as much as I think Koeman is the right man to take us back to the top, do any other blues think he has to take a lot of the blame for our last 2 losses against spurs and against them lot yesterday?

he changed our formation which I think was a major cause of us losing. Koeman was interviewed and mentioned we have an inferiority complex when it comes to playing at anfield, but his formation yesterday showed he too didn't think we could beat them and was looking to get a draw.

just my take on it but I was hoping after the spurs game he would realise us fans would rather we went and tried to beat these teams by playing the way we have been winning games and not by changing tactics to worry about them.

I think a lot of the changes made yesterday were forced upon him by injuries, so I don't think you can blame him too much for changing the shape. That said, I do think the players he chose to bring in to compensate (Bringing in Pennington and Calvert-Lewin and leaving our Barry) where the wrong ones.

He also had Marallas and Valencia on the bench till late in the game I'm glad he's given the youngsters a chance but not in a game like this.

Calvert Lewin started the last couple of games so he wasn't brought in. If anyone saw his interview before the game he said he was always going to play the formation he did it just meant that due to injuries it was different personel.

Ander Barkley, Koeman said pre game the injuries played no part in formation and tactics as he was going to set up the same way.

Here is my take on things.

We are not good enough yet.

Our league position is 100% down to RK, 7th is giving us all false hope and we are becoming dillusional about how good we are.

With no injuries and everyone playing to his best ability we would still be struggling against the big boys when they play on form. let's see what the summer brings and maybe even the next January window before we start blaming tactics for losing big games.

It will come but not just now.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I thought to many youngsters from the start, surely Valencia had earned a start and would have offered more experience than Calvert-lewin, Pennington deserves credit for his goal but was given a torrid time by coutinho (not the only defender this season) also the subs were required much earlier, we do not have the strength in depth in our squad and that was very evident!
But its a work in progress we have cleared out a few but this summer requires a lot of recruitment of quality!

Grumpytoffee,

I don't think we are not good enough as we have beat city, man utd and Arsenal at home this season. yes I agree we are not as good as the 5 teams above us (not including Liverpool as I genuinely feel we have a better team and they are punching above their weight).

But on our day we are a match for any side but if you look at the two games we have lost against spurs and that lot we lost v spurs as Koeman changed our shape to accommodate them and we lost with 3-2 flattering us and again on Sat even if every player was fit I feel we would of lost as he again changed the shape to accommodate liverpool.

I just feel even with the kids playing if he had stuck to how we have been playing we might of had a better chance.

We didn't beat Man U - we drew.
He changed the shape Saturday because we were missing Morgan, Jimmy Mc and Mo Besic all in CM which, as we know, left us with Gana and Barry. It showed at Goodison that Barry cannot play against teams that have such a high intensity therefore the system had to change to try to get other players into midfield.
As it was it didn't work. Bringing TD back took away the best of his game and Ross looked lost without him. Pennington and DCL to me just don't look ready but that is our problem with a small squad and a number of long term injuries.
As regards Mirallas and Valencia, clearly he doesn't trust them though i agree they should have played.

Bluey79 what aloud of tripe, better than liverpool, they had Llallana and Henderson missing equals half the current Everton team even when all fit, you genuinely feel Everton are better you need to watch a few derby replays on TV watch Everton try to kick Liverpool off the park get booked and then are totally unable to influence the game for fear of being sent off. look at the last recent derby games all follow the same pattern, Everton have been a disgrace football wise and discipline wise so get real.

{Ed025's Note - i have to agree patti..

Don't know what Derbys you watch patti, cause iv seen one were we leave Liverpool not knowing what to do, so buck tooth runs all the way to his own corner and kicks the crap out of mirralles which was a massive game changer. seen ones when the red ref sends Everton players off for phantom tackles and many other similar disgraceful decisions, and all in our recent past. So don't see this pattern you talk about sorry.
