Is it me or does Rooney look in good shape, I know he has never looked ripped due to his build but posing in the kit today is the best I've seen him look for a while, anyone who thinks Rooney is coming bag just for emotional connection think again there looks a hunger in his eyes, something to achieve again as he said winning a trophy back here will be the pinnacle in his career that's a huge statement considering what he has one, maybe I'm reading too much into it but he looks like he means business.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I thought exactly the same metz. He looks in great nick. Without sounding daft, it's like when you see a boxer when they weigh in - you know what shape they're in.

It looks to me Rooney understands that RK loves a high press so he needed to get in shape so he can fire on day one.

Rom Rom Rom will you ever learn, keep your mouth shut, Man Utd will never be the dominant force they were football has moved on too much, you will know have to do something you failed to do as of yet and at 24 is a concern, can you score goals in big moments in big matches, I can't believe that guy has no class unlike Rooney who has addressed the fans at Utd it costs nothing to say thankyou to the team that gave you everything and now your joining a manager that didn't believe in you.
Says everything when you are sold for massive money but Rooneys free transfer over looks your transfer, luv it.
WELCOME HOME ROONEY I WAITED 13 YEARS FOR YOU TO COME HOME ALWAYS KNEW YOU WOULD AND TODAY IS THE DAY!

Believable6 Unbelievable1

09 Jul 2017 21:52:34
I agree, Rom has no class at all, I can't believe he has said I have to work harder! Also it's about the team at utd. soooooo, at everton it was about you and you admit to being lazy!
Oh and by the way Rom, you are welcome for giving you a platform that few are lucky enough to experience.

Arsenal fan in peace just wanted to know are you happy with Rooney coming back and if your happy with the giroud rumours I will be sorry to see him go as I think he's a very good player, hope you get in the top 4 above Liverpool or is it there year this time around 😂😂😂.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

09 Jul 2017 20:34:34
I would be Quite happy to finish 17th this year so long as liverpool finished below us.

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Jul 2017 20:34:53
Personally, I did not want Rooney back BUT the guys in the club know better than me. Giroud would be a good addition imo. big strong old fashioned number 9 holds the ball up well and knows where the net is. Good luck next season. always had a soft spot since the invincibles.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 20:45:35
I for one am happy Rooney is back home jelfy. OK he's not the player he was but imo he's a 100pc upgrade on the likes of Kone, Niasse and Mcgeady. Giroud i would love to see in an Everton line up i would take him all day long. What suprised me is how he wasn't a regular for Arsenal last season but still managed 16 goals.

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Jul 2017 21:09:10
I'd take Giroud all day long. May be slow paced but certainly knows how to position himself for goals and good at headers and holding up play. As for Rooney, well it was bound to happen wasn't it.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 22:02:56
I feel that's the best way to view all our signings, are they an upgrade? Moving us in the right direction? I think the answer is a resounding yes to all those.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 18:58:10
The silence is deafening.

The lack of noise coming out of Goodison with each signing speaks volumes on how far we have come. It is no surprise we now sound like the club of old who when we signed a player you didn't know about it until they walked out on to the pitch in their first game it seemed like!

No need for us to bring out current players or have the manager leave sound bites with the press about the player we are after. Unlike Chelsea and United we have an air of confidence, maybe even an arrogance about our dealings again. I used to be terrified if we were mentioned with a player because you knew some other team would pop up out of nowhere and snap him up.

I'm thinking back 16 months ago. The nightmare unfolding in front of us. The hatred and spite from blues was as bad as I have ever seen or heard. Even in the Johnson era it was not to this level. Roll on those 16 months and now I haven't seen such optimism even in the 80's.

All this was never about winning trophies for us fans it was about being relevant again. It was about us having hope and to dream once more.

We're still miles behind the others in many aspects but instead of us trying to catch them by walking on crutches down that road we've now got a Bugatti and a Lewis Hamilton behind the wheel driving us!

I can't wait for the season to start!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

09 Jul 2017 19:17:10
Maybe Grey. Giroud will not leave London and Swansea are nothing but consistent on Sigurdsson not leaving and he, admirable in this day and age, does appear to value loyalty.

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Jul 2017 19:33:58
Swansea will sell at the right price and Sigurdsson will be pushing for a move the right way rather than through the press. All clubs say players are 'not for sale'. It wasn't too long ago we said the same thing about Rom.

One thing none of us have really mentioned is that Rooney is not currently in the England set up. It's a World Cup season. It will be his last chance to play in a World Cup. The only thing about his career that can ever be brought in to question is his failure to deliver in international tournaments. I have a feeling looking at how lean he looks and how much pressure there will be on him that we might see something next season that nobody is really expecting. I can see him playing off a big front man a really filling his boots. I can dream anyway.

Has anyone confirmed what Rooney's shirt number will be? I suppose its more than likely he'll be given Rom's #10 when he formally leaves, but say if Barry were to move on, would fans prefer he has #18 again? Really doesn't matter what number he gets, Just a bit of fun debate, given all the romanticism about his return.

I eas gutted when Rooney left us but i am prepared to drop the hate and concentrate in loving the club and embracing this new chapter. I believe the club wants to attract the worlds biggest names so we need to raise our profile and love him or hate us he will do that.
If he gives us all he has left in him for these 2 years rhen.

If the transfer window buying was to stop now, I'd be more than happy.

It isn't going to, so hopefully I'll be delirious.

In previous windows for too long now, as fans, we have dreamed and been expectant but all too often left feeling disappointed and unfulfilled.

This is not now the case. All parts of the club, coaching, management and players as well as very supportive owners, all seem to be pulling in the same direction.

No longer are we left hanging, or joining the race for certain players who have already been grabbed by other clubs.

Now we move and sign players that are wanted, and whom I presume are, excited about joining a club who are moving, at pace, in the right direction up the league.

Further signings will follow, players no longer wanted will move on, the young players will be brought in at the right time and develop with the help of the seasoned pros we are signing.

Other so called "top clubs" are aware that we are now joining the fray and will become a force to be reckoned with.

Transfer windows are no longer something to dread, especially as we get to deadline day and wonder if our over inflated price pursuit of a second rate French midfielder from a Championship side will get over the line.

The sleeping giant awakes and I can't wait.

eds, just want to put a mention on amongst all the transfer activity, for bill kenwright and farhad moshiri, they are doing a fantastic job, bill took a lot of stick over the years me for one wernt part of that, really deserves credit, farhad is delivering like he said, really proud of how there taking us forward the hole club from top to bottom is fantastic.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Good for you.}

Maze . I think that if . and it's a big if. Lukaku can as he says give more than it seems he was prepared to give during his time at Everton. then you can expect a fantastic goal scorer. but not a team player mate. his comments are both hugely disrespectful to Everton and his profession. he is going to miss the blue revolution that's coming believe me. the only other thing I would want from our owners now that WE own the Liver building is for the Liver Bird to be painted BLUE. with all these liners coming up the Mersey the first question why is the bird BLUE. ha ha because it's ours. well in Moshiri lad.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

09 Jul 2017 12:11:50
Has lukaku got any class I will miss his goals like the rest of Everton fans but how can he say man utd fans are the best how many fans would cheer a man who has come out for the last 2 years saying he would leave I really hope this man fails at man utd and think it would be really funny if we finish 4th and utd finished 5th this season.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

09 Jul 2017 13:38:58
He's playing "the game" do not get upset about it. move on. Wayne will kiss the badge in the next month or so. and some new guys will show "love" for the club. until they don't anymore. Fickle ain't they? ;) if they weren't, they'd have a really hard time.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 14:17:00
I think we have a true clubman in Coleman and he deserves the captaincy. Yes Rooney's captained United for many years but can we really just give him the captaincy over players that have been here for years? I don't think so.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 15:28:56
It is more about who is a good leader and Rooney has shown at Man u that he is. Coleman is a good shout but not for the start of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 11:46:32
Don't write Rooney off yet, his legs are not the ones of 5 years ago granted but class is permanent, he has wanted this move for couple of years now and big Duncan's testimonial was a way of seeing how it would feel with fans, he's joining his first love again and his t-shirt once a blue always a blue was honest, but knew he had to leave the club to achieve what he did, now what better way to end your career by helping his club back to the top, can't wait to hear ROONEY ROONEY ROONEY AND THEN CRACK A 30yarder past Utd in front of a packed Goodson or old trafford.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

09 Jul 2017 13:11:52
I watched a clip of Rooneys top 10 goals and 6 of these were from the last 3 years and all screamers from outside the area, something we have not had in our squad for some time.

I would like to think that this coming season, Goodison will be anything other than silent!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 11:07:49
Contrast classy Keane so grateful to Burnley in his statement. Lukaku immediately talks of united as having best fans in the world. shows a lack of dignity and gratitude for the platform everton gave him.
Sadly the "all about me" attitude prevailed though his stay with us. we got his goals but never his heart, which at least the returning Wayne has still for
Goodison. hope Rooney does really well second time round, even if he hasn't got the legs he once had. interesting to see how rom does! Mourhino is fickle and any drop in goal output could see the relationship strain again.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

09 Jul 2017 13:07:28
What do you mean by lukaku and Mourinhos relationship strained again?

It was absolutely nothing to do with Mourinho why Lukaku left Chelsea if that's what your referring too.

As for him being disrespectful he hasn't officially signed for MU yet so he still may thank you for your support.

Supporters/ fans today are so sensitive.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 11:07:12
Lukaku. Class right to thee end. What did he have to say about our fans and club and the support he's had from everyone? Nothing.

Bye bye Rom.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

09 Jul 2017 10:33:48
Well about time we are back to where we were when I was a kid. Everton making all the news when we go into the market . about time too. Lukaku. you know what . how long before he or his man it's agent start looking for another club. like everybody else I thank him for what he did but he could have done so much more I think his latest statement shows to some extent how lazy he can be . bags of cement can sleep safe in Manchester.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

09 Jul 2017 10:51:56
Steve as United fan that is my worry mate. His agent will have him and Pogba at a new club before they are 27 years old.

I was also disappointed to hear Chelsea would match the bid but not the agent fees which makes a mockery of United for me mate. Having said that I believe Lukaku will score goals if Jose plays the right way. Let's see what happens I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He was never going to move to Chelsea. Lots of attempts were made by a couple of guys who no him well to persuade those unhappy with him and the manager - but it really wasn't going to happen.}

09 Jul 2017 10:57:32
Ed why were they unhappy with him out of interest?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant but it was the reason he was sold.}

09 Jul 2017 11:11:27
I see it as a bit of a risk for Lukaku, knowing that Mourhino benched him before plus the added risk of the Mourhino 3 season curse maybe Chelsea would have been a better option if they were even an option. That said I wish him all the best aside from some of the things he said he has certainly helped us to get where we are.

Hi ed002 what do you think of the Rooney signing and what will he bring to Everton on the field and off it. The whole country seem to be spilt saying crap on the pitch but will get Everton more publicity off it thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Personally I think it a mistake and a costly mistake. Everton need to be looking to the next Wayne Rooney and not the one discared by Manchester United. Perhaps this has been done to keep the fans happy? Certainly off field he could shake a few hands - as long as he keeps the talking to a minimum. I am not so sure that he would bring widespread publicity for the club - go buy a Chinese international if you want to do that.}

09 Jul 2017 10:34:08
I hope you're wrong Ed!

If it's been done to keeps fans happy, it's a bit of a risk as it seems the fans are split on having him back. I also doubt that he's been signed to raise the profile of the club, he's hardly club ambassador material!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 10:34:43
Dunno ed. He will probably play cup games amd may even chip in with 10 goals. As long as he doesn't expect to play every game and sulks, it could be ok.
I think I just hope it works out but I completely understand the trepidation of fans. Could be a complete disaster but as you always say, ed, we should not worry about the cost because it's not coming out of our pockets but Mr moshiri's.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 10:46:19
I'm with you on that ED. The other signings we've made are the ones I'm excited about and with talk of Sig coming this week we should have a damn good team next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think it will be good side John - not so sure I would go way overboard and say "damn" good though. "Half decent" perhaps, or perhaps a team that "vibrates like a fish in the waters of the Manneken Pis".}

09 Jul 2017 10:53:47
He may not be the player he was but he will sweat blood for your team lads. I reckon between him and Giroud if you sign Roms goals won't be missed much.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 10:55:25
I agree with ed but I am sno expert and Koeman and Walsh haven't done much wrong as of yet so I have no reason to doubt them. And I agree we should be looking at the Next Rooney/ lukaku maybe dembele.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 11:04:21
Ed, I am think your spot on. but definite split between fans. I'd say half the lads I go game with are for and the half (including me) are against. but, I'm happy with what club have done with other transfers so this is one that the likes of me will just have to accept. he may surprise us neigh sayers.

Seems such a long time til the window closes and we've already done wonderful business. Still going to be very interesting how many more players leave and come in. Could do with a squad update from sid.

Jut wonder if we going to have the most boring transfer deadline day ever. At least we won't have a repeat of arteta to arsenal at 11.59.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Jul 2017 09:49:30
G'day lads and ed025. Just swinging past to give you boys a massive thumbs up regarding your summer recruiting thus far.

With Lukaku always going to leave there was always going to be money in the bank but fair play to the hierarchy for getting some good players in and not waiting for the sale before purchasing new blood.

A few questions is where do you guys think this leaves Barkley? Do you guys expect him to stay or be sold?

I guess it has been well documented that the club is chasing Giroud and Sigi but with the coffers refilled after the huge Lukaku deal (and possibly large Barkley transfer) do you guys think Everton will head back into the market for others?

All best. I'd rather Merseyside was blue than red that's for sure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I expect RB to leave still - but the asking price will determine if that happens or not.}

". I am willing to work hard, harder than I did before. " Quote from Rom as a man u player. when will these lads learn to keep quiet. Wish him well, the club got good compensation for him, but the lad should not open his mouth imo. just puts his foot in it every time.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - his latest one is "united have the best supporters in the world" jcl, which for me is a bit disrespectful to say the least, move on rom and good luck..but keep your bleedin mouth shut mate..

09 Jul 2017 09:32:19
I picked up the I gave Jose my word and I have been mentally preparing to play for Utd now I might be reading too much into but I'm guessing Utd was the Team he admitted to agreeing terms with while on Int duty surely if we didn't give him permission to talk to any clubs he has been tapped up that along with his boyfriend pogba drooling over Instagram about Lukaku then we have to report them over the way they went about signing Rom up and I will also not wish him well this guy has done nothing but disrespect our club I hope he fails big time.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jul 2017 09:33:20
I have to say each and every time he tweets or opens his mouth it's a little bit more disrespect from him! There are better ways to exit a club, Lukaku showing no class

Guys I couldn't agree more. He grips my throat too. But I want him to disappear from my mind asap so that I can give my all to his replacements which look like Rooney and Sandro.

I therefore couldn't give a monkeys what he says about his new employers and their supporters, we know there are no better supporters than ours so he can jog on now.

Ed025 something is for sure about Wayne, he may not be what he used to be mate but he swears blood for the jersey and the fans will never have a go at him over his work rate. Best of luck to him.

Between him and Giroud if you sign him you will replace Lukaku goals easy.

{Ed025's Note - i would love to think so maze, i know wayne will give his all and you never know he may find a new lease of life with us and spur us on to greater things, its obvious koeman wants him so i will bow to his superior knowledge mate..

I like Giroud and for me he would be an excellent addition and will certainly get goals, as an alternative if he chooses against the bright lights of Merseyside, how about Benteke? The fella has a half decent scoring record in the Prem, and is a handful for defenders, not my first choice mind, but surely could be considered an option.

{Ed025's Note - not for me gray, one lazy man and some moaned about roms work rate but benteke is in a different league mate..

Giroud is looking a bit unlikely isn't it?

Who else could we go for, apart from Dembele?

Mario Mandzukic? Ideal koeman type player. If we could have anyone, I mean.

Hi all Blues. just would like to commend the Club on another brilliant day of business on Saturday. We got the fee we wanted from United for Lukaku and what a shrewd move getting Wayne Rooney "back home" on a Free and a wage reduction. I cannot wish Lukaku well because of the way he has arrogantly conducted himself and the way he has totally dis-respected Everton since last season. regardless of his ambitions. But like many Evertonians I was very annoyed when Rooney left our Club 13 years ago. after "kissing the badge". He left as a boy and he now returns as a very successful man, still with plenty to offer! I for one am prepared to forgive as I firmly believe Rooney will want to fulfil more ambitions with Everton before he finishes and he will be great for the youngsters and in the dressing room. Not many players see a pass better than Rooney and his distribution across the pitch can prove invaluable. Over the years Everton have bought playerswho have been touted as "finished". "past their sell-by date" such as. Kanchelskis, David Ginola, Mark Hughes and Paul Gasgoigne. I think Wayne Rooney will flourish in a new lease of life back at Goodison and if he runs out onto the hallowed turf once again against Stoke. I believe most Evertonians will forget the past and welcome "our Prodigal Blue Son" home again. More signings to come I believe, so can't wait for the new season COYB.

Agreed GV. Players who are in their later years have been proven to be a very valuable asset to a team. It's all about the right blend of youth and experience. Looks like we are close to getting that.

I know this is unlikely, but gylfi, giroud and VVD would make us real contenders. can something like those 3 really come off? I'll be greedy and ask for Brahimi as the cherry on the icing on the cake. Can't wait to see this all unfold, COYB.
