Like Fonte, think he is a solid defender. But at 33 are we just looking short term here, and if so would we really get value for money at 12m. And if we did get him that would give us a back four where three are 30plus.

If like we think Jags is finished and Mori isn't prem material then what happens if Williams gets injured we need experienced cover alongside Holgate. Makes sense if he's not too expensive.

I agree with Smit666 on this one. I said it myself last week in the rumours page. Williams gets injured we are goosed.

Not that I'm panicking for players. Only sign if they improve things is my philosophy. Fonte would do that for me.

It looks like we will have a shot at Keane in the summer so Williams, holgate, Keane and fonte pretty good player rotation there for next season if you ask me. A nice mix of youth and experience which should see us through the next 2-3 years.

Distin was signed at 32 and stayed for 6 years. Who knows how long Williams or Fonte will last?

NBTB it's all well and good but they can only get slower mate. One to two seasons max, then we have to have a plan b.

That's all here say Twoold2. £27m and Bolasie out for 18 months. No one can for see these things. Fonte is quality with very little risk. Would improve things. Williams gets injured then we have an inexperienced player, a more or less finished player and a player who hasn't entirely proven himself worthy yet.

Not exactly a rock solid central defence, is it?

What happened to Foulds, Browning and Galloway? Are they not 3 up and coming centre backs on top of Holgate. That makes 4. So we go out and buy more of them?

You can foresee players getting old though mate. Would have thought this season would now be the perfect opportunity for blooding youth, if good enough of course.
