Can anybody tell me how Chelsea are 3/ 1 to win the cup. We are at 8/ 1 yet we are slight favouritest o beat them on Saturday?

Good point, limk. It does seem weird. Probably because odds are a reflection not only of what the bookies believe are the chances of a particular outcome (which should be a rational judgement) , but also how much money is actually bet by punters (which is not so rational) . More people probably bet on who will win the cup than bet on the outcome of a single match, so number of bets outweighs actual evidence when setting odds there. Loads of people have probably had a punt on Chelsea winning the cup, not so many will have backed us (at least not with money - I suspect a lot of neutrals want us to win) . For this one match, the evidence suggests we've got a good chance of beating them, so unless loads of bets are suddenly placed on Chelsea, that's what will determine the odds.

Read an article online the other day, sure it was the echo, but the writer was comparing RM to the days of Mike Walker, showing a few comparisons between both of their stints as manager. Decent read for a change from that rag!
The interesting thing from the entire article was a different comparison with a current Premier league manager and the stats were quite shocking. The other manager was Tony Pulis.
Basically, Roberto's time in the league, with us and Wigan, are on a par with TP's time with Stoke, Palace and the baggies. Take a gander at these:
RM = 80 wins, TP = 84 wins.
RM = 74 draws, TP = 74 draws.
RM = 102 defeats, TP = 102 defeats.
RM = 256 games, TP = 263 games.
RM win % = 31.2%, TP = 31.9%.
What do you make of these lads?

{Ed025's Note - interesting spud, but it fails to highlight that while at everton he has had a far superior squad to work with so should really be way ahead of pulis mate..

Without doubt ed, his last three seasons should have been a lot better especially, as you point out, the squad is a lot better than TP has ever had at any of them clubs. Don't know why these stats shocked me, bar one season (his first with us) he hasn't really done anything of note with either us or Wigan. Goes to show that you can be as attacking as you like but you must be solid at the back. Pulis always sets his teams up properly defensively, just hasn't had the best attacking players at his disposal. If he had a Rom in his squads then his stas would blow away RM. Scary stuff!

{Ed025's Note - it is mate..

interesting comparison, especially to Mike walker who had us playing nice football but poor results, luckily the board acted in time!

Interesting spudv. One question, there seems to be 3 games not accounted for with TP? Maybe I'm missing something. I know 3 games wouldn't make much differ.

You bring up a good point about Rom playing under TP. Ed025 I mentioned last week about the possibility of TP as manager. You rightly said it would be boring dire stuff that we would be playing like our last manager. Sorry, I try to limit the amount of times I mention him because people think I'm his love child.

My point is and spudv touchs on the subject. With a manager like TP or my true father šŸ˜ the defence would obviously be a lot better like all their teams. Nothing new there but where it would be new is neither manager ever had an attacking side like we have now.

So how do we know what exactly they would do with it when they never had it at their disposal before? I'd love to see what both managers would do if they had our squad.

How do people know if they would lower the goals Rom would score or not play Del boy or Barkley when they never had these type of players before. Just because they had teams in the past who didn't posses the amount of talent that we have in the squad now does not mean they would have them playing the same way.

As I said before goals win games, conceding little wins titles. That's why my number one is Simeone. Newcastle tried the theory we'll score more than you. We all know that didn't work. Did it ever?

Agreed wakka, Walker had a liking for attacking players much the same as Roberto. The comparison with Pulis is an eye opener though. That should give his supporters something to think about.

Doesn't quite add up. Same number of draws. Same number of losses. Pulis won 4 more. Yet pulis has managed 7 more games. What's happened to the other three? Either way it's a shocking stat for Martinez. I'll be honest I like the bloke. And I like what he represents in terms of the football. But there's a massive part of his management missing. I was listening to an interview a short while ago with Danny Simpson. And he was saying Steve McLaren is a fantastic coach, one of the best he's worked with, but not a manager. I wounder is the same applies to Martinez?

Not sure whether I have copied the stat wrong or if the journalist has misled us with the article! Didn't notice the game discrepancy, cheers for pointing it out to those who did. I'll try and find the article to clear it up when I get chance. Either way, I doubt 3 games will make too much of a difference. It is still not the sort of form he promised when he took over. His management has taken us closer to the championship than to the champions league.

No doubt spudv. I dread to think what it's like when you leave out the first season. At least TP is steady and consistent. Over time with 3 different clubs he done good work with what he had.

I'd love to see only the last 2 seasons in that statistic. Don't think many if any managers would still be in a job like Martinez is.

Maybe we should get Moyes back as defensive coach šŸ˜š.

Moyes was a better manager for Everton than people give him credit for, he over achieved most seasons. Fans often have short memories he turned Everton from a relegation haunted side to a team competing for Europe every year with very little money.
History will reflect he was a very good manager for the blues, who knows he may come back.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think anyone will dispute he did a good job milomj, but the time had come for him to leave and the way he went about that left a sour taste in the mouth mate, would i want him back?...not in a millon..

Haven't been able to find the article online but I have managed to look at a copy of Wednesdays echo and it is exactly the same as what I posted. Story was compiled by David Prentice. Was actually hoping that I'd made the mistake as his error detracts from his point a little bit, albeit 3 games wouldn't change the outcome a great deal. Just thought I'd try and clear up the discrepancy, to no avail I know!
DM defensive coach? I wouldn't even let him drive the team bus! Nor would I want him back in charge, the reasons are simple really. Firstly, as ed says, the way he left and comments he made, derisory bids for our players etc. He burnt his bridges for me in the lead up to him taking over the mancs. Secondly, although he was defensively sound he stifled his attacking players. Certainly there is a few forwards who he ruined during his time. For all of Roberto's faults, he has given us a taste of how powerful we can be when attacking on the break and I don't want us to lose that. We need to strike a balance between the two.
DM did a good job for us when we needed him to but he is not the right man to take us forward.

{Ed025's Note - i totally agree spud..
