Eto'o has apparently agreed an 18 month loan deal to Sampdoria, which would play out his entire contract with us. If it's true, it kind of begs the question 'why did we sign him in the first place?'.

I'd love to see i'm stay and think he is important to us, so why sign him if we are going to let him go 6 months later.

AB1878

{Ed025's Note - good question AB..

1.) 12 Jan 2015 16:18:36
I understand etoo is the reason for the unrest in the dressing room and the arguements with roberto

{Ed025's Note - first i have heard of that craig..

2.) 12 Jan 2015 16:42:17
I have also been told this by someone who is close to the team. I was shocked as Eto seems such a good guy, but if its true ship him out now and get the team spirit back.

{Ed025's Note - if its true...i agree kipper..

3.) 12 Jan 2015 18:16:42
I've seen this posted on various websites but didn't take much notice. If it is true then he has to go, nobody is bigger than the club, no matter who they are or what they have done in the past.

{Ed025's Note - i agree wedge...but we have to find out if its true yet mate..

4.) 12 Jan 2015 22:31:48
Sorry lads but don't really see what he brings to the team.
I would much prefer to have Gerry back!
Eto'o seems to have this free role but he's no messi or ronaldo and I think it slows our football down.
If he plays, he should be a striker and stay up top but he hasn't got the legs anymore.
I honestly can't see what he gives the team.
If we could get a fee for him then I think we should sell and invest it in getting Gerry back.

5.) 13 Jan 2015 18:15:23
Not sure how true or not this is but it is being reported in Italy.

"Everton striker Samuel Eto’os agent has vowed to keep working towards bringing his player to Sampdoria.

Claudio Vigorelli has been speaking in the Italian press about trying to bring his player from the Premier League despite Everton manager Roberto Martinez confirming that the club have had no contact from the Italians.

“The only uncertainty is the salary, but I am optimistic, ” Vigorelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport."

It does kind of suggest something going on behind the scenes, especially as no fee is being mentioned.

Ross the Boss has signed a 4 year contract, £65k a week, I think

AB1878

15 Jun 2014 23:15:27
Ed, do you know if we have any interest in Craig Bryson? Got 16 goals and 13 assists in the championship last season, from centre mid, and apparently has a £750k release fee. Wouldn't set our team alight, but we need depth in that position and won't get better for that fee.

AB1878

{Ed025's Note - i dont know of any interest from us AB, he still has 2 years left on his contract and would beef up the squad a bit mate..

12 Jun 2014 01:11:12
Apparently we're looking at:

Yacine Brahimi - an extremely skillful winger (only Ribery averages more dribbles per game in all of European football (even more than Messi)), but a bit Townsend-esq in the way there isn't much of an end product, but his stats aren't as bad and in a better team than Granada, he could excel.

Jeremain Lens - Pretty similar player. Not as skillful, but better end product.

Stefan De Vrij - Very composed and talented centre back. Been linked with him for a while now.

Provided we don't overpay (around £4/5m), Brahimi could be a good signing, although, with McGeady, we don't really need another quick, skillful winger, we need another Pienaar. Lens is the same. De Vrij could be an excellent signing, but will likely cost a bit.

AB1878

1.) El bob spotted talkin to hoss chops. At the dutch training camp apparently watching de vrij lens and indi if we get them happy days just need a cf then

2.) Brahimi is fav to sign for spur as poch nearly signed him last year for Southampton

23 May 2014 18:17:21
Liverpool are looking to sign Thorgan Hazard on loan.

I'm not one to cry conspiracy, but it does seem a bit ridiculous that this would come out days after we were linked with him. The exact same things happened with Moses. It made sense on all levels to come to us, but Liverpool popped up at the last second, despite not needing him, and wasted a year of his life. If Liverpool are genuinely going for him, and this isn't lazy journalism, I hope the kid has the sense to make the right call, not the glamorous one, and shame on Liverpool for trying to steal from us again.

AB1878

1.) Let them have him. If he wants to pull splinters out his arse all season warming their bench that's his look out (if he goes there obviously)

2.) Well I told you you would get Thorgan of us about 2 months ago whilst I am sure you will be loaned a player it could be either Thorgan or Atsu what I can guarantee is we won't be loaning anyone to pool has people in the the club from what I know of are seriously pissed with the treatment and game time of Moses and has such lending them a potential superstar is not going to happen so I wouldn't worry to much.

3.) Nothing new, they've been doing this for years

4.) 25 May 2014 10:22:16
It's a bit arrogant to think that we were the only club watching Hazard. Talent like that usually draws a crowd.

Am I the only one who really isn't happy about us chasing Bolasie? He's an exciting player but has no end product, plays in the only position we're well stocked in and will offer nothing more than Deulofeu of Kev, rather just hinder their play time. On top of that he's going to cost at least 2x more than he's ever worth.

Why when we are so desperate for a striker and full back are we splashing huge money on a winger?

AB1878

1.) 14 Aug 2016 14:14:20
In my opinion Gerry is not up to it as a winger, looks more of a threat in the middle. can't take players on, shows too much of the ball, and tries to pass n cross through players not after beating a player! infuriating and ineffective as a winger. Mirallas is predictable on the wing, cut inside and keep cutting inside till he's the other side of the pitch, rarely gets his shot away n when he does one in 10 on target. Apart from that they are good squad payers only. Need 1st team players.

2.) 14 Aug 2016 14:30:38
😴😴😴😴😴😴😴.

3.) 14 Aug 2016 15:15:18
Kev and Del boy are much better on the right, Bolaise plays best on the left its just about balance for me. It will be interesting if we do sign him as from what i have seen of him his work rate isn't great but that may just be the way CP play.

4.) 14 Aug 2016 15:41:31
Agree about Deulofeu, Howie. I think his game is riddled with flaws and he is nowhere near the player a lot think he is, but he's still young and improving and is twice the player we saw on loan, so wouldn't want his play time cut.

I think Mirallas is only predictable because of who he plays with. He has the ability to go either down the wing and cross or cut inside, but because 95% of the time Lukaku isn't where he should be (around the six yard box) , he is forced inside and then, as you say, keeps on dummying.

Still though, I don't think Bolasie will solve either of these players problems. He can dribble but can't pass, cross or shoot.

5.) 14 Aug 2016 15:45:24
Was pleased with kevs performance yesterday. with more game time hell be on top form. gerry is a great little player but for me one extremely important aspect missing. bottle. he does nt have it. he shys away from physical contact. if koeman can work on the mental side of his game hell b top draw. he needs to b braver.

6.) 14 Aug 2016 18:33:45
Totally agree with every word Jcl1878.

13 Aug 2016 16:56:33
Quick thoughts on the game today:

First half was the best I've seen in 2 years but Koeman was proven right when he said we're only at 70%. Clearly struggled late on

I've seen misleading debuts in the past, but I'll hold my hands up and say that Stekelenburg was superb today. Made 3 world class saves.

5-2-3 seems promising, especially when Coleman is back.

WE NEED A NEW STRIKER. Kone is still, shockingly, no where near Prem quality.

AB1878

1.) 13 Aug 2016 17:03:58
Agree on Kone. He's nowhere near good enough.

12 Aug 2016 19:54:38
This might sound a bit nitpicky (and I briefly touched on it in a previous post) but I just watched the Koeman press conference and he said that he knew that Stones was always going to leave, which begs the question of why did he feature so heavily in our pre season?

He played in 5 of the 6, starting 3 of them. If Koeman knew he would leave, why didn't he give more minutes to players like Holgate, Pennington, Galloway or even Kenny? Or to players needing to find some fitness like Jags?

Not a huge issue, I would have just liked to have seen a bit more play time for the younger players and to have known who will be the pairing this against Spurs.

AB1878

1.) 12 Aug 2016 21:54:56
Spot on point. Kept him fit for city!

2.) 12 Aug 2016 22:03:18
Probably becuse he was hoping to hang on to Stones and if he dropped him, Man City would immediately know that he was no longer in his plans. and could therefore make a derisory offer for him. By playing the game of sying "we are not selling for less that 50 mill" and actually looking like you mean it, you then do get somewhere ner that figure. If you drop him and look like you are ready to sell, you get other teams offering less.

3.) 12 Aug 2016 22:22:09
Think it was more if he froze him out everyone would know he was going and the price would drop as we'd decided he was leaving.
By keeping him in it said to city were quite prepared to keep him, leading to the high price.

12 Aug 2016 00:57:02
Can anybody who genuinely knows actually tell me if they think Lamine Kone would be a decent signing?

I won't dismiss him until I see him play for us, but to me it seems to me like all he's done is play for a terrible team, score twice against us and then jump ship 6 months later for 4 times more than they paid.

I didn't watch too many Sunderland games, so them avoiding relegation may have been largely his doing, so if it was, please let me know, but don't just be blindly trusting in the scouting system if you don't actually know, please.

AB1878

1.) 12 Aug 2016 01:08:33
Kone would be a beast of player. Watched him a few times last season. He has always said he wanted to stay but has not been offered the new contract he was promised if they stayed up. Hence what is happening now. He was bought for 6M and our buying price @18M has nothing to do with him 'jumping ship'.

2.) 12 Aug 2016 06:42:47
way better than what we have not including AW.

3.) 12 Aug 2016 07:46:17
My brother is a Sunderland fan an we've had many a conversation about this in the last few days, he says he's an absolute beast of a player, and he knows his stuff so I trust him. A lot of Sunderland fans are going into meltdown which shows how well he's thought of up there. I'll be very happy with the signing.

4.) 12 Aug 2016 12:14:18
Thanks guys. Especially Gibbo. It's always good to hear what the fans of the club a player plays for actually think, as opposed to just what the media says.

10 Aug 2016 12:53:26
I know I'm going to just seem negative, but I'm really not happy with our transfer business and really worried about this season.

- Stones was always going to go, so why have we waited until a week before the season starts AND played our entire pre-season with him as a key part of the squad? I get that City may have simply not bid yet, but we could have tried to see how the squad functions without him in preseason.

- Williams is a solid and experienced premier league defender, but he's 31 years old and overrated. Why haven't we invested that money into a new, exciting young centre back rather than a carbon copy of Jags who will be gone in 2 years?

- I'm a big fan of Bolasie, but £28m is insane. He WILL be a flop. He's very exciting to watch on MOTD or Youtube because of his ridiculous skills, but watch him week in week out and you start to realise that 9 goals (3 of which where in one game) and 13 assists in 100 premier league games is NOT acceptable. I know a couple of Palace fans who aren't so keen on him. He's just a better McGeady but will garner the same frustration.

- Signing Stekelenburg is laguhabke. The man has been at 2 premier league clubs and been disastrous at both. He would be good as back up, if we go for Begovic (who would be amazing) , but that's just going to hinder Joel (who is far from perfect, but doesn't deserve to be shut out) .

- Gueye is a good tackler, but he offers 0 attacking threat and cannot pass or dictate play at all, so he will neither replace or improve upon Barry or McCarthy

And finally, STILL no Striker or Right back. The Lukaku situation will drag on until the last minutes when we'll let him go and either be stuck with Kone for a season or panic buy another Niasse at the last minute and it'll be a disaster.

Thought this was the season things would start to look up but typically for Everton, they've just found a new way to infuriate and disappoint.

AB1878

1.) 10 Aug 2016 13:27:45
Who you working for AB1878? Obviously some of Evertons enemies?

2.) 10 Aug 2016 13:34:28
Negative AB, freaking understatement there mate, its just a game mate, let's see how things pan out.

3.) 10 Aug 2016 13:37:17
Ab1878 - you talk absolute rubbish man. Answering your own question in the first paragraph. You don't have a clue.

Ashley Williams is a short term solution for shoring up our defence - a very solid dependable player who will defend better than stones did.

4.) 10 Aug 2016 13:53:03
Jesus lad how negative can you get first of gueye is a very good signing as will Bolasie stats wise both top 2 for there respective teams also Williams overrated do ypu not watch much football once again stats wise 1st in every category and a born leader throw into the possibly Bony and maybe a new goalkeeper and I'm actually feeling positive about the season all be it will be a slow start but once the team connects we will have a fine season how about for once we look at the positives instead of the negatives coyb.

5.) 10 Aug 2016 14:00:37
Think the funniest comment is, Bolasie i'm a big fan of, He WILL be a flop. Goodness me you praise someone then say they will be a flop, confused if ya ask me hahahaha!

6.) 10 Aug 2016 14:33:27
When you say you're a fan of Bolassi then say he WILL flop I decided to stop reading because that's just silly. How can you be a fan of a certain flop.

7.) 10 Aug 2016 16:21:01
God! The players not even played a game for us yet and your on one, give it time they might surprise you. Bolasie was a nightmare last game he ran us into the ground and I'm a genuine fan of him.

8.) 10 Aug 2016 17:17:57
Same was said about Lennon when he signed, he's not done too badly for us, I think I will judge Koemans judgement, may even offload Niasse in the deal.

9.) 10 Aug 2016 18:10:22
AB1878 did post at Lunchtime Hic Hic!

10.) 10 Aug 2016 19:47:00
Okay, I'll admit I was being a bit TOO negative, but I stand by a lot of what I said;

to BLUEY79: Yes, I do watch a lot of football, which is exactly where my opinions come from. I don't just base my opinion purely off stats, which can be misleading. I will admit I was overly critical about Williams. I think he is slightly overrated, but he is still a very good and dependable defender and a leader (which we have sorely missed) , I wass just annoyed that we've sold arguably the best young centre back in the world and replaced him with a 31 year old.

- To everyone regarding my Bolasie comment, I stand by it. I am a fan of Bolasie because of how entertaining his highlight reels are and how he can do things which you would normally see in a freestyle competition, but I know for a fact he will frustrate and disappoint most fans with his lack of final product. It is exactly the same as when we signed McGeady. I was a fan of him before hand because he was so skillful he actually has a move named after him, but I knew he would be a flop and the fans would hate him and was 100% right.

If we sign Bony and Begovic (or Mata or any of these fairly exciting names) , then my tone will change, but at this moment in time, the way I see it is that we've bought a solid midfielder who will offer nothing new and replaced an exciting young centre back with an old one. And still not signed a new striker.

11.) 10 Aug 2016 22:45:18
Well if you watch football you will know how good Williams is and what a handful Bolasie will be add to that mirralas Lennon del boy Barkley and Bolasie with some playing and some coming off the bench is a frightening thought as I said think positive my man this big sleeping giant is finally waking up ps regarding Stones if he wanted to be the best defender he would of stayed at us and learnt from Koeman I don't care what he says like all modern day so called superstars they want it now and don't think they have to earn it first good riddance to him.

Yes. Stekelenburg was brilliant yesterday but his 35 previous premier league appearances suggest otherwise. He may end up being a revelation, but if we decided him and Joel are enough but it turns out yesterday was an anomaly, then we're in trouble.
