Whatever happened to Arouna Kone? Is he injured again?

ORIGINAL AJ

1.) 24 Nov 2016 08:35:51
Kone has to be one of the most stupid pieces of business ever. We sold Anichebe who was only 22/ 23 years old for 6 million. Then spent the 6 million on an inferior, always injured 31 year old. Ok Anichebe has had a poor couple of years, but at least he was young enough to have "sell on" value through his contract. How much will we get for Kone if we sell? This was one of my disputes with Swan. Then again, the Niasse signing has even eclipsed that! (and with Cleverly and McGeady thrown into the equasion) . that's where our squad was weakened! We still need 3 or 4 new signings just to get us back to the level before Martinez in my view. We also have ageing players that Koeman's signings have added to. so a big rebuild is on now! So don't expect immediate success guys. it will take a few years I think.

2.) 24 Nov 2016 10:43:09
To be fair, Anichebe isn't good enough for us and we were right to sell him. Unfortunately we spent the money poorly and have paid for that a little. I think we need 6-8 players now to achieve anything like what we want.

3.) 24 Nov 2016 12:52:37
What happened to Swan? He just disappeared from this site, pity really he was always a good read. To be fair about strikers their are not many really good ones around and the ones that are really good are our of our price range. We did well to get Lukaku and the only way forward for a team like Everton is to recruit them when they are young and inexpensive. Some of the kids in the U18's and U21's seem like they have potential, we can only hope that Walsh finds some gems.

4.) 24 Nov 2016 13:37:51
Victor had no sell on value. We got 6 mil for a lad that wasnt good enough. He's just been released so not sure what the arhument is there.

As for Kone he score 17 goals the season before he came to us but then got injured. We didn't have loads to spend and so got someone who was proven in the EPL for peanuts.

It just hasn't worked out.

From what I've seen. Jags, Baines, Bryan, Ged, Lennon, McGeady, Barry and Kone are the ones we need to move on and get players in to replace over the next two windows due to age and ability. After that it is about improving on what is there.

The big one in the summer is two strikers to replace Lukaku when he goes.

5.) 24 Nov 2016 16:34:41
Agree with all that BlueJohnUns. Maybe not totally on some of players you mentioned letting go. Jags, Baines and Gerry may have more to offer.

All of the rest of your post I agree with. Not too long ago people were smerking on this site how we got way too much for Victor. He looks good now because he scored a few. I hope he keeps on scoring.

True about Kone it just didn't work out. Cleverly on the other hand I can't understand why anyone would give out about him. Decent player for free. Not in first 11 but versatile.

6.) 24 Nov 2016 17:14:08
The thing is. we sold Anichebe for 6 mill then blew 6 mill on Kone. Kone never had a good scoring record and I said at the time that we were replacing a 22 year old with a 31 year old. For the same money. Me and Swan and a couple of others had heated debates about this and my argumen was not about whether Kone was a bit better than Anichebe or whether Anichebe was a bit better than Kone. but I did suggest that they were of similar ability. so 6 million on a 31 year old or a 22 year old? You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Time has proved me right and look at Anichebe back under Moyes. Yes it might be a blip and he might get injured tomorrow, but right now I would have one Anichebe for 10 Kone's. Oh and he is still only 27 whereas Kone is now 33. Who would you rather have now? At least we could sellhim and get something back whereas Kone is worth a big fat zero now.

7.) 24 Nov 2016 18:34:20
Exactly Degsy we could sell Cleverly now after signing him with no fee. Bought him for a big fat zero but if we sold him now how much would we get?

8.) 24 Nov 2016 19:00:12
Good point. I am not sure but got to be over 8 million I would think. But that still does not make the Anichebe to Kone "swap" good business. Nor was Niasse, McGeady, Alcaraz and maybe others. but let's not go over old ground. At least he brought in Lukaku. On aa brighter note Osmanlispor are winning in Bucarest! My 2nd favourite team since I came across them!

{Ed025's Note - love it degsy.. :)

9.) 24 Nov 2016 20:10:50
Victor scored 0 goals last season.

Kone scored 7 goals last season.

Where is your argument Degsy?

Neither of them are worth an argument at all. Both shouldn't be playing for the club. Stop wasting time on them and look to a brighter future.

10.) 24 Nov 2016 21:20:49
Agree BlueJohnUns but the real point is one was signed by Moyes and one by Martinez. Degsy thinks every player signed by Moyes was good. Every signing by Martinez was bad. Bet he'll say Lukaku is the only good signing by Martinez.

11.) 24 Nov 2016 22:18:58
To be perfectly honest the signings we've made over the past 20 years have not been good enough to get into the top 4.

So whoever is at the club and whoever signed them doesn't make a difference. They all failed.

We're in a very new situation.

For me though Martinez has signed the best striker we've had at the club since the 90s. Barry has been outstanding, Mori is very good and should be ahead of Jags, ged is a good player but just has terrible stamina and Besic has so much potential but has his injury problems.

Moyes bought tons of bloody awful players but also some gems. However, he failed every season just like Martinez did. And no getting to Wembley is not success. Winning the thing is.

Just temember though Degsy they both had pennies to buy with and didn't have the buying power of the clubs in CL who could go out there and buy proven quality.

The difference in quality between both managers signings is marginal.

We don't want marginal anymore though we want significant improvement.

12.) 25 Nov 2016 07:04:57
I'm just confused at how Anichebe has aged 5 years and Kone only 2 in the same period of time? Not meaning to be picky but maybe Degsy can explain this to me as all the rest seems irrelevant. Anichebe sold at 22 is now 27, Kone bought the same summer at 31 is now 33?

13.) 25 Nov 2016 09:54:39
Good point bluegray. Degsy leaves a few holes alright. Like him Swan and 'others' had debates before about this.

Which part of our blue kit clashed with Southamptons red and white stripes forcing us to use the chest infection green?

ORIGINAL AJ

1.) 16 Aug 2015 14:56:31
We have a 3rd strip. It's green. Get over it!!

2.) 16 Aug 2015 15:29:07
we go away perform well score three goals and your bothered by our kit!!!

3.) 16 Aug 2015 16:22:43
If that's how we play in a green kit then let's wear it all the time

4.) 16 Aug 2015 19:59:12
I actually quite like it, it's different and unique I, know it's been slated but I think that's down to it being very different to any away kit from any team I've seen, and if we play like we did yesterday I'll be happy for us to wear it every week

If we start looking at a new keeper, one for the future, then that lad at Norwich looks quite handy!

I accept that we are out of the cup, Arsenal were the better team on the day.

What I do not accept is the way that the club disrespect the fans time and time again by fielding weakened teams. Yesterday it was in just one position, but what a critical position that was!

As fans, we take the time and trouble, and cost to follow our team all over the country. Yesterday, my daughter and I spent over £400 to go and watch the game (tickets, fuel, parking, meals) and it felt like the club were not bothered one way or the other whether they won or not.

That much was evident before they even kicked off due to team selection. You need to pick your strongest team if you want to beat the likes of Arsenal.

This was our most important game of the season so far and now our season is more or less over.

Another route to Europe is gone, not that European football is important to our club as RM announced last we that he would use the under 21's if we got into the Europa League instead of the Champions League!

ORIGINAL AJ

1.) 09 Mar 2014 13:40:26
I thought martinez said if we got europa we would bring in quite a few playera in the summer? don't remember him saying he would field our under 21s?

2.) I think we will struggle to get Europa League now. Look at our recent form. Lukaku back will help, but Spurs are 5 points ahead. We have 2 games in hand. Manchester United are same points and we are a game in hand. We have lost 3 of our last 6 league games. and the cup one. Spurs lost 2 and Manchester United 1 from their last 6. So our current form is not as good as theirs. Time will tell, but I think we are struggling at present. Since January, if you take out the Stevanage and QPR games, we are averaging less than a goal a game. That is relegation statistics. I know Swan will say. , same old record etc. but at least some are seeing it as well as me now. I love the RM philosophy of flowing football, but I prefer winning games. We will be better with Lukaku, but after he goes.

3.) This was an interview recorded midweek, partially played in an early morning broadcast on Merseyside, he was saying that he thought Thursday was too close to the weekend to risk first team players and although he wanted to bring players in to strengthen the first team squad, he would utilise under 21's in the Europa League.

4.) Our 'poor' current form is made up of away losses to spurs and Chelsea - both unlucky- and the weird disaster away loss to Liverpool - plus the shambles yesterday away to arsenal - against other non top 5 teams we're still winning so its all to play for if you ask me

We would not have to pay up his contract and that of the backroom staff upfront. We just need to keep paying his monthly salary to the end of his contract.

Moyes met with Everton representatives twice at the beginning of November and subsequently turned down the Stoke job. Around the same time Martinez came out and said that he had unfinished business at Everton.

Apparently another prem club bid £12m for him, Cardiff want nearer £30m, we have offered somewhere in the region of £18m and talks are ongoing.

Dyche is in. Biesla did not actually turn us down but he wanted 800k a week and only work with the U21's until June so that he wouldn't get the blame if we went down.

Graham Sharp was appointed as a non executive Director last January whilst Benitez was still manager. Primarily to advise the Board on footballing matters but also to improve relations with the supporters. In the last few weeks he has come out and blamed the supporters in part for the situation in which we currently find ourselves, so that's a double failure. As an executive Board member he does not have any power at all.
As for headlockgate, no video or proof has been shown so it obviously did not happen otherwise it would be all over the internet. Nor was the report attributed to any individual, just an anonymous story to discredit the fans protest.
