This is sort of football related or very football related depending your point of view. I in no way wish to open any old wounds with this post that is not my intention.

I was reading a report in the Echo regarding " The total eclipse of the Sun" with over 100 shops in the city backing the campaign. Now Ross Barkley and the Mayor have added there support to it.

Personally I support it and wish every town and city in the country would boycott the paper but that will never happen. I support it for 2 reasons the first being the way they reported (lied) the event and the total disrespect shown to those who so tragically lost their lives, and secondarily on how the paper portrayed scousers in general.

How do you all feel regarding the campaign to ban the Sun newspaper within Liverpool? Do you support it or do you think the time has now come to forgive and forget? I have found throughout my lifetime that being a scouser I have always found it in me to forgive it comes as naturally as coming out with something humorous at apt times, But when it comes to the Sun, I am sorry but, still after all these years I can not find it in my heart to forgive them.

I would genuinely welcome your views regardless of what they are.

If you put aside Liverpool the club and city. What that paper did was utterly disgusting and wrong on every level. Why anyone in this country would want to have a paper that could write what they did and so easily have been about Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds or anyone is beyond me.

The papers have a privilege in report the truth on real life events not lies in order to make money.

To give you an idea. I was asked a few questions aboutwhen Rooney left. I gave my name and employment and said he should stay at the club he loves and loves him.

The paper got my name right but my job wrong and said he should move to a bigger and better club to further his career.

Papers will always write what they want to write.

As for this paper? Absolutely boycott it. Not because of what they wrote about friends, family or fellow scousers but because they wouldn't know truth if it came up and kicked them in the bollocks.

I was taken in at first by the Sun. On the Hillsborough tragedy and the miners' strike. I used to be sort of center in politics and thought "left wing" was either for Jonny Morrissey or troublemakers. As I have got older, I can see the truth in certain matters and believe me, I do not like being misled or lied to. I would still use the Sun. when I am out of toilet paper or to light the fire. both with a smile on my face!

Fully agree BJU but had it been Man Utd and the mancs would it of been the same story? I have often wondered that. It's difficult to take the City and LFC out of the equation when trying to form an unbiased thought of the events.

Degsy it is so easy to be taken in by the press when we are vulnerable. The Sun abused it's right on so called impartial reporting. That day ALL scousers were hurt twice, Once by the tragedy and again by the Sun's reporting of it.

I never buy the Sun it is a crap newspaper in my view, however, I believe in the freedom of people to read what they want and some people do buy this rag and it is there right.
Not buying it because of Hillsborough I fully understand, but if this is so then we should not buy German goods because they bombed are city to bits in the war.
My mum god rest her soul allways would have nothing knowingly German in the house, nor would she read the sun, but we must move on in live I believe.

Struggled to answer this one. On balance I don't think the city should ban the paper. I think it would do more harm to the reputation of the people of Liverpool than good.
What the Sun did was abhorrent however, how many of the employees still work there? McKenzie last time I heard was a columnist and he in my view certainly has culpability even though he pleads innocence. If you think Murdock is to blame as the owner of the paper then you really should boycott all the products he supplies. I personally won't be buying the Sun again but I think everyone should be left to make up their own minds. In my opinion it would be much better for everyone just not to buy it through choice.

You make a really good point there Milomj but it only leads on to when is enough time for us to forgive and forget?

SA90 I have got to be honest I have never looked at it this way before especially the part it could do more harm than good to the City is especially relevant, we could in fact be tarnishing the very thing we are trying to honour. It's certainly given me food for thought.

Just don't bother buying it, same as the Mirror etc! all comics based on fiction and lies. Journalists are products of a University system whose lecturers in some subjects are no better than our Politicians and that is people who have no idea about the real World.

Sky and the s*n only report what they like knowing it will sell there products. have noticed a lot of people wearing both our city's colours going on the cheapy holidays the paper supplies. i never have bought the paper and rarely buy the kopite echo and the manc mirror, people must be allowed to make there own choice and not like some who have victimised readers. The s*n was proved as a compulsive liar and most won't forget.

The Sun is owed by News of the World (I think they are called) this company own 85% give or take of news paper brands (sun, mirror etc) in the uk. The owner of NOTW is Rupert Murdock who also owns Sky. So he can basically print what he wants. The Sun may sell papers in other areas well but not so well in Liverpool but the slack in sales, in Liverpool, is just taken up through other newspaper brands that NOTW own. People like him need to be disembowel imo. So to boycott the Sun would mean boycotting every other NOTW branded news paper. Its hard to know what to believe these days, every news outlet has there own agenda to sway the beliefs of the majority to serve higher purposes.

{Ed007's Note - It isn't NOTW mate, Murdoch's media company was called News International but changed to News UK after the NOTW hacking scandal. News UK is a subsidiary of Murdoch's American media conglomerate News Corp. They also own FOX TV over in the states, their news is legendary for misleading the public for years - just like Sky News and Sky Sports News which is basically a 24/7 advert for their gambling wing.}
