What do people think about our realistic chances to sign Zouma? IMO if we could only have one signing over the summer I would choose him. The defence has been great over the past couple of months and he seems to have a great partnership with MK. I think it would be a shame and a real problem for the team if he went. I know Mina could step in but I think it would take him some time to gel with the team in a way which Zouma has now.
Would he want the move? Would chelsea consider it with the transfer ban?
Also just seen that Tom Davies has signed a new contract which is really great news. I didn't know he was only 20, I thought he was much older. TBH I thought he might have been looking elsewhere to get some more game time, I hope he gets a lot more playing time next season. A real star for the future.

I'd be happy with that. If we bought him and then had Keane, mina, Zouma and Holgate. We wouldn't need to buy another CB for 4 or 5 years.

Love to see both Zouma and Gomez next season. Hopefully we can get some funds together with a few sales from unwanted players. Our wage bill should certainly be lower as we loose a few with contracts expiring.

If we made Gomes and Zouma permanent and got in an out and out striker I’d be more than happy with that in the summer.

I am surprised we haven't already agreed terms with Chelsea for zouma. Lots of teams but loan players they have during the season. Hopefully we get him. Big strong fast sensible defender.

Geoff, the same could be said about Gomes. Clearly no future at Barcelona, if we want him and he wants to stay with us then surprised it’s not been done already, as you say other teams have signed loaning signings (Jimenez at wolves) .
Maybe just the sceltic in me but the fact we haven’t secured his services permanently suggests to me he’s off elsewhere.

There are other factors that come into it GingerDan. some players/ clubs don't want to discuss mid season and would rather concentrate on playing/ planning.
I am sure we are in the box seat for Gomes but it could also be Barcelona looking to squeeze as much out of the deal.

Hi Ed's, it may just be the start of the silly season early but is there a rumblings about interest in Lucas Ocampos as reported in some media, I have no idea how reliable the likes of calciomercato is in terms of rumours especially as they are Italian reporting on Everton interest in a French based player!
From what I see though he sounds versatile playing across the front 3 and can also play with both feet so could be the sort of young talent we would look at

His agent offered him to another English side in December without the permission of the player or his club and was duly castigated by Zubzaretta. And what would Everton do with yet another LW?}

Just read an article regarding Welbeck and how he is the proven striker we've been searching for since Lukaku left.
Whilst I think the article went a bit overboard and seemed like it was written by his agent in a way lol.
I do think him on a free at 28 would be an excellent option if we can also get an additional striker and providing we can ship out the "dead wood"

Problem with Dzeko for me would be the transfer fee plus the wages and would be a tough ask with no European football
Sturridge and Welbeck do carry the risk of injury both could do a great job it kept fit, the medical department are probably swotting up on their injury history in preparation
we will have to see what direction Brands takes us.

Don't worry about the European football thing Southern Toffee, I heard he was offered to west ham and the nearest they could get to European football would be to sneak up and peer through the windows at the Tottenham stadium.

Thanks Ed. With regards the brief, I assume the “sell on” aspect is just as a possibility if say a stupid offer comes in not because we want to be buying in with the view of becoming a feeder club like Southampton and dismantling our squad each summer 😬.
