What is everyones opinion on Oviedo?
hes been injured for a large portion of his time with the club but when he's played he's shown glimpses of excellence (such as the goal and run of form a couple seasons back when we beat united)

BUT, he is around 26 now believe and his main position is LB. givent he fact we have Baines, Garbutt, Galloway and Oviedo do we think he is taking up one of the 25/ 26 bodies in the first team?

i think garbutts 21/ 22 now so he has to be registered if he wants to play 1st team. Galloway can pass as he's under 21 but that still leaves us 3 players who will want game time.

Yes, we could do with someone pushing coleman for the RB spot but we saw how Oviedo played at RB during the occasional game last season when coleman was out. arguably the worst player on the pitch for some of those games.

Think he has had his time mate. There is obviously no room for sentiment in this new Everton. Looks like when your past it your gone. So not holding out much hope for Brian. As you said we have enough left backs.

Brian's been a great servant and I wish more players had his attitude and enthusiasm, but since his return from injury, he's lost a lot of pace and is understandably a lot more cautious going into a tackle. Kind of reminds me of Arteta's decline after he came back from a long injury. Never what he once was. Sad to say that I think Brian may be moved on as we seem to be spoiled for choice with talented left backs. He has occasionally put in a decent emergency shift as a left midfielder, but it's more likely that that position will be filled by a much needed new signing for that position. I'll always regard him fondly for that goal against united, though.

I'd keep him. How many seasons has Baines left?

Oviedo is also a very good left midfielder / winger. Good squad player at least imo. Not sure on Garbutt. Would he be much or any better than Oviedo? I hope he would be but not sure.

I think Brian is a good LB but not a great one and he's the same as a LM. He's helpful as a utility player but not as a mainstay first team player.

I'd keep but I'd feel selfish doing it. For his own career he should move.

Baines more than likely gone within 2 years. Galloway more than likely moved to centre back in the same time frame. And if Garbutt doesn't improve what are we left with?

Nothing, we'd need a LB then. I'm not saying that is definitely going to happen but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it did. Garbutt is the only one I see playing LB beyond 2 seasons apart from Oviedo.

Why sell Oviedo?

I mean, why sell Oviedo now and have to sign one or even two left backs one or two seasons later?

I agree with what your saying NBTB, Barnes is losing his legs more and more each season and of course after his 6 month or so injury last year are we likely to see a decline like we have with many many players? I hope not.

I thought Galloway was arguably our best LB last season when he played. Dominated the role, played confidently given his age and lack of experience. Even chipped in an assist or two.

I heard Garbutt played poorly for Fulham but I've never seen the lad play so I don't have much of an opinion on him. But he was pretty highly rated and we seemed to do a lot to keep him at EFC last season when he wanted the Bournmouth move.

I believe Antonie Robson (who I think is the U19 Captian) is a LB. I'm sure over the next 2 years we will have more youth pushing for the role. The question will be whether Oviedo, or whoever our LB may be, will be good enough for the first team.
