Swan: is that just an opinion, a deduction, or info based on what the club or the player has stated?

An opinion, if he at the age of 21 can't get in the team when all our left backs are out, martinez mustnt rate him

Not so sure. Martinez rightly predicted a physical onslaught from West Ham and chose the more physical Hibbert to step up. I think Garbutt will get a couple of full games soon - vs. Krasnodar at home and an FA Cup game. Martinez is no fool and he'll still be encouraging Garbutt and telling him he has a future here. Baines only has three or four more seasons in him max.

Swan: fair enough, mate.
By the way, my understanding is that next season Garbutt will be an 'aged over 21' player and will have to be named in our full squad. The good bit is that he'll be classed as 'club trained' for our European squad (if we qualify!). Barkley and Lukaku will also have to named in our full squads at that time as well, so some other players will have to be moved on (or excluded).
Our current PL squad is 24 players, while our current UEL squad is 25 strong (all 24 PL players except Junior PLUS Lukaku and Stones as the last two, although under 21, haven't been with us for at least two years). Come January, Stones should become a UEL under-21 player (having spent two years with us by then). Allowing for all that, our squad will still have to be changed next Summer to stay within the 25-player limit. We've also got to keep an eye on how many club-trained players we have. We were only able to name three of the four required for Europe this season (hence our UEL squad being one light at 24 players) - they're Osman, Hibbert and McAleny - with Barkley and Garbutt to bring into the aged-over-21 squad next Summer. All the talk about moving this player in or out by our fans is all well and good, but the squad rules and FFP spending (fees and wages) rules make it much more challenging these days. Simples - not!

My bad - our PL squad is 23 players (not 24).

My double bad - currently our PL squad is 23 players (not 24) and our UEL squad is 24 players (not 25).
I've got all the right players, but not necessarily the right numbers, as Eric Morecombe might have said ;-)

His contract is up at the end of the season

Swan: good point about Garbutt's contract situation - if there's no hint of a renewal by January, then I guess we'll start reading stories of other clubs' interests. I just hope that we don't do another 'Dan Gosling' and lose out on any fee (or compensation)!

I'm sure Roberto will give Luke a chance, he didn't start on Saturday due to a slight injury he picked up while playing formthenEngland U21s

Ya guys garbutt has no future ;). In all seriousness I thought he played very well today and I would be very comfortable if I was Martinez playing him in lots of different situations

{Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

So the daily fail is now reporting that chelsea are lining up colemab for 20 million. These rags love flogging our players. Jokes

Believable3 Unbelievable10

20 mill for one of the top 4 right backs in the world is a joke. Am I the only person who thinks sc is in the list of top 4 riggt backs in thr world

Agree1 Disagree0

If a promising full back like Luke Shaw goes for £30M, then a now-proven Premier League and International full back like Coleman is worth nearer £50m - but, of course, that's not how the crazy transfer market works, does it?
