When refereeing was a part time "hobby" job, we were told that standards would rise beyond measure if we made them full time. As it's been a while, could someone please tell me when this great transition is about to take place? to-day our referee was truly dreadful, and to-day was not just a one off, he and so many other, all now full time and on big money are truly a bad joke.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree. I've been saying that for years. Referees these days are too close to certain players, years ago they would referee a 1st Division game, the next week it could have been a 4th division match

Watching Lukaku this season is making me think more and more that he may be an early developer, we have had these before, kids that look good but don't get better when they get that bit older. eg. Branch, Cadermatari, Jeffers, Vaughan. is Lukaku part of this club?.The last two seasons at WBA and us, he was terrific but this season he just looks poor, you learn the basics of the game as a kid, how to trap a ball and pass it, Lukaku traps it like a brick wall (Pinched that saying from someone else) he can't do the basics, and now at 21 he is'nt going to get any better, his movement is poor he dos'nt get into goal scoring positions, Last season and in the summer I knocked Naismith but boy have I ate humble pie this season, I do think he should be starting games instead of Lukaku, I really hope I am wrong about Lukaku because £28 Mill could be down the drain.

I think Romelu has scored more premier league goals than all those players you mentioned combined. I mean fair enough none of them cost £28m, but I think he still needs to be given a chance, Martinez has said that he wasn't fit for the first couple of months but insisted on playing, so we probably won't see the best of him until later in the month. Look at what you said about Naismith last year and he's come good. Have faith mate, it's been a crazy season so far for all teams involved, we should see a return to normality by the Christmas period!

Humble pie Kirbo. How does it taste? Remember that because you'll be eating more of it when Rom let's leash at some stage soon.

What do you mean at 21 he isn't going to get better? Drogba hadnt made his proffessional debut until he was 21, players are not at their peak during the teenage years, if so, eden hazard will never improve? Sterling, ross, oxlade chamerlain or stones? Never going to improve? Stones will always make mistakes, barkley will never be able to pass a ball and hazard will never get better in any way?. Come on mate

Agree0 Disagree0

What I said was you learn the basics as a kid if you can't trap a ball or pass it at the age of 21, your not going to get better at it now. Swan the players you named all have natural ability, at 10 years of age they would be able to trap and pass the ball with ease, that's what makes them stand out to other players. But at the end of the day you, me, and all the other posters know nothing, were all supporters who think we know everything about the game, and we all want to give our advice to Bobby and tell him who to pick, who to buy, and who to sell. but hey we'll all carry on moaning and cheering as each game go'es bye.

The free flowing football from last season is missing, when we do break forward there is nobody in the box to pick out a pass or cross to.Barkley was a pedestrian today.Never rated Mcgeady but I think Ross should of made way for naisy not him. imo naisy should of started the game full stop. There are no easy games in the prem but come on we should turning up at the likes of sunderland giving it the we are Everton yore not beating us you're not good enough to beat us. that's the mind set I would expect and want to see. We lack that confidence and a touch of arrogance that the likes of say chelsea do even when there not playing to the best of there ability they can beat teams they should do nearly evey time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd rather play Kone than Lukaku that's how bad Lukaku is right now; completely bloody useless.

Just calmed down after my Osman McGeady rant. However, can anyone explain to me why RM persists in playing McGeady? He is obviously out of sorts and low in confidence. For an attacking midfielder or winger, he has scored precious few goals and had precious few assists. Of the few games that we have won this season, Leon Osman or others have been picked ahead of him. I know that squad rotation is in place, but it seems to me that McGeady has his place and Osman, Barkley, Pienaar and Naismith have to fight it out for the other wide position.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just off the top of my head I think he has as many goals as Barkley, Osman, Pienaar combined, and more assists than them combined as well.
Look he is no Mirallas but without him McGeady is the only one of those you listed who is an actual winger.

No Leon Osman today. I wonder how we will perform without him again?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As I suspected, 72 mins gone and one nil to them. So we take McGeady off. Another blinder from him then. How many goals and assists this season from him? But let's blame Leon Osman because he is too old and crap.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh look.McGeady off and we immediately get a penalty and score. Coincidence?

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Mcgeady looked lively today. He was solid defensively and although his crossing was hit and miss it is always going to be difficult with no one in the box to aim at.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i want to know why him and peanuts are starting before naisy pod?, both of them are sub standard..i blame bobby there, now i know that with europa we need to rotate a bit, but come on!..barkley seems to be believing his own hype and contributed very little, and lukaku seems very slow to me, a decent centre forward would have buried them chances and his price tag is looking more inflated by the game!...maybe im just being a moaner but we looked very pedestrian today..

I totally agree Ed. Naismith should start every game. I don't think we won a header until he came on! I would play him behind Eto'o and bench both Barkley and Lukaku for a while.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you there pod, hefty valuations should not automatically guarantee you a place, sunderland were there for the taking today mate and we blew it!..

Like I say in my other post, it appears that everyone else has to fight for the position, but McGeady goes straight in. And Pod, he probably did look lively and reasonably solid defensively. However, he is an attacking midfielder or winger. So far he has contributed next to nothing with regards to goals or assists. All the other players I have mentioned have contributed more than him. I have heard may other Blues say, "He flatters to deceive." That is something that describes him perfectly. Looks ok bu hardly ever does anything to change a game. He played about 75 minutes today and as soon as he was taken off we scored. In recent times I have had arguments with other Blues who have slagged Osman. At least Osman chips in with a fair share of goals and assists. You might as well play my missus ahead of McGeady. She at least would get in the way.

the reason mcgeedy goes straight into the team is because his natural position is a winger. naismith, barkley and etoo are all central attacking midfielders (with the exception of etoo and naismith being able to play as the striker) certainly none of them wingers. I partially believe this is why so many of our attacking midfielders are stuggling to hold down a permanant place and when switched about struggle for form. if you consider the formation we set up the options should be:

LW: Pienaar, Oviedo
RW Mirallas, McGeedy, Osman
ACM Barkley, Etoo, Naismith
ST: Naismith, Lukaku, Etoo

Due to Pienaar being out and Oviedo I'm not too sure but wasn't on the bench, we are stuck to playing players out of position, personally today I would have set up:
LW McGeedy
RW Etoo
ACM Barkley
ST Naismith.
Etoo is more versitle in his build up play to play any of the attacking roles when players are not available as opposed to naismith or barkley.

Mcgeady goes straight in the team because he's the only winger we have at the club till kev gets back, having eto, naismith, barkley or osman on the wing disrupts the team, mcgeady got 2 assists vs lille remember, he's gets to the wing and crosses it, that's his game, he cost bugger all. This argument of 'we scored after he went off', it literally is nothing more than coincidence, we scored a penalty, naismith didn't come on and score, we scored a penalty. I hate these debates because it make me look like mcgeadys number 1 fan, believe me, i'm not. I just think he's getting unfair critisism from some, he's contributed more this season than barkley, pienaar or mccarthy have, are they garbage too?.

Agree0 Disagree0

I take all your points guys. I think I was a bit wound up after the game. I know the Leon Osman debate has been over done, but I was trying to show that he still has a use for us and that McGeady was no world beater. McGeady has had more goals and assists, but he has also had much more playing time. I also see similarities in the way Osman is sometimes easily knocked off the ball and how McGeady also gives possession away easily. Enough said all round now I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - posting immediately after a game may not be a great idea degsy, i done it yesterday and had a rant at a couple of guys to my detriment, i am very passionate about everton and get so worked up at times that my mouth engages well before my brain, just a bit of advice that i hope to heed myself mate..

Are you kidding Ed025? That is my calm version. You don't want to meet me down a back lane when I am wound up! Believe me. LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont frequent many back alleys degsy..
