On the one hand, we have some players, e.g. Gibson, who are out injured for what seems ages...then, on the other hand, we have players, e.g Jelavic and Pienaar, whose form has been below par since returning from apparently shorter-term injuries. My questions are: (1) did we get Gibson (and players like Saha in the past) on the cheap because their former clubs knew they were injury prone, slow recoverers, and weren't going to play 30-plus games a season; and (2) do we select players (albeit key ones for us like Jelavic and Pienaar) to play even though they might be carrying ongoing injuries and are never 100% fit and therefore cannot perform (week-in and week-out) like we know they have in the past?

In my view I think they're too far in their respective comfort zones, with no one really able to come in and challenge them and do a better job than them. I know I'd rather start with Pienaar and Jelavic than Gueye and Vic every day of the week. That's why a bigger squad is vital. As for the injuries, it is a concern but maybe Moyes is being overly cautious so as not to lose them again, through recurring injuries, for any longer than is necessary
I take your point, but I think it's just part of life. All players have lulls in form, look at David silva, he had a period where e didn't perform and is just coming back into form now, happens to all footballers. It's unfortunate it's happened for jela and pienaar when we have injuries tho. Also I think their roles have changed a little with mirallas coming in and losing so many midfielders to injury. We aren't going to get world class back up, but who does outside last years top 4 and maybe spurs? Just keep getting behind the lads whatever, it's a long season, and if this is our bad run for the season with 1 loss in our last ten, I'll take that!! Let's get behind the lads, WBA will drop off and we can nick 4th!!

Good point mate.neville, saha, howard and now gibson are all down payments on wayne rooney,or installments whichever way you want to put it,and utd are still paying.some of the board seemingly went beserk by the way the rooney deal went through, its money they wanted and would you blame them?everton at the moment have probably two players worth 20 mill+,thats baines and big felli.so you can bet your bottom dollar that certain board members wont sanction any more business with utd or their cronies if interested is shown in these players, ferguson has been going loopy in the past few years to land baines but to no avail,he'l just have to do with evra and his backup buttner.
To the last poster. I very much doubt man united are still paying for Rooney 8YEARS later!if that was the case then berbatov, bebe and owen would be playing at goodison. Maybe the only reason everton have got these players is because there cheap because the owner don't want to spend any money and because fergie likes moyes, he's the only reason everton aren't in league 2
Baines is not worth 20 mill closer to £20 he might be good but not that good! He looks good in a average team but when he's in the cl playing against the big boys they'll soon find him out! He's had a good couple of season but at his age and with a run of bad form kenright would be lucky to get 8-10 mill in the summer. Evra should come good again and if he doesn't Fabio will be better than Baines in the next few years fact, so why would united spend 20 mill on Baines? {Ed025's Note - have you taken your medication today mate?...baines not that good???...try hes the best left back in the EPL, and in the top 3 in europe!!, evra is well past his sell by date, and fabio is, for the want of a better word CRAP!!..if utd dont want him..great!!, but dont come on here dissing the guy...now back to your padded cell, theres a good boy.
Typical utd fans ed,aint got a clue.probably a reds supporter that lad before 1992.bob. {Ed025's Note - i think your right bob..
