I understand being realistic, but I feel that many everton fans lack optimism. Yes Arseanl are in a better position than us for the 4th spot, but that does not make it an unrealistic aim. We have a game in hand over them agianst Crystal Palace, a very winnable game at that. In my opinion that's a possible 5 point gap bewteen us and Arsenal. that would leave us with 8 games to close that gap and go ahead. It is difficult and on the balance of probabilities we are certainly more likely not to get it than we are. I believe that the next two fixtures are vital. A win against newcastle is a must, and if we do we head into the game against Fulham(which is another very winnable game) with a 5 point gap at the most(obviously depending on Arsenal's result against swansea) whilst Arsenal have a very difficult game against City. Yes there are many if's and but's but there always is and it works both ways in that we could either be in a bad position, the same position or an excellant position, for 4th spot in the next two games. Stay realistic by all means but come on, have a little faith and optimism. I also think the extreme high of Martinez's early start combined with the contrast of styles between him Moyes have set too higher expectations for fans and now things have slowed optimism has reduced. The tides can change quite swiftly.

I am looking optomistically saying we are looking good for 5th spot, but if results go our way then 4th is not out of reach. Arsenal have games where they could lose points as do we, but the games that are going to be pivitol in this run in are all at home to Manchester United and Arsenal in particular but also last home game against man city. Arsenal's big games are also at home apart from their meeting with us, and from their run in you would expect them to win if on form, but let's hope the stuffing they received at the weekend knocks the wind out thier sails and they start slipping up starting against swansea!

Good post Craig and I agree. 5th is realistic (though 4th would be a dream) and much will be decided in the next 2 games are 'must wins' if we are to achieve CL. The return of Jags in central defence will be crucial and will bring back some confidence to the back four. No disrespect to John Stones who's come in and done a job but the the return of our captain should be enough to see off both Newcastle and Fulham.
