Would a Pan-European club league (or even a worldwide league with Chinese and South American sides) inevitably lead to the diminution or maybe the demise of nation-state competitions like the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euros?

It seems that the clubs on either side of the Pan-European League debate have too many vested interests - especially financial - for this to be solved amicably. Once the "top" clubs form their cartel - and as long as the broadcasters are getting value for money (subscribers, advertising, etc. ) - then that'd be that. I suspect that the financial lure of the huge Asian market will outweigh the tradition and fans' wishes of the smaller European market.

On a different tack (and, for the sake of argument, forgetting about a possible European League) , are there any genuine moves to create a "British League" (involving Celtic, Rangers, etc., along with English clubs) ; would that league be the top of a pyramid system with promotion and relegation (as is the Premier League currently) ; would it reduce the number of British teams in the UEFA club competitions; would the national teams merge into one Britain team for the World Cup, etc. ; would the English, Scottish, Welsh Football Associations be merged into one single association by FIFA and UEFA; would Irish football (north and south of the border) most likely be merged into a single association and league (maybe aligned with a British pyramid system) even though the political divide still exists?

Bobby looking at ed002 reply earlier there may be a case for the total demise of both FIFA and UEFA in the long term with national leagues being total restructure in different regions. A lot of this of course is linked to the economical fortunes of football which could be impacted by all sorts of factors outside of the control of the power brokers.
