If you know your history?
I thought I knew a lot (my Dad's first match was Dean's 60th goal v Arsenal so I had to listen!)
but (Google)John Alexander Brodie (1858 - 1934) is a name not familiar but very interesting reading.
An Everton fan furious about a disallowed goal invented goal nets, designed Queensway, the tram network and designed the Mersey tunnel!
Every day you learn something new! {Ed025's Note - the bar in allerton rd is named after him as well mushy :)

Ed do you reckon Barkley will be an England captain in years to come? Think he is twice the player Gerrard is. {Ed025's Note - to be fair, gerrard is a great player, and if ross becomes as good as him mate...we will have a cracker on our hands, he would need to become a lot more vocal to be seen as a future captain IMO..
Steve g is without doubt one of the greatest premiership midfielders. Ross to be compared to him is praise indeed. potentially Ross could be as good. Ross is not twice the player but one day may be. Paul c coyb
If Ross wins a tropy at Everton then he can be compared to the other Everton fan Gerrard.
Ive got to admit gerrard is a great midfielder. He has been consistent with passing, tackling and scoring goals. Barkley has to keep learning, not dawdle on the ball, but I even think gerrard knows we have someone special on our hands.as for england captain I think wiltshire will be captain before ross
Whiltshire should never be captain he's to arrogant IMO I don't think a whole squad of players would look up to him as a captain with his attitude
Jack Wilshere has been brought up as a footballer under Arsene Wenger, so is it any wonder that he is so arrogant?
He as right to be arrogant he is outstanding wish he played for us tom efc
Wish Wilshere played for us? We're Everton Football Club, we don't want or need characters like that at our club.
I happen to rate him very highly as a footballer, but as a man he's a first rate idiot

I'm looking forward to seeing the outrage from Chelsea fans now Lukaku has said he would prefer to see Everton finish above them this season. Looks like Lukaku's sick of getting the short shrift from Chelsea and is enjoying having a run scoring goals with us.
Any chance we could get him on a permanent for under 30mil?
Personally am sick of him mentioning chelsea every time, at the present min he's an everton fc player, when he goes back to them fine mention them, we all know he is using the club to get at them, but keep quiet and carry on scoring
The reason why he talks about Chelsea is because that's all journos will ask him about. His form for us is excellent which only makes the line of questioning worse.
If anything the more they ask him, then the more annoyed he will get and hopefully decide he is better off with us.
So carry on I say
COYB
Toffee ace
I like ya reasoning ace, but just am an everton player for now there my team end of
steblue69
I think you will find that its the chelsea manager who gets asked everytime about letting him go and while he's saying things so will lukaku
Whilst I am impressed with Lukalu, he needs to play for 90 minutes hope he is not just a half a game player Still impressed with his start though.
Bluenose {Ed025's Note - he will get better as he gets match fitter bluenose, and that will be a sight for sore eyes mate..
He does more in 45 mins than jelas been doing in 3 matches
3 matches? He did more in 35 mins against the barcodes than jela did in 27 odd games
I tried to be nice was going to put 5 ha

Just thought I would clarify for a few of you; I'm seeing a lot of headlines claiming that Jagielka has said that Baines doesn't deserve to be in the England team and that he is lucky to be in the England squad. This ISN'T what he said. He simply said that Cole has been so good over the years that he doesn't deserve to be dropped, which is why Bainesy hasn't gotten the chances he deserves. So, this Cole injury is a stroke of luck for Baines, because he now gets his chance, when he wouldn't have if Cole hadn't gotten injured. I get what he was trying to say completely, but under the pressure of an interview, I imagine it was something that was very difficult to word and so didn't do so very well, imminently allowing the press to get all over it and manipulate what he's saying to stir s**t, as they do best.
Seen the same stories, media manipulating quotes to make headlines as usual. Good to see Barkley retained his place in the squad, I hope he gets a run out.
Most journos - apart from a few notable exceptions - are lazy, ill-informed, semi-literate persons. Anyone disagree?
