Looking like we will not be getting our striker this January, unless we offload some players.

Cannot see anyone paying for any of the players we want to offload.

Tosun will be wanted by Turkish teams but only on loan, cannot see anyone beating the door down to sign Schnids.

The only player I can see leaving is Gaye at the right price, then we need to fill his position.

We have dug ourselves into a hole by allowing players to go out on loan, even Cardiff saw through us and went for the loan option.

So unless we somehow manage to get a few sales by putting a more realistic price on our players, expect it to be a quiet January.

Its been stated on numerous occasions the club will be doing very little if any business during the January window. I can't see the problem with that either we won't get relegated and won't finish in the top 4. The current squad is good enough for the time being in my opinion.

The squad is good enough but they don't play as a team. In the real world some of them would get the sack on capability.

More like dereliction of duty Pensarn. I agree also with sa90. It’s shaping to be a mid table season so why panick? Get the striker early in the summer window ready for a pre season then no more excuses.

Hi toffee, I know if I put a shift in like some of them do, then I know I would have been up in front of the manager mate.

Not sure how much a new striker would improve this team. We are not generating enough chances so even the best strikers would have a hard time. We started the season with some good attacking style play but even then we had games which were poor and this has now become the norm rather than the exception. It seems that Silva has plan A and when this does not work the players have no idea what to do resulting in mistakes, poor passing, low confidence and general malaise. The opposition now know how to play against us and if Silva can't find a plan B or C then it will only get worse regardless of whom plays. At the moment we are a a bunch of individual players and not a team.

{Ed025's Note - very much so mike..

Certainly worth putting Hornby in the squad for the cup game.

Hi Eds02, nice to see your quiet about my so called 5 game prediction. It only lasted 2 games. What's going wrong with us mate?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The problem is the lopsided squad, the lack of RW, not playing Tosun and having Silva as a coach.~

21 Jan 2019 17:47:59
Not much down for us then Eds.

Ed002. can't see Silva going until the end of the year, if then. Any ideas about who might be a suitable replacement given availability and the state we are in?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club are looking to up their profile and are taking advice - ironically from the guy who pushed the side toward Silva. Right now I am not aware of the club looking for someone new. Again, this is rather a self inflicted wound and has resulted in a lop-sided squad that needs work - there might be 10 or 12 players available to leave but that is a lot of work to undertake. If there is no trust in Tosun, a decent player, then a CF is needed - but they could have grabbed Sala at a reasonable price and decided not to.}

21 Jan 2019 21:09:42
Ed002 -are you not a fan of silva’s?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Are yo? Would you not rather have the relative success of Martinez, Allardyce and Koeman as compared to Silva? A mistake from day one as I have explained.}

What can be done on a more positive note with tactics or playing staff to get us out of this slump?

That's the Million Dollar question isn't it billy. There is so much wrong atm it's hard to know what to do. Maybe instead of trying to force square pegs into round holes, as Everton often do, getting a proper striker and playing Richarlison in his favoured position out wide would be a start.

Yes but why are there so many "quality players" that suddenly seem unable pass/ cross/ tackle or play consistently for 90 minutes.
Is it
1) Attitude
2) Unable to follow instructions
3) Lack of instruction.

{Ed025's Note - all the above i would say mate..

20 Jan 2019 09:50:26
It is a head scratcher isn’t it.

You’re right H, but easier said than done, especially in January. I’d honestly give Tosun a run in the side, even with Richarlison in behind him. He’s a great natural finisher CT so I’d give him a decent run.

You can see with Richarlison that he’s got pace to burn and can be very direct, but when he’s doing that through the middle, he doesn’t know what to do when he gets in the final third. As a winger, he can cut inside or cross a ball.

Either way, it’s very frustrating at the moment and it’s hard to see where and how things will change.

Sorry to say but one of the major criticisms levelled against Martinez was a lack of plan B!
For me this is happening all over again same line up no variation in formation to play home or away, and a failure to get the team fired up and motivated, although second half v Bournemouth there were signs.
Silva has quite a dour disposition and I’m not sure if this is how he comes over in training unfortunately I’m not in the know but a word to describe us at the moment is ‘Fragile’, we seem to have no leadership and a massive loss of confidence!

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that wakka mate..

20 Jan 2019 14:50:06
Agree there wakka got to say Silva seems to have his favourites that he sticks by even yesterday we could see how bad Richarlson was (not the only one) could and should have made changes at half time so hence no plan B think it just needs freshening up DCL or Tosun up front Richarlson back on the wing, Bernard at 10 as Sig has been anonymous, drop the zonal marking aswell lots more I could mention hope a strong team on Sat and next round of the cup boy do we need a cup run to lift the fans this season.

Be careful what you wish for lee1878. Martinez and Wigan had a good Cup run. The only difference this time is that there are 3 Clubs worse than us in the league.

Well the BBC must think there's a cup upset, they have us live on Saturday.

20 Jan 2019 21:12:01
Wakka that’s exactly what we are fragile if we go a goal down that’s it for us and if a team pressures us from the start we crumble we need a leader and a real baller in midfield.

There is no question we need a striker, I think what is hampering us is Silva has got in his head certain players playing and assuming they will come good in the end.

If he lands a striker, that will push Richarlison back out to the left, that then leaves Lookman moving over to the right, meaning no place for Walcott, he could try Gomes further up field, that then hampers Siggerson.

That is why I am not holding my breath of a striker coming in.

He would sooner play Richarlison out of position, than start with Calvert Lewin as a striker, bringing a striker in makes Silvas set up go tits up.

We can all see it, other teams know exactly how we are going to start, what subs are going to be used if the other team goes a goal up, so predictable at the moment.

That is why other teams are picking us off.

Silva needs to mix it up and come up with a plan b.

20 Jan 2019 21:28:45
I think we need a ball winner in centre mid who's going to put himself about and put his foot in that's why I would think of starting McCarthy against millwal and I'd think of playing tosun or dcl upfront and move richarlison back to the wing as it's time for us to give him a break from the striker role and maybe the inclusion of McCarthy might gives us the energy we need.

When was the last time we played a 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1 changed tactics and took the game to other teams at Goodison, the opposition have against us we have constantly played the 4-2-3-1 since Martinez days and it really doesn’t seem to suit us every game!
2 defensive midfielders in front of the back 4 and we still ship goals in!

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jan 2019 13:12:31
You really classify Gomes as a defensive midfielder?
