Come on lads. 4 defeats all season is a great record to have. And three of them have been from teams up at the top. We've taken some scalps ourselves with wins over United and Chelsea. We can't compete with the teams around us for money but I think we can on the pitch. I could be wrong but didn't Spurs spend over £100m on players this season? Granted, most of it was from the sale of Bale but even still. We'd have an amazing team if we had spent that kind of money. United have spent more than us this year and have the likes of Van the man, Rooney, Mata and The Wig and are still below us. This is Martinez's first season, the lad is on fire! Look down the M62 at Moyes' first season. Shocking! And he's spent big! £64m on my counting! All we've spent is £13m on McCarthy, McGeedy fee and loans. There is still 39 Points to play for. Let's get behind the lads and bring home the bacon! Everton Aren't We! IMWT! COYB!

And 6m on Kone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Al

We're allowed to be down today as we lost but its been a great season.
Its a slow transition but we just need to keep plugging away.
Its progress.
Heres how much teams around us spent from 2003-2013

2. Man City 572
3. Liverpool 414
4. Man United 352
5. Tottenham 350
6. Arsenal 214
7. Aston Villa 201
8. Sunderland 187
9. Newcastle 174
10. Everton 129
11. West Ham 123
12. Wigan 110
13. Fulham 107
14. Portsmouth 100
15. Birmingham 92
16. Blackburn 87
17. Stoke 84
18. Bolton 76
19. Middsbrough' 71
20. West Brom 64

and we'll give anyone a game.
Now let fight for those 39 points Al mentioned

COYB

Agree0 Disagree0

Al and Chelts. Two very good posts. Keep the faith. Plenty to play for

COYB

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play BlueClarky. I forgot about Kone. But even still, these figures speak for themselves. £129m is amazing over a 10 year period. That's £12.9m a year and we are genuine CL contenders. Spending that kind of money, you would expect us to be around 10-15 in the league, but no. Always up there challenging for Europe. I for one am very proud to be a Blue and always will be. We don't have the biggest wallet but we can't half pack a punch!

Come On. Jolly up will ya? Did you think we were going win the league this season, the way some are jumping off the Proverbial bridge?!
Let me lend a hand of thought.
Yes, a defeat, shameful refereeing (Ed, can this ref be banned for life from the EPL?) but the players will know that the result should have been secured before then. The lads played some terrific football today. RM is quite correct to point out saying playing like that will provide more wins than losses. Lead players are just coming back from long term injuy. So 13 games to go. other teams will trip up too when least expected. the target must be in RM's mind for the points total to be in the high 60's and low 70's. that's a great seasons result and better than in any of the 10 years before.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Finally a bit of sense. Couldn't agree more my friend.

dissapointed with todays result.plenty of possesion as normal with no end product.can't understand why traore was not used as sub instead of mcgeady, after all he must be fit if he was on the bench
and why can we not do better at corners?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Feb 2014 18:20:43
Just when I thought nothing could cheer me up I turn ssn back on and see gollums mush as he trudges off to another awful result. there is a god after all.

Thought we played some really good stuff there, however we had no cutting edge up front. Miralas needs to become more of a team player IMO as there were a couple of occasions where he could have played someone in but went for the spectacular.

Yet again we have a situation where a team has 1 shot on target against us and scores. We need to tighten up defensively and today I felt Tim could've done better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i thought the defence was fine P, one lapse in concentration..

It only takes 1 lapse though. 1 lapse against Villa, and 4 in the derby!

Agree0 Disagree0

Distin, Jagielka & Coleman all switched off for Spurs goal. Distin & Jagielka weren't even looking at the ball when Walker played it. Schoolboy errors from 2 very experienced defenders, there's no excuse for that. They cost us a point yesterday.

Agree0 Disagree0

You just can't blame the defence for the goal someone should of stood infront of the ball to stop the quick freekick

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you..

09 Feb 2014 18:06:45
We can consider ourselves more than a little unlucky to lose today. The match was decided by two very poor referee decisions, the first was the Spurs dubious free kick was taken 10 yards away from where the 'foul' took place and although criticism could be levied at Jags and Distin switching off, by turning away from the ball, they obviously expected the ball to be returned to the correct place before the free kick could be taken.
Funnily enough, Clattenburg prevented us taking a quick free kick, taken from the right spot, by insisting on booking the octopus, Dembele.
Clattenburg also from 10 yards away failed to award a nailed on penalty on Seamus.
Maybe our luck will change with regard to questionable refereeing decisions in the remaining matches.
I also thought Traore would have offered us more options than McGeady in the last 15 minutes, allowing Mirallas, Delboy, Coleman and Baines a target.
All in all disappointed but not despondent because we are a far better team than Spurs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't see how anyone can say it was a nailed on penalty. If that was given against us people would be spitting blood. Personally, I thought Seamus played for it and the ref got it spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Feb 2014 17:03:50
This is were we start to fall away from the pack because we don't have enough strength in depth.
I can't reiterate enough that that being we need investment to move forward

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - keep your head up shakey, we are not finished yet mate..

Do not agree Spurs have spent £100 million and we by far the better team, apart from a couple of dodgy decisions by Clattenburg we would have won that match, c'mon you Blues, GuernseyBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

Guernsey blue that's the point we was the better team an we never finished them off because there was no end product spurs were rubbish and still won forget the 100 million forget the bad ref we lost an they got the 3 points we can play amazing all season but if we don't finish them off we don't get the points I still have faith for Europe but cl is gone for sure if we make investment an we play crap but still finish teams off imagine what we can achieve

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit hard to forget a 100mil mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, this is where we fall away because we haven't got the millions required to get decisions from a bent referee.

Red fan in peace. Thought you guys played well today just no cutting edge reminds me of liverpools games last season like someone said. But Tottenham do not deserve to be where they are! A clear penalty at the end is the ref blind? and they are just a dull team. I was hoping for a draw but hope you guys come 5th infront of spuds and mancs. Officials have been appalling this season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

. gee thanks. Glad someone agrees wiv me!

Thought naismith worked hard today he would be a good playin up wid lukaku finds space very easy an intelligent player needs a run of games

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Feb 2014 15:49:16
Gutted after that. We outplayed them for most of the game. I thought Osman was fouled when they won the ball only forcing Barry to then give a away a free kick within half a second. Then Distin switched off and the ball was in the back of the net. Ok we didn't trouble their keeper much. but it was more than they troubled ours. All the substitutions made us lose our shape. I have to say McGeady looks poor to me in every game. Yes he can ghost past a player, but more often than not it is in the middle of the pitch, or he does it in advanced positions, then gives the ball away or puts in a poor cross. Barkley needs resting until his foot is fully recovered. He needs to come back when we are winning games for his confidence. Deulofeu gives the ball away too many times as well. Feeling down now lads. I thought we were going to win that one after the first half showing.
Degsypulford

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - mcgeady looks poor to me as well degsy, i dont really know what he offers us..

How can you possible judge McGeady? He has played two full games and been good in both. This was a brief cameo when the entire team had fallen apart. What he offers is pace and skill. If we actually had someone giving him an option after he'd beat him man, we'd all be singing his praise.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its all about opinions AB, i just dont know what he brings to the table that we dont already have mate, but how i would love to be proved wrong..

I just think that McGeady does not create much. Or at least so far has not. I will give him time, but right now I would say we have better players than him. Pienaar, Osman, Barkley, Mirallas, Naismith and Del Boy can all play different roles and I would pick all of them ahead of McGeady from what I have seen.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Feb 2014 20:50:26
to be fair to aiden, he wants to take people on, its just our style is making him go inwards and pass it or cross with his weaker foot, hopefully he will have one match when he completely demolishes a full back, hopefully against evra when they come here, I will give him time, I don't rate him, he clearly has the tools to do well, he just needs that bit of swagger and confidence so he can express himself on the pitch, hopefully he can do it, he's barely played for us, same with kone and alcaraz, they need time to bed in and gain confidence from playing matches, I think he's a better option than pienaar, all in all, least we can do is give him time

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Degsy on this one. McGeady is not half the player Pienaar is and does not have the same understanding down the left with Leighton Baines. As Degsy said, the substitutions had a negative effect on the team performance and was not the Plan B we were expecting.

Agree0 Disagree0

Judging McGeady after 3 games? Are we serious? And after months of no football? What does he bring? Well give him 4 great chances in the opening 7 mins like Osman had and I bet we would find out

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Feb 2014 15:46:22
another note, their free kick which led to the goal, dembele is over 6 foot, he went down crying like he was shot, not getting into the officials but clattenburg, god I hate him

Mike-Ox Long

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed Mike. Added to which, I thought Osman was fouled immediately before we gave away the free kick. He waved that one on then gave such a soft one to dembele.

Season over!! What a load of crap!! Martinez to blame again for me & he's really starting to be found out now as a manager in the last few games. Q: why play Naismith on the wing when he should be up front which is his natural position & he was our only option up front! Q: why bring on 2 wingers (mcgeady & delefeo) when we still don't have outlet up front to aim for & when we had 1 in traore on the bench - this was the craziest decision decision of the match for me especially as it was quite apparent that once again we offered no cutting edge up front & didn't take any of our chances again in that 1st half. My wife's a Liverpool supporter & she says that Liverpool had quite a few games like this last season where they would dominate possession, not create very much or take their chances & the opposition would go up the other end of the field & score the winner against the run of play - the lesson they had to learn was that all this possession style of football is load of crap unless you create & put your chances away consistently!!
We need to re-group after this, but I feel we might be on the slide.& Martinez needs to start making better decisions as a manager for me or else this season will be seen as no improvement on the last & possibly even worse if the mancs get going.
Finally, I noticed Barkley was limping badly at the end of the game today, hope it's not as bad as it looked, will be a big loss for us if he is out for another amount of time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - bit harsh on bobby that zacki, lack of quality in the final third, and yes, i thought traore should have come on, but for all that we are playing good football, and i believe are a better side than last year..

We have to give him a chance to get his style of football right yes there r things that need to be fixed but bearing in mind I thought we would struggle in his first season it has gone well we'll be far better next season and yes rodgers took a couple of seasons to get to were lfc r now there still a few twists to come yet it could all change again on tues and weds

Agree0 Disagree0

Played well got caught by a sucker goal. Barry should have kicked it away not teed it up for them to take quick. Martinez doing nothing wrong, had Kev laid the ball off to Naisy 1st half then we would have gone on to win. Stop bloody moaning.

Agree0 Disagree0

. I think my points are quite valid ed. yes we are playing a much better style of football thus season, but Bobby's decisions of late have late have cost us dearly. he set us up completely wrong in the derby playing too high a defensive line & bringing too many unfit players back too soon & I'm sticking to my points bout today's match! :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your entitled to your opinion zacki mate..

Saw the first two words of his post and stopped reading.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Feb 2014 15:41:41
Not great.

1. When did we turn into Arsenal? We always wanted to walk it into the the net. I love Bobby's passing game but its completely pointless if we don't shoot. We over elaborated so many times that if I wasn't bald I would have torn my hair out.
2. Why don't we Practice corners. Every time we got one I knew we wouldn't score. The opposition look comfortable too
3. If Traore isn't fit why was he on the bench? If he was fit why didn't he get any game time. I thought Naismith had a good game, ran his heart out and laid off some good balls, but we were crying out for a striker!

I watched the game and I've seen the stats but even though Spurs were shoddy too I don't think we can complain about leaving with nothing. We just weren't good enough today. There's a good chance we'll finish 7th looking at our remaining fixtures so I hope the cups run nicely as I'd like a euro jaunt next year

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - we try to walk it in pod, because of our lack of a potent striker, and the lack of someone to produce that killer pass mate..

But if we haven't got a striker then we need to shoot from distance. You need a striker for tap ins.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. We sometimes seem to take 20 passes to do what a good side can do with 1, annd FFS shoot!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Feb 2014 15:37:02
Clattenburg at it again should never be allowed to referee another everton game ever he's a disgrace clearcut penalty he's lookin straight at it . This lack of a proper striker has cost us again today not good enough we should have bought begged borrowed or stole 1 in the transfer window.

feel sick, one chance, god its so infuriating! as usual spurs fans quiet all game until they score, typical, traore should of been given 15 minutes or just something! annoying the way we don't take our chances and our opponents take their only one, fourth spot was gone after the derby and was even further gone after they demolished arsenal, now its completely out of site, it really does make me angry, this is the everton way, united will beat fulham and all hope is lost again! tbh I think at a push we can hope for sixth, bitterly disappointed and downright p*ssed off after that, for once why can't things just go our way?

Mike-Ox Long

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I must have been at a different game?

Agree0 Disagree0

Be fair to Mike, Twoold. Mike has only said he is annoyed we did not take our chances. And that they took their only one. He never said we were crap or anything. He finishes by saying our luck is out. I would agree with all he says. Me and Mike have our run ins, but on this one, I understand exactly how he feels.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont kno why poeple are saying distin switched off for their goal both coleman and jags were closer

Agree0 Disagree0

Mikedeblue. people are saying Distin switched off because he did and it was him that played Adebayor on side. Jags and Coleman had held a line and Distin took a step back allowing Adebayor to get in behind Jags and Coleman. He just stepped ahead of them and Distin played him onside even though Distin was on the other side of the pitch.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - for me degs it was our midfield who switched off, one of them should have stood on the ball, and not let him take the free kick..

You are absolutely correct Ed25, but it was a matter of them all switching off. I blamed Distin for keeping him onside, but yes the forwards and midfield also need to do their job stopping quick ones being taken. I played in the high level of the Birkenhead Sunday League division 23 and learned that when I was 8 years old.

If you was at the fame i'm sure you agree with me. Osman offensively was shocking missplaced 9/10 passes BUT when we needed him 9/10 times he was the one who made the crucial tackle.

Naismith gunna get majority of tue blame for playing rubbish but most balls played to him where shocking so that can be to blame.

Now for the MAIN reason we didn't come away with a draw or a win was 1 man. And his equily rubbish officals. From the off every single 50/50 or challenge went spurs way it wasnt till the 38th min we actually got a foul. The linesmen where flagging every run was diabolical. But there main problem was clatenberg who I forgot did I mention joe rubbish he was!

Now, it was evident from today that we need to take our chances and take a shot for 70 mins we tried to pass the ball into the net there where 8-times where a shot would have gone in or cornwr if missed

Oh well coybs prey for a fulham win

really didn't deserve to lose that game, they only had 2 shots on target and I don't know why we didn't bring on traore, you could see near the end of the game there was no crosses into the box as there was nobody to aim for, anyway palace next is a must win coyb!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Feb 2014 15:32:25
Really disapointed. Considering they were the home team I thought we controlled the game. Their first shot on target gets them the winning goal that says a lot. In games like this that cutting edge makes the difference. Nothing to be ashamed of though lads for me we are the better team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - we played well sheeds, but as you say, no cutting edge..

I'd rather play badly and have that cutting edge. We keep saying the same thing but at the end of the day the record books will show goals and final results/standings. I think RM is doing a great job but he has no plan B. I have one - shoot!

Joke that we needed a striker on the pitch, an when was the last time Ross had a gud game the lad is gunna b class but he needs droppin for a few games I think he gives the ball away far to much, cnt wait for next game when we have a fit out and out striker on the pitch, not a happy blue today me!!

09 Feb 2014 14:23:37
Why oh why do we persist in these outswinging corners. Half the time they are headed clear and the other half of the time we get under them, so they are headed upwards and out. If Baines took the ones on the right and Mirallas the ones on the left, we could drive them in with pace and have something to run on to. The ones we take end up as airy fairy floaters that defenders can run at and clear. I know this from Sunday League football.so surely the coaching staff do? We look like we could take 100 corners and never score. Can anyone remember the last time we scored from a direct header to a corner?
Degsypulford

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - lukaku against the reds?..

Hey Ed 25. thanks for that. And how many games ago was that? And how many corners have we wasted since? Average 7 a game.probably over 100? Plus I don't quite remember the corner for his goal, but was it driven in or an outswinger?

Team I would play tomorrow

Howard

Coleman Jags Distin Baines

Barry McCarthy

McGeady Mirallas Pienaar

Naismith

Subs: Barkley, Deulofeu, Stones, Robles, Hibbo, Traore, Ossie

I think its touch and go between Ross and Aidy, Ross will only improve with more games and I think it is helpful in the long term to blood him. He does very occasionally ghost through a game, I think Aid is close to getting back some arrogant and offensive swagger.
