Italian website reported this morning we bid £7m for Marrone, any truth ed? {Ed025's Note - not that i am aware mike..

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Hope so! We need more bodies in the middle!

Agree2 Disagree0

It said Juve insist on selling for £10m, not sure how reliable it was though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope not I watch and know a lot of football but I have heard little to nothin about him

Agree0 Disagree1

You obviously don't watch or know enough then, he stars is a European Championsip winning Italy u21 first team, and is one of the hottest prospects for the nation's most elite team.

Agree1 Disagree0

Apparently the bid was lodged 2 days ago, I for one would love this player, he has a lot of potential and he is young, great player

If he is such a good player and a hot prospect for the future, why would Juve be wanting to offload him? surely they would prefer the player to progress with them and bring back the glory days to Juve? Not having a pop or anything at the player because I do believe he is good, but does he have something in the closet (like drenthe) anybody know anything? CraigHuytonBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

I know a lot of things Craig, my knowledge is vast and incomparable but I couldn't possibly share it all with you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that you, God? I knew you were a blue. Any chance you could do a bit more giveth and a little less taketh away in this transfer window? Cheers big man. See you Sunday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have u seen Juve's central midfield? Have a look and then ask why they wanna off load him

It's 9.09pm when I'm posting this, er how much would Kenny Miller cost?! {Ed025's Note - he plays in canada mushy..best place for him IMO mate..

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Be better than Kone

Agree0 Disagree4

It's 23, 27 when I'm posting this. I'm on planet earth What planet are you on with tha shout

Agree2 Disagree0

No he would not, dirt mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol. And no he wouldn't

Agree0 Disagree0

He scored a goal against England and you're raving about him, 33 year old below average striker. Just what we need

Agree0 Disagree1

Kenny Miller better than Kone? Not sure if you're serious there.

Agree2 Disagree0

Hes 33, don't be silly

Agree0 Disagree0

Only 68/9 caps for scotland, any half decent player could of mounted up 200 caps for scotland by the age of 33

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Aug 2013 08:27:35
How many top flight goals has Kone scored again? Oh that's right 11. How many has Miller scored? . um a lot! Haha all I was saying is we have just paid £5M for a younger below average striker. He isneven close to being in Jelavic's class. He is our number 1 striker and we should all support that then Victor after what he showed last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on give it a rest scored a good goal but not at our level

Not sure why people are comparing us to Norwich, Cardiff and the like.

We have got rid of Hitzy, Neville and Mucha.

In their place we brought in Alcaraz, Robles, Kone and Deulofeu. That is an improvement in the squad and by some way.

The one main area we struggled last year was up front and also genuine competition at the back after Heitinga's loss of confidence. Both boxed off.

In the centre we should see Barkley come into the squad now and in preseason he has looked outstanding. If Deulofeu can move into there though as cover I'd say we pretty much have our squad for next season.

And I would take that over anything outside the top four have.

Believable13 Unbelievable1

Good post although I think we need another deep CM to complete the squad then fifth is attainable

15 Aug 2013 08:33:17
Agree we have bought in players to add numbers but othe than the young Barcelona lad we haven't really added any quality at all. Alcaraz will spend most of the season in the treatment room, Kone is not good enough. Barkley has the promise and I love his attitude, he is tough as well as skillful but he still gives possesion away far too much. Give him time and we will have a top class player. Top 10 is the best we can hope for I think this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need another cm as well I know neville wasnt the best cm but he could play there if we were desperate so we have lost 2 cm and brought none in

Would of been interested to hear what Rooney told Gerrard about his issues may even have told him I'm returning to the blues

Believable6 Unbelievable12

Get real, wages? Image rights? Signing on fee? And that's before his astronomical price. Keep dreaming! He might come back when he's 33

Agree4 Disagree1

Not a disguised anti-Liverpool rant, but I'm astounded by how vacant Gerrard is. He tells the world's media: "Rooney's confided in me", which would seem to negate the confiding part.

Good player, but a dull, humourless and uninspiring figure. Rather listen to Joey Barton, who seems to have an inquiring mind, than Gerrard.

He once fronted a healthy food slot on a TV show and was asked by a load of kids what his favourite food was. He struggled to answer and then said: "Just maccies really". Even the kids gave the camera a "wtf" look.

Agree1 Disagree0

He didn't tell him that and it isn't happening.

Agree0 Disagree1

What are Maccies btw? Macaroni?

Agree0 Disagree0

Or macdonalds? Can't see a footballer eating macdonalds though

Agree0 Disagree0

He told him if I go to chelsea my agent rekons I can 300 grand a week

I see are predicting Everton will finished 17th. One place below Cardiff. Do those people ever have anything sensible to say?

Believable14 Unbelievable3

Let's people think like that mate. I fell we will climb up to 4th.

Agree0 Disagree0

They made a mistake. They've got Sunderland for 17th. I guess they mean 7th for Everton. One place below Liverpool. So that's at least 2 mistakes.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't finish near 17th but won't come anywhere near 4th. Between 7th and 10th is probably where we'll finish, realistically. A good cup run would be nice though

Agree4 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 15:35:45
Let them predict what they want mate, results count, I love them all underestimating us

Degs

Agree2 Disagree0

Poster 3 why will we get worse and go mid table so far we've kept the same squad added new players and youth breaking through and a more attacking minded manager

Agree1 Disagree1

I am worried a little by Liverpool if they start well, usual 5 suspects up there plus us and the reds. All about first 5 games for me, if we start well this season could be exciting. slow start and everyone will doubt Martinez tactics and I fear he is not experienced enough to keep the heads up through that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let them think what they want to, 17th is a joke as is 7th really, I think we are going to go one or perhaps two better than last year so 5th or even 4th if we get a bit of luck.

Agree1 Disagree0

There's no way on earth we'll get 4th. Spurs have strengthened considerably along with the RS (with more likely on the way), and Arsenal will be up there as usual.
It looks like a season of 'transition' is in store for us with some highs and probably quite a few lows. Seventh is likely the best we can hope for, though I wouldn't rule out Swansea to be competing for top 6 as well.

Agree0 Disagree1

7th or 8th for me

Rich84

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 18:33:56
We won't finish in the top 6 this year, top 10 at best. I expect a dodgy start, flirting with relegation until April and a scrape in.

We need to relegate Kone to 3rd choice striker and get Victor on there. Spent the whole of last season building up confidence, looked powerful and scored some decent goals. No looks like he is going to be back on the bench! Well let's see what happens on Saturday, away to Norwich.could be embarrasing.

Agree0 Disagree1

I don't mid being written off, it'll make it even more impressive when we finish top 6.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the one who said the red rubbish have strengthened considerably they have brought in the same amount of players as us but lost downing shelvey spears and probably rat boy and the players they have brought in I have never heard of

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a chance just keep tight at back and we will push on again for Europe top 8 easy

Would anyone have took Tom Huddlestone? Just signed for hull, he could of done a job for us.

Tom

Believable11 Unbelievable17

We need a big lump like that in our team we're not that desperate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Very similar player to Gibson and just as injury prone. Would be a waste of much needed funds.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok player, maybe would push for a place in team but not the type of player to progress us forward. only my opinion of course

Agree0 Disagree0

Not good enough for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 17:41:13
Yes Tom but you've signed for Hull so get on with it lad!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 19:04:53
We need to sign players who will improve the squad, Tom Huddlestone would not do that
AJ {Ed025's Note - i agree..

We should have gone for Huddleston, seemsonce again no money

The Express are reporting that Toby Alderweireld could be on his way to Newcastle as he prefers to play in England rather than Russia. It is interesting to note that they suggest he is looking for a net salary of £2.5M a year, which as far as I work out is around £70k a week gross.

For the BK haters and doom merchants perhaps excessive wage demands are the reason we have not signed him rather than having no budget to do so?

Believable18 Unbelievable3

Yes but heitinga is on £75k per week I believe and he is a rubbish whiney *******. So sell heitinga, get TA in and save £5k per week on wages and have a player who wants to play
Cheeks

Agree0 Disagree2

£2.5m a year equates to around £50k p/w. Heitinga is on around £55k, that's why we're finding it difficult to get him off our books because not many will pay him these wages.

Agree1 Disagree1

Yes it does, the key word here is "Net" after tax.

Agree0 Disagree0

I stand corrected, I failed to see the NET in the OP. Assuming he came to us he'd want to be our highest earner along with Fellaini- therefore it's not looking likely.
Still, my point about Johnny5 stands.

Agree1 Disagree0

Its way more than £70k a week gross. don't forget most of his earnings will fall into the 50% bracket

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel we 're missing out TA. Johnny will stay. Felli go. We have to buy def.mc. replacement and 1 att.mc.

Agree0 Disagree0

I stand corrected forgot it is the 50% bracket. So it is going to be nearer £100k a week then?

And to the poster with the point about Johnny H yes valid point mate.

It goes to show just how difficult it is to buy a quality player, huge wage demands agent's fees and such like besides the actual transfer fee itself.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 16:47:39
Yeah, my maths is only ok, but I get it at £115k a week gross. that's a lot for a player of his quality! I would forget about him and try and get Eric Dier back. Looked quality in the u20 tournament this summer

Agree0 Disagree0

We have some great defenders coming through the ranks, look at stones and Duffy, would we be limiting the likes of Duffy chances for another season if we bring in players on our top wages, he has gone out on loan and will end up not fitting in. any new signing would have to play if we are spending that type of money. I don't believe the rumours we have money to spend and think we have realistically 1 more player to come in for up to 8 mill. CM or striker would be more beneficial to us IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you about Dier, I'd take him, looks like a quality player and one that could well flourish under Robbie. Along with John Stones that could be the CB's sorted for years to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 19:10:01
Duffy is the future, excellent player, we could also take another look at Dier, RM would be more receptive than dithering Dave.
I also believe John Heitinga should be given a decent chance under the new manager

Eric dier is a great shout! Although I feel cm is the more pressing issue. Heard a rumour that the new city manager doesn't haven't Rodwell in his plans and is looking to offload him. I'd prefer that will Hughes of derby county though.

Baines is staying and will sign a new 5 year deal.
Fellaini is off to UTD before window shuts. We will sign Marrone from Juventus. Johnny will be staying and used more often as an anchor in midfield, we will not be signing another centre back so we can forget about Alderweireld.

Believable16 Unbelievable19

Johnny needs to go! He is simply just not good enough & no pace!

Agree1 Disagree1

If only I had faith in johnnys ability but the guy fills me with no confidence

Agree2 Disagree0

Johnny had a brilliant game vs Betis, his long passing and distribution was excellent

Agree2 Disagree0

Johnnys can be our best cb on his day

Agree1 Disagree3

Fellaini's release clause has expired now so we don't have to sell. Plus if Moyes was bidding 27 for Fabregas why would he come and pay 30 for a third choice target.
Not a rumour but I would probably make Johnny a p/e in the Alderwiereld offer (if one is made).

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you guys delusional, he's was beyond a joke last season had a average games against betis, he can't read the game tackle or win a header anyone can be anything "on there day" that statement means nothing

MikeDeBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets face it any champs league team that rated felli would have paid the 23.5 mil they want him for less clearly

Agree0 Disagree0

So agree we need rid and now. Only Jonny can lose a 10 yard race to goal with benteke by 9 yards! He's even worse in centre mid/holding role, still gives me hope of a pro career, I'd only be asking Bill to cover my mates ale tabs at the match.

BK in the RM press conference stated that RM in his interview said he would get us into the champions league (No Preasure), and that he would give him a few quid to spend in the transfer market (usual theatre dramatics) Although I do believe we don't have a bad side this season even if LB & MF happen to be sold I've got to agree with the majority that 5-6 million spent or whatever the single figure is is not putting your money where your mouth is champions league talk.

Baz

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Ha, I first read this as Left Back and MidField which ironically is still right.

Same (first commenter). I kept reading left back and midfield, before realising I was wrong, then realising it makes no difference

Barkley and stones gave a really good showing for the young lions last night, was only scotland u21's, but big things to come from these two and a few other at the club.

p.s erik dier played for england last night, was he on are books last season? thought he was on loan or something.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

He was on loan mate. plays in portugal, supposed to be decent

Agree1 Disagree0

We had the option to buy dier for 250k but we turned it down

Agree2 Disagree0

On Loan from Lisbon, I'm not sure how he got to Lisbon because he is from Cheltenham, but he looked decent.

Agree0 Disagree0

He looks really good he wanted a chance at everton and moyes never gave him it is impressing in Portugal though could go bck in for him I think

I think a lot of people have been down about the betis performance me included but before this game most people have been positive I thought we played well against Blackburn and we didn't disgrace ourselves in any game in US. The thing about the Betis game was they pressed us high up and didn't give our defenders a second on the ball so it was hard to play it from the back into midfield, the more I have thought about it we played 4 at the back and maybe a 3 at the back maybe better suited to playing this style when getting pressed making it easier to bring the wing backs into play rather than having a flat back 4 and the only pass on is cm or a long pass to ST we don't want Mirrallas coming to deep either. Just a thought I don't claim to be a tactical guru I suppose it's just something us fans can't help but think about I am sure Roberto knows what he is doing and I think we have got to expect a few teething problems changing style. What I will say is fellow blues is if we get beat against Norwich it doesn't mean we are going to get relegated nor if we win means we are going to win the league I just think some supporters need to be rational.

Believable15 Unbelievable1

Gibson and Duffy both Tweeted at 5am on the morning of the game that they were suffering from jet lag. I watched all the preseason games and was generally impressed until the Betis game. I think jet lag definitely played a big part in Everton's flat performance and I'm confident that you will see a different display on Saturday.

Agree5 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 10:04:16
Robbie I think there are a few reasons for the negativity at mo, I for one not convinced RM can 'teach an old dogs new tricks' in relation to style of play/ball control etc. We have also the lack of real quality coming in prior to the season starting and then there's the on going Felli/Baines bore story to UTD. If we start to get a few of these problems sorted then many of us might become more happy chappies!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2013 11:10:51
I think you are a bit harsh, jet lag playing final game in hot temperature and 90% humidity would have made any team look tired. I think some fans expect too much too quickly, it takes time to adapt to a new manager, new coaches and a new system, let's get behind the boys.

Agree1 Disagree0

Spot on Robbie & Wellzee

Agree1 Disagree0

Robbie, I don't know where you get your 4 at the back on Sunday. There were times when the only defenders we had were Jags & Distin. The two fullbacks were getting caught too far forward far too often.

Everton to bid for Real Sociedad winger, Antoine Griezmann according to twitter

Believable4 Unbelievable10

That would be amazing. Top potential and a player we could make money on signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only really plays left wing though, which isn't great news for quite a few of our players (peanuts and Kev prefer to play there, I suspect that's where Oviedo will get most of his time (if Baines stays) and Dooloo doesn't mind) :/ still, top quality player and would love us to have a go for him.
