Jags was my man of the match, Schneiderlin what a buy, Barkley seemed to be everywhere, well done Everton joy to watch,

It's a pitty Barkley is holding back on his contract, what's up with him now Eds?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anything wrong with him - although being threatened by the idiot of a manager will not make him happy.}

2.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 10:07:32
not a fan of rk then ed.

{Ed002's Note - I am not a "fan" of any managers. Koeman is an absolute idiot to threaten his player in the public domain.}

3.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 10:31:17
Was a strange thing for RK to say.

4.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 13:15:25
What was strange. If ross doesn't sign a contract he might be sold. Is that not an obvious thing to say. If players don't sign contracts then they are sold on while you can still get what their worth. I don't see anything wrong with the comments RK made.

5.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 14:11:13
Absolutely.

6.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 11:06:02
Far to sensitive some of you. All Mr Koeman said was, 'There is a contract and there are two possibilities, he signs or does not sign, so then he will be sold'. No threats there and nothing strange said. The lad's contract runs out next summer, why let it run down and he goes for nothing. We have a good Manager (at last) with a good back room staff in support. All I have heard from Mr Koeman so far is common sense.

{Ed002's Note - No, it is a threat and should not be said in the public domain.}

7.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 11:09:37
Nice on Ed say it how it is, but who would you have in charge then? Your right you shouldn't highlight someone who is in your team, you just blame the lot if there under achieving.

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing wrong with Koeman - just that he should not discuss such matters in public.}

8.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 12:02:30
Good Manager, who speaks an awful lot of common sense.

9.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 13:57:50
Absolutely agree Blueray. If Ross or any other player prefers not to accept their terms of employment then the club has every right to move them on just like employers do out there in the real world. Labelling a manager who had the honesty to point out this simple truth an "idiot" sounds rather arrogant to me. I'll trust RK thanks.

10.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 14:48:29
Agree. As I said, common sense.

11.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 18:19:32
I'm on the fence. I honestly think he wants Barkley out and thus discusses it in public. It's not the same discussion for Rom or the same threats.

I'm a fan of Barkley but I'm not the manager and if he wants someone else in his place then so be it. Barkley also could put it all to bed if he wants to stay by signing the contract. That's nothing to do with Koeman or his comments. So I assume he wants to go just like Rom.

{Ed001's Note - if he wanted to go, then Koeman would not have said what he said. He was trying to cause this exact scenario and making Barkley look like the bad guy. It is unfair as it is not as cut and dried as 'he should just sign the contract'.}

12.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 18:54:40
I have worked with the Dutch for years and they just say it as it is. he is not threatening anyone he is just stating the obvious. We have got to stop pussy footing round and become a club that means what it says. Its a no-brainer if he doesn't sign we have to sell him.

{Ed002's Note - Fine - piss off the players and cause embarrassment to the club as much as you like.}

13.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 19:26:58
Ed002 do you know if Barkley has actually been offered a new contract or are the club and Barkley's agent just in the discussion stage?

{Ed002's Note - He has been offered a contract and it is being considered.}

14.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 18:56:17
I don't really see the problem in RK making this public. It is not the same situation as Rom is in as Ross only has one year left on his current deal. If he refuses to sign what has been offered then, rather than lose him for nothing, the club will look to sell him. It's not painting RB out to be a bad guy, all players keep their options open for as long as they can in the modern game. RK is just being honest, nothing wrong with that for me.

15.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 20:17:55
Maybe that's how you see it ed but i don't see it like that. When asked about Ross he said there are two options. He signs and stays or he doesn't sign and might be sold. Its a simple reply to journalists trying to cause a sensation by saying Koeman has laid down an ultimatum. No ultimatum there just basic cop on.

{Ed002's Note - No, the response should be that "we won't talk about contracts". If Everton are to do their business in the public domain you will quickly have very pissed agents and players.}

16.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 20:24:55
Not an ounce of embarrassment at all, just a dose of reality.

17.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 20:46:55
I'm with Ed002, the manager should do media appearances to discuss the relations on the pitch and leave negotiations to the club am deathly players agents. Steve Walsh is DoF and I thought he was brought in so the manager can just manage and stay out of negotiations, so maybe it's better if RK does that, and whilst he's at it stay off Twitter too. We are fans and most of us are aware that if a player isn't in his final year then the likelihood is to sell rather than risk losing the player on a free, we get it, keep the business of the club behind closed 🚪.

18.) 10 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 22:52:59
So what you are saying is it is ok for agents to stir up players, wind up loyal supporters and management, by engineering moves. But the club should not state the blatantly obvious that if a player has a year or left on the contract and has not indicated that he wishes to sign a new deal it is in the clubs best interest to sell.

{Ed002's Note - What do you think his agent has done? You seem to just be making this stuff up.}

19.) 11 Apr 2017
10 Apr 2017 23:22:20
ED001 you may be right. I'm no expert like most on here. I suppose I'm looking at it from most people's perspective. You get offered a contract and if you want to do it then you sign it. If not you go somewhere else. I guess football is different.

As for the whole saying it in public. I'm not a fan of it. I've done high level management courses and this isn't the way I would tackle a situation like this.

Again maybe football is different. Alan Sugar is pretty similar as well and how he hasn't been dragged through tribunals by acas God only knows.

More evidence of how out of touch football is, is Rom showing a lack of respect to his employer with his own outspoken comments. It seems diplomacy is not common place in the football community.

{Ed001's Note - football has truly lost sight of the real world sadly.}

20.) 11 Apr 2017
11 Apr 2017 00:00:34
I agree Ed, I know Ross only has a year left but Ronnie is not saying the same about Lukaku sign or leave, it is coming across as Ron is not bothered whether Ross signs or not, saying it in public is a no no.

21.) 11 Apr 2017
11 Apr 2017 00:03:18
None of Barkleys representatives nor Barkley himself have made any statement to the press regarding his contract situation, that is maybe because it is the business of the club and the player, not the club and the press.
Everton were always the club who kept things behind closed doors and that I respected, that's why I don't agree with this statement by the gaffer singling one players situation out. Maybe look at it another way, other clubs now know that if Ross hasn't signed say by late August, then the club will be desperate to sell if what RK is saying, so they can offer less than the realistic value. The gaffer has shown his cards to prospective buyers and if he does want out then his agent can just sort out the deal with other clubs on the sly and get them to hold out bidding until late August, to get a cheaper price and doing us out of money by other clubs knowing that we want to sell if no contract is signed, so do we all still agree that this is the way forward? Airing our business in public, me personally I don't.

Ed02, I was genaralissig about the power of agents in the modern game. They effectively hold clubs to ransom to get want they or their player wants. Too much money in the game nowadays, has brought in greed and players thinking they deserve £XXXX when not prepared to put the effort every game. You just have to look at practically every premier league club. Arsenal, Leicester Manchester United, etc etc.

{Ed002's Note - You would need to be more specific - agents have a job to do and largely they get on and do it. A few are very pushy, and some exert very significant powers (for various reasons). I am not really sure what point you are trying to make but it sounds like you are generalising all agents in to the few which do have significant power - and that is really a very tiny amount. Some of the so called "super agents" get involved in such dealings as the sale of clubs and the brokering of meetings between clubs and potential investors. Although not a problem in the UK, there are other agents and representatives who have gotten involved with the darker side of the game and what is the exploitation of children - perhaps if you are interested the al Bangura tale from this guy who has published a book on the exploitation of youngster in football. There has been quite a big deal going on in Belgium about it for a three years or so. Investigations are on-going in Spain which has the Cotonou Agreement where African and Caribbean players are not counted against non-EU quotas so there is a periodic influx of Africans, often young and from poor families.

I could tell you a lot of footballer/agent stories but don't have time. However, two quickies you might enjoy. (a) a Premier League player who couldn't drive had his agent organise the purchase of an expensive car that was rolled out of the garage when he was visited by the press etc. for interviews, demanded the car was replaced a year later with the latest model in a different colour. He still couldn't drive - but it was image. It had a couple of hundred miles on the clock. (b) a northern-based Premier League player who had put clothes in a washing machine but had no idea how to turn it on repeatedly rang his agent in the South East for instructions on how to use it. This was eventually solved by the agent persuading someone at the Worsley Park Marriott to send a housekeeper (or similar member of staff) around to his house to do his washing and instruct him and his girlfriend in the use of the machine. I will say that both players involved are English.}

My all time favourite football story of stupidity is the whole Yaya circus that went on around his birthday.

The poor player was that badly looked after he didn't get a birthday present from Man City.

Imho the press are doing a fantastic job because plenty of people are talking about will Ross stay or go and its only April. They will reap the rewards until something is done.

Ed002 sounds as though some premier league players just need their Mummy to cook andclean for them. But as funny as your stories they don't really surprise me that they contact their agents for every little thing 😂.

{Ed002's Note - You are right Joe.}
