Ed025, I know it's not the most reliable source, but, if the reports in the Mail are true about the way Ossie and Hibbo have been treated by the club, I'm both surprised and angry. These lads have been 2 of our most loyal servants over the years &. whilst I agree that we can't give every former player a backroom job, a bit of decency about informing them and at least giving them a chance to say goodbye to the fans is the very least we could do for 2 of our own. I really hope that someone will come on here and reveal that this was just crappy journalism and that we have actually done things the "Everton way".

Their contracts were coming to an end on 30th June, so - especially given their age, their injury record over the past couple of years, and their resulting lack of availability and appearances - it can hardly have been a surprise that they weren't giiven renewed contracts. However, they should, iin all decency, have been informed personally by the club before the retained/ released lists were published. As it stands, the report in the press is just gossip.

Who says they weren't personally told? I am sure there would've been conversations before now by the various players agents.

Paper rubbish. Of course there would have been a conversation.

It's this constant reporting of our club always in the negative that gets my back up.
Both players and agents knew their time at Everton was up, Osman is known to be keen on the media and hibbo has his fish.

Its absolute rubbish,
was talking to one of the head stewards yesterday and all off the players had a goodbye meal and all 3 of them said goodbye to the staff at finch. they knew months ago. typical national press!

{Ed025's Note - they never let the truth get in the way of a good story ali..

12 Jun 2016 15:24:14
They should of given the fans a chance to give a goodbye to them then, all three of them great servants to the club.

Signed a contract during the season if my memory serves me right.

While Kone was unlucky with the injury, his performances when fit weren't really up to scratch in most fans' eyes and Martinez's stubborn use of Kone on the left-wing was unfathomable. Nevertheless, I'd wish Kone well if he goes to play in China and I hope that our new management team can bring in someone better.

I think he triggered a 12 month extension clause.

Not that i wanted him to stay as I think we need more consistent performers just felt sure he had only signed for 3 years when he joined.
And I second that Sid, any player should be wished well if moving on if done and handled in the right way!

Evening mate. Just a question. Who do you think has made the decision regarding letting the likes of osman pienar and hi both go. Do u think Ronnie will have had any input in this. Cheers pal.

Extending Gibson's contract and releasing Hibbert, Osman, Pienaar and Mattioni were not, in my humble opinion, critical decisions that could only be sanctioned by the incoming management team.
Even if Gibson doesn't fit in, he has a sell-on value now that he's on contract.
As for the youngsters that have been released, I'd imagine that Unsworth, Royle, Sheedy and others in the club/ academy would have made that call. They may even have assisted in the Gibson, Hibbert, Osman, Pienaar and Mattioni decisions.

The papers saying koeman is interested in Manchester United flop nani he hasn't even signed yet I bet your bottom dollar he isn't just usual paper drivel.

Nani was being reported as an Everton target while Martinez was manager and long before the managerial change. So, the report could just be a tired old story still doing the rounds - but who really knows?

Are we interested in the dutch keeper or this more lasy reports because i think he would be a really good signing and cheap at 12m.

I'm sure that Everton are interested in lots of players - and I'm equally sure that the. various involved parties (clubs, agents, the players themselves, etc., etc. ) talk about the interest and that's picked up by the media - or deliberately leaked to the media for a variety of reasons - but it's all just speculation and gossip and rumours until someone actually goes on the record and confirms the genuine interest - or better still, confirms the actual completion of a deal.
I've yet to read or hear anything officially announced by Everton about incoming and outgoing first-team transfers or, come to that, about the appointment of Ronald Koeman. Everything we've seen/ or heard so far have been "reports" by the media. All that's been formally announced is the departure of Roberto Martinez and his backroon staff, the list of retained and released players, and the signing of Sambou from Coventry City.
Despite the frustration of the fans/ posters, I think that the confidential manner in which Mr Moshiri has Everton Football Club now working is laudable.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No Sid. That is really nothing like how all of this works. The club is unlikley to some out to confirm interest in specific players unless, perhaps, if a direct question is asked.}

11 Jun 2016 13:11:16
Ed002: Thanks for the reply. I totally get your point about clubs being unlikely to confirm interest in players unless perhaps asked a direct question. I stand corrected on that.
However, stories of interest in players are widely reported across the media. In your experience, how, in general, do these sort of stories arise? Do clubs, agents, players, etc., use the media to plant stories and manage (manipulate) stories? Surely the stories don't ALL come out of thin air?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - People don't "plant" stories as a rule Sid, and "widely reported" is simply different outlets repeating something from elsewhere. "Sources" will typical be blogs and conjecture. You will see hundreds of reports of Liverpool and Manchester United being interested in players based simply on their being well known clubs on the continent and both seem happy to overpay for mediocre players.

Better knowledge of interest in players from clubs arises from senior scouts, agents and "other representatives" (although there is a need to be careful there). Clubs are not generally happy with players who talk directly with the press (Suarez at Liverpool was a prime example of this).}

11 Jun 2016 13:42:45
Ed002. Thanks for your reply. I hope that the other fans/ posters take the time to read and absorb all of your points, but I suspect that many will just want to gloat about the assertion that Manchester United and Liverpool (especially! ) "both seem happy to overpay for mediocre players". I trust that Everton under Mr Moshiri's control won't also do that in the vain pursuit of accelerated success.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I would hope that Everton do not buy for the sake of it ever. If a club cannot get the player they want they shouldn't simply buy to keep the fans happy. And I would perhaps not elevate Mr Moshiri to god like status just yet.}

It's all very good to hear about the machinations of those involved in getting info out there for us to gleen from, but from the point of view of this site it's the rumours we are interested in. Someone hears or reads something Everton related and posts it. If the source is spurious then fine. Up to the reader to dismiss or accept, agree or disagree. Then if it's about having a bit of needle pop across to Banter and post there. Over priced under priced, Man united Cambridge United. Doesn't really matter as its banter.

Toffee ace: Of course this is a site for rumours and banter - and I reckon I enjoy the craic as much as anyone - but I (and maybe some other fans/ posters) are also interested in how things really work in modern football and people like, for instance, Ed002 offer what I find to be a very informative insight into what actually goes on behind the scenes - and they bring some clarity (and sanity! ) to some of the wilder stories.
Still, as I said, I enjoy the craic and I hope other fans/ posters do as well.
Have a good one :-)

Agree with both of you and Ed002. Is best to be prudent in spending money. I would only be in favour of signing a player if he strengthens our current players. Squad players or preferably first 11 players.

On that basis I think it will be hard to get players in that fit that criteria. IMHO no point bringing in players for the sake of it or to please fans. As well as it being a waste of a vast amount of money it doesn't make sense to splurge money. Better to keep it and spend wisely and for future signings should certain players that suit become available.
