So just arrived back from the game and my message to the board is go and get Rafa Benitez. Knows the league, knows European football and is a great tactician we need to get away from the fact he's been a red as trust me I'd rather him be at the helm and stay up than moyes coming back worrying times and for me this next manager selection is make or break. How are we in this position?

We’re in this position because two managers (Martinez and Koeman) wanted to impose their playing style that the players we have weren’t able to deliver and they (the managers) were too obstinate or arrogant to adapt to the realities.

So many suggested names are like Marmite. I can’t think of anyone who has a majority of fans’ support - or even a substantial percentage of support.

True bobby they should have a looked at what we had and thought how to improve it, instead of being so arrogant that they had to make it 'their team' and bring in 'their people'. Don't try and fix something that's not broken, just try and improve and enhance it.

Ed what do you think the next step should be and if a new manger who would you protest for. Read your piece on Hoddle and thought it made sense.

{Ed002's Note - Take advice and build a short list.}

29 Oct 2017 22:35:23
Who would the club be likely to take advice from eds?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I don’t know if they will turn to a third party or even ask advice at all so can’t say who it would likely be.}

29 Oct 2017 22:40:48
When you say a third party, Woukd that be an agent type figure?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, it would not be an agent. It would be someone very knowledgeable in the game - mainly folks you would likely not of heard of.}

Ed002 - interestingly, the story (I don’t know if it’s true or not) was that when Walter Smith left Everton, he suggested to Bill Kenwright that David Moyes be his successor.
Under Moyes - who managed without any significant money to invest in the squad - we had over a decade of relative on-the-field stability with mainly top-half finishes including our only finish in a Champions League qualifying position.
So, whatever the criticism of Moyes’ often dour style of play and lack of ambition (let alone success) against “top” sides and noting many fans’ rancour at the manner of his leaving (running down his contract - which was his prerogative of course - so no compensation was due) that original advice from Walter Smith appears to have been well-placed.
The main concern I have about the next managerial appointment (notwithstanding which third-parties may be offering professional advice on the selection process) is that it appears to be that Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright reportedly have different visions about what sort of manager/ coach they each want - even if they both clearly want success for Everton.
I’m glad it’s not a democracy where the fans (many opinionated, but few really informed - me included! ) hold a vote to decide. We’d probably end up with Boaty McBoatface as the people’s choice - or should I say the people’s club’s choice. Probably very appropriate for us when moving to a new stadium at a former dock.

{Ed002's Note - A great comment Bobby. Your point about Moyes is a good one and with Walsh in a position of such power then I think a strong character is needed to bring that stability. And for that the likes of Dyche and Coleman would be better placed than Moshiri looking to lever Paulo Fonseca from Shakhtar Donetsk to give Everton the coach "he" thinks the club needs. So my advice remains, take advice, and choose carefully.}

Cheers eds. Hope its not the same third party who advised FM about ronald koeman.

The lack of stability in playing partnerships for me is the issue. We've got some great individual players but but we don't have a team because of all the changes every game.

When we had our best results under Moyes we didn't have the best players, but we had practiced partnerships like Baines and Pienaar, Jagielka and Lescott.

When Leicester won the league they had what looked like a bang average set of players, but there were partnerships like Huth and Morgan, Drinkwater and Kante, Mahrez and Vardy.

For me we have an average set of players at best - remarkable given what we spent in the summer - but we could have a decent team if there was consistency in starting line up. You can't build partnerships or team spirit when you start with a different team every week, nor when you make changes at half time. We need to pick an 11 and stick with it unless we have injuries.

I agree, although it's not the sole issue, it is a good point! Look at all great teams or even good teams and they have some sort of partnership whether it be a defensive pairing or a creator and finished type, right now you guys have too many ageing players who for some reason won't be dropped. The CB although in their day were great they're just too slow now, the midfield isn't sure enough to protect them either. Everton has an abundance of young talent and it has to get to the point where somebody says 'what do we have to lose'. I hope you manage to fix the issues you have but people calling for ancelotti etc is futile. The thing for me is who will want to manage this Everton team at the minute because although I'm sure you'll be safe I don't know what needs doing personally to fix this state of affairs, I have a few ideas but hey ho I'm not a manager. Goodluck fellas.

Unsworth was taking charge of his second Premier League game EVER, with a squad in disarray and low on confidence. You can't blame him for the mess that he's inherited. Love the way everyone has now pressed the panic button and decided Fat Sam would be the best manager.

I think he'd be an astute signing Al, there's not many players who are also fully qualified referees.

(Ok I know he's not really but he certainly thought he was last week)

Yeah I noticed he kept marking out the 10 yards for the ref by standing in front of the ball at free kicks and walking backwards.
