In response to Blueliam and spudv below commenting on Baines. You both have obviously misunderstood what I said about Baines.

Blueliam are you seriously suggesting that a player in decline is the same thing as the player is past it? That maybe how you see things but it certainly is not the way I see things.

I can only speak for myself and I don't like when people try to speak for me. Blueliam if I wanted to say Baines was past it I would of said Baines was past it.

In fact I stood up for Baines when people were writing him off while he was injured and when he returned. Heard plenty of people saying Galloway should not be dropped and Baines should not get back in. I totally disagreed with that at the time. People were saying Baines was past it. I totally disagreed with that also.

Why would I say that and then now post Baines is past it when he done fine since his return?

I'll explain the difference imo in a player being in decline and a player being past it. If you think they are the same thing I have no problem with that, as I said I can only speak for myself.

Every player as they get older get better with experience. They reach their peak and then go into decline until they are past it. Now in my book when a player is past it he's finished. A player in decline could go for years before he's finished.

Take Rooney for example he is past his peak imo and is in decline. At the same time I think he could do a job in EPL for the next 2 - 3 years and by then will be past it or maybe he'll be able for more.

Lukaku is an example of a player who hasn't reached his peak imo. Generally players hit their peak at late twenties. Vardy is another example at the moment he is at his peak imo.

Rooney was a top class players and a player like that in decline is still better than some other players at their peak. Its very individual imo.

If you still think a player in decline is a player past it that's fine. I don't see things that way and hope to see Baines having a few more seasons with Everton as he is a quality player who should be respected and appreciated accordingly.

I never meant anything else in my comments just that he is past his peak.

I don't think Baines is past it or even in decline. he's coming back from an injury so will take time to get back to full fitness.
He's the best left back at our club now and has been for a few years now. He brings much more than Oviedo and Galloway (centre half) do to the team.
His eye for a long forward pass is one of the best at the club and his assists from left is the best in the league. His defending is not on the same level as his forward play but he makes up for that in other deartments.
Maybe Garbutt will develope into a good player but at the minute Baines us an automatic starter (when fit) .

Not too sure why you feel the need to bring me into this? I told you I wasn't talking specifically about you although you did mention he is decline. I disagree with that, the lad is coming back from a long lay off and is a bit rusty.

I apologise spudv. It was more directed at Blueliam. He got personal. You didn't. Fair enough you don't think he's in decline. As I said before I'm not pushing my opinion on you. I almost always agree with your posts. Have a lot of the same views on things as you. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
