I for one am not to convinced that Ronald Koeman was the right choice for us. we were in the best position for years to get ourselves a great manager and think we might have missed out . Now before you all start shouting me down, I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

And I do hope I'm wrong and will hold my hands up if I am, but must admit I have not seen many posts on here agreeing with me, but I will keep this post and re post it in January and hope I'm wrong.

Every manager, just like every new player, is a gamble. That said, of those available he is, at least on paper, the best manager we could have got, and in terms of quick results we shold be prepared to cut him some slack. I know it's a no no, to discuse Martinez, but that man did so much damage to our club, it may take a season just to repair the mess he left behind.

I do like Koeman as a manager, but I still have a tiny nagging disappointment that we had to head hunt him and coax him with money. I would have preferred someone who actually wanted the job in the first place, rather than had to be talked into it. That said, I think Koeman is better than De Boer. And certainly a step up from our previous manager. I do believe that Mr Moshiri has a very promising plan, though which must have been a factor in winning Koeman over.

Skylark, who was your choice?

I do share some of your concerns Skylark but Koeman I believe was the best of the potential candidates we had. There was no one else better and he is a big improvement on our last manager.

He seems proven in the premiership with Southampton. I hope so anyway as the team recovered from loosing a lot of players well. Hopefully this recovery was down to Koeman rather than the scouts which some believe.

I also share the disappointment of Koeman coming mainly because of money. Doesn't look like he's passionately involved. Say you want about Martinez and I said plenty of negatives, he felt privileged to manage Everton.

These minor concerns don't get in the way of choosing Koeman. No manager is perfect and will bring some negatives no matter how good he is. Some didn't even want Mourinho as they thought he is not good for the long term development of the clubs players.

I believe Koeman was the right appointment and was the best possible manager we could of got at this time. The concerns I have I hope don't develop. Time will tell I guess.

I Don't believe Koeman did come for the money, after all he is worth millions in his own right.

It is now well known that Southampton wanted him to sign another contract which he refused to do, this was before we had gone in for him, Southampton had apparently told him that working his final 3rd year with them before signing a new contract was not an option. Agreed we have only heard this from Koeman himself and only after he joined us, so it may be that he has started off with us by telling us few lie's. personally I doubt he is.

The money he has been offered is surely just the icing on the cake and there a lot of other things that made him come to us.

I have made it no secret that I would of preferred Pelligrini but now accept that maybe Koeman is the right choice after all.

{Ed002's Note - It is fundamentally correct - he was contract for a year and even though they cannot say it is not an option - they wanted a commitment and he wasn't prepared to do that.}

the amount of good to quality players that have left Southampton during Koeman's time is worrying of me.

I don't believe that saint's board hired koeman as manager to be a feeder club.

Koeman didn't stay because of the ambition of the club. Already they are prepared to sell their best players.

I'll be honest and say I'm amazed at seeing this post. I couldn't give two shits about skylark and his bud down the pub. Can we not get some positivity?

The fact you WANT to repost this in January makes me feel sorry for you and wonder why you even bother.

I'm going to get back to SUPPORTING the manager and players.

I didn't expect us to get Koeman, what with Southampton's reluctance to let him speak and his own statement saying he was staying on the south coast, and was leaning more towards MP. I can't profess to know too much about our new manager and the way his teams play. I've heard rumours, good and bad, about his managerial style but there is no way of knowing which ones are true. The amount of cash thrown at him to take over us was undoubtedly a decisive factor in his u-turn over staying where he was, only a fool wouldn't listen when such figures are dangled in front of them.
We can only judge him by what he does for us, the slate is wiped clean for him and the players as they adapt to the way he wants to play. Suppose what I'm saying here is that let's just give him a chance to settle in and get the season under way before we start grumbling about him. It's an exciting time to be a blue.
