines, Barkley, Besic, Bolasie, Byrne, Coleman, Funes Mori, Gueye, Jagielka, Jones G., Keane, Klaassen, Lennon, Martina, McCarthy, Mirallas, Niasse, PIckford, Ramirez, Robles, Rooney, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson, Stekelenburg, and Williams A.
Players such as Holgate, Kenny, Davies, Baningime, Vlasic, Lookman, and Calvert-Lewin, are aged under 21 and therefore don’t have to be named in the full squad.

NBTB: I imagine that the inclusion of Gethin Jones was to give additional cover for Coleman’s injury absence. The inclusion of Sam Byrne was probably because we didn’t sign a forward. Both inclusions seem to be last-minute decisions to fill all 25 squad places. How ironic that Jones and Byrne seem to have been injured for a lot of this season.
As for Garbutt, his exclusion is a mystery to many fans, but the coaching staff have obviously analysed his progress on-loan and his U23 performances and his day-today training, so have made their decision. Such a pity, as he looked promising a few years back, but seems not to have developed well enough.

sad to see luke not getting the chance, but maybe come the next registration he may become available or we may look to seeing what the younger robinson can do who wouldn't require registration.
