Just a big shout out to all the fans who were at the game today. Watched the game on TV and the support you gave the boys was amazing. Gutted about the result though. It's just so frustrating though at the moment in as much as we got a good squad, a very good manager, who has ver quickly became passionate about our amazing club and we are knocking on the door of the so called top four. But all we need is that little bit of investment in the squad to push us on and you just know that what forever reason just ain't happening or likely to anytime soon.

The problem for us Evertonians is that our expectations are high and rightly so.
This season Roberto has done remarkably well however we are clearly missing 3 or 4 top class players in our starting 11 and and also a further (dare I say it 10) strong squad players to bolster when injuries and bans kick in.

The reality is that this may well be a transition season for us but without Roberto being giving the financial clout we will struggle to break in to the top 4.

Dare I say this, but I think with the style Roberto wants to play I think we should go with one holding defensive midfielder and play 2 two more attacking minded midfieders with two wingers with pace.

We seem to want too much time on the ball including when we shoot. Ross Barkley is a talent who will be a great player once he picks his head up a bit more and learns to compose himself.
I think that next year will also be a building season where we have the odd purchase, loans but more importantly integration of our youngsters into the 1st team.
I want to see that hunger back as I think we have seemed to have lost as the season has worn on. We appear to lack a bit of belief at present.

Anyway the scoreline could have been different, but it wasn't today. It did perhaps flatter, but I'm gutted like everyone else.

Big test of Robertos management coming up until close of season now. Personally unless it is top four I wouldn't want us in Europa league not with the lack of quality squad depth. We need more pace as this would suit our style.

Anyway good night fellow blues. Until the next game!

We need new players, no doubt about that but RM needs to realise he's not Wigans manager anymore and stop bringing dross into our club.Kone, McGeady, Robles, Alcaraz and even Traore are just not good enough for this club.

Hi paul, let's see, kone, barely played and only cost us 1 victor anichebe, bargain, joel meh, mcgeady, i'm not a fan but has started about 2 games, both which he did well in, give him next season, traore has played one game, alcaraz is a good player, has been injured and when he has played and been fit he has been excellent, splash some cold water on your face and wake up

Agree0 Disagree0

Why say splash your face they are all average players, even worse when there injured

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan just because they have only played one game is irrelevant.I've seen them all play numerous games for other clubs and yes they are all crap.Go and splash yer face yerself.

i watched alcaraz at wigan and in the world cup, very good player, if they are all crap then why did martinez bring them in? ALL OF THEM,

1-0 down and Robles is having a mare. Why is he trying to punch everything instead of catching the ball? His distribution when kicking the ball also looks iffy. More to the point why isn't Howard playing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Joel Robles didn't looked totally comfortable and Howard may have inspired more confidence in the rest of the team. However, any backup keeper does need some first-team match time so that it won't be completely unknown territory if he has to come in when the first choice is out injured or suspended or whatever. The cup games give that opportunity. Today, although Joel Robles punched and flapped at too many balls, we didn't lose because of any mistakes by him.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2014 20:59:13
Gabriel, it doesn't matter imo mate, these mistakes will be costly one day, hope the odd links to forster are true, this lad cannot be our long term solution

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, Swan, that Joel Robles doesn't look like our long term solution. I was just giving my thoughts about why RM played him in the cup matches. We have several young keepers at the club and I hope that at least one can develop into a reliable keeper, but they're clearly not ready yet. Tim Howard has been good, but we need to find his successor asap - Forster looks good, but might be pricey. Oh for a Nigel Martyn or a Neville Southall :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I hear what you say Gabriel about the need for Robles to gain experience, hence the reason to play him in the early rounds. Stevenage, QPR and to a certain extent Swansea because we were at home. But Arsenal away in a quarter final? Tim Howard should have played yesterday. It would have given the back four continuity and consistency. Howard would have encouraged young John Stones, but instead Robles looked out of his depth. Why he chose to punch everything rather than catch the ball was embarrassing. And that flap where he punched against his own bar was cringeworthy.
I'm sorry but he is not good enough even as a reserve. There must be better. If not we go out and replace next summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 13:37:37
I think it would make sense for us to get an experienced keeper, same age as howard, and have to 2 of them fight for he number 1 spot for a season or 2 and in that time send joel out on loan to iron out his mistakes, if he improves, bring him into the side, if not then we will look elsewhere

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2014 18:58:55
I know we don't have the budget but we need to start looking for players who can close control the ball, and be a bit physical as well

Some of our guys don't seem to be on the same level as some of those arsenal boys who rarely give the ball away, close control it, pass and move, and above all are NOT greedy around the box - selfless play wins games - we have got a few selfish grabbers up front who always think of themselves first - I.e. lukaku mirrallas and Gerry
We're missing out on goals whilst these guys grab

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Those kind of players cost big money why do you think there at Arsenal? And as you just pointed out we don't have that kind of budget so how are we suppose to get those type of players.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we can't afford the big transfer fees and big wages - and don't have Champions League football - to attract the top players, then we surely must do everything possible to retain our better players. Bottom line, however, is that players want to win trophies, play in European competitions, and maximise their earnings. With our stadium and commercial income we just can't compete financially with the mega-bucks clubs. I don't have a solution - just eternal optimism that Everton can give it their best shot.

Lost today because of mistakes by Martinez, Robles in goal, all the players were shouting at him and so they were nervous at the back. McCarthy, Pienaar, Mirallas had shockers. Again story of the season not scoring when in good positions, Barkley miss would have been 2-1 to us and the game would or could have been better. Subs were a bit odd, and am I alone in wondering about Gerry. I just don't see any more in him than someone who can do a trick or two every now and then. Yes he's young but playing in the Prem?! nah I don't think so. don't see much point in keeping him another season to be a bit part player, would rather us bring in someone a bit more established, we wanna go for trophies and higher positions, not be a learning curve for other teams players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Mar 2014 18:28:27
Kennedy, as someone rightly pointed out, needs to be given a go, as does anyone over 17, could save us a lot of money

Agree0 Disagree0

We lost today because Arsenal have better players nothing to do with martinez. And if you think if you think that we should be beating Arsenal then you must be deluded.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2014 20:57:32
Damn, degsy you forgot to turn your record off reepeat

Agree0 Disagree0

Mike S, what sort of comment is that. Your calling me deluded, so your telling me then the Manager and players went into the game expecting to lose?! You need to change your team mate, not doubt you thought I and the team were deluded for thinking we could win at Utd too ehhh?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan I he struggled to adapt to leauge 1 physicality and he is not ready for the prem

Agree0 Disagree0

My point is HB we have no right to go to places as such as Arsenal and even Old Trafford expecting to win. The problem is on here to many people think we're a bigger club than we actually are, we have not won anything for nearly 20 years yet people expect us to be finishing top 4 and winning away to teams who are clearly better than us. Until something changes i.e huge investment we will always remain a medium size club at best who always falls short.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2014 18:06:35
Joel Robles made a couple of good saves, but he punches or flaps at too many balls in my opinion. Even his team mates were annoyed when he punched the ball rather than catch it - especially when he wasn't under too much pressure from opposing players. Can't blame him for the gaols conceded though.
I thought that Stones' relative inexperience at this level showed with his defensive positional play on some occasions, but he will mature into a top player.
I also think that Barkley is still struggling to recapture his early season form and could have done better with his shooting opportunities, but he too will mature into a top player.
We played reasonably well when in possession, but lacked a real cutting edge to our play and we were exposed defensively when we had to push forward.
What's important is for our squad to perform well from now on, get as many wins and points as possible, and finish as high up as possible. Then it's onto a fruitful summer transfer window and a stronger challenge on all fronts next season.
Once a blue, always a blue!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post Gabriel, I too agree our squad is far too thin and we would have never coped in Europe, just hope we can strengthen in the summer, some of our players are just not good enough, if we do finish in the top seven we really need investment, GuernseyBlue

I thought we played pretty well again today only for the scoreline to flatter Arsenal somewhat. I still say the two defensive midfield partnership of Barry and McCarthy means few goals or attempts. 3 in total again (attempts on target that is). The only way we will beat the top teams like this is by keeping a clean sheet and scoring our usual 1 goal a game. I see Manchester United have sneaked above us now. I will not dare mention he who must not be named for fear of even more abuse. But it looks like we are sliding down the table now. Season more or less over.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moyes took over the champions of England, the biggest club in the universe, spent £65 million on them and has managed to climb up to a lofty 6th position.

What a manager. Nailed on for manager of the year. I so wish we still had him. I loved all them trophies he won for us.

3 cheers for moysie. Hip hip hooray.

I can picture it, last game of the season, liverpool at anfield for fourth place, we start off brightly attack attack attack, at half time we have dominated, borind second half, 90 minute, suarez rolls the ball to sturridge who scores and does his stupid dance in front of the everton fans but its ruled offside, we then take the free kick long, there is chaos in the box, no one knows what is happening then liverpool clear to barkley on the volllleyyyyy, goaaaaalllllllll, ross kisses the badge in front of the liverpool fans, season ends and fourth is rapped up, gerrard retires after finally realising his legs have gone, suarez leaves, 2 weeks later, united in the fa cup final, after avoiding an early storm caused by tom cleverley everton then, wait wait!, let's take it back, after avoiding an early storm caused by wayne rooney, everton go on the counter, a ball is slipped in and mirallas is fouled, baines steps up and buries the penalty in the top corner, he then celebrates in front of gollum, 67th minute, mccarthy gets the ball 35 yards out, he nocks thr ball forward and releases a hammer of a shot into the top corner leaving de gea with no chance, he takes his shirt off and celebrates with the everton fans, 90th minute, barkley takes on 3 players and curles a beautiful shot past de gea from 25 yards out, he then slides on his knees and lifts up his shirt which says 'once a blue always a blue', captain jags goes to pick up the trophy, hehe you know what happens next don't ya!? The bloody alarm clock goes off and you wake up in your own little bed! Ye soft sod!

I may get a bit of stick for this, but Gaz Baz has not lit my confidence much as others would suggest this season. Yes he gets blocks in around the box and has filled a gap defensively for us this season while gibson has been out, but I don't think he's what most people are making out as a world beater. His pace is non existent as it was against germany back in 2010 world cup and he was subsequently dropped from the england set up. (incidently it was ozil who tore barry apart on that occasion too). His ball passing skills are good, but why on earth do we need two defensive midfielders (and before u comment I know we have used two full backs as almost wingers this season), but as a result the build up play is far too slow to an extend where baines has almost been ineffectual in open play assisting only once this season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Snap! I have been saying this all season and have had quite a bit of abuse for saying it. 2 defensive midfielders with no goals between them.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2014 17:16:28
Oooh bet you got a hard on reading that one degsy, like you promised, take your head out your a*se and wait until next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally disagree barry an mcarthy have been outstanding this year can't imagine what our season would be without them

Agree0 Disagree0

Just ironic to me that someone else is starting to say it. I can wait until next season and Lukaku goes. Then the real problem will be seen. If you think this gives me a hard on you don't know me. I am actually very worried and concerned about how things will pan out. Yes RM may find another center forward with 15 to 20 goals?. but they usually cost 25 million upwards. He may also find alternatives to Osman and Pienaar? Barry might sign for us? Distin may go on another season? Del boy and McGeady might actually beat a man and score a goal? (no I am only joking here). Kone might come back from his injury and score 20 goals for us? Yeah right! Whichever way you look at it, there are lots of changes needed and big money spending. But then again, I might have no idea about what I am talking about. let's see 10 games into next season like we agreed.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2014 20:39:47
shakey, they've been good in possesion in our own half, but as for going forward and commiting I'd like to see how many assists they have between them. If we played like barca and sprayed the ball from wing to wing (baines to coleman within 2/3 passes in the opponants half) then i'd appreciate the need for two defensive mids and the opposition defense would be split apart, but here at everton it takes 6/7 passes from baines to coleman within the final third of the pitch and its just too slow, hence us finding it difficult to play intricate passes through opposition defenses and the move commonly breaks down with barkley/ mirallas/osman/ pienaar over passing the final ball or shooting from 25 yards out with no joy.

Someone with no name, degsy, have you ever smoked from a bong? Its like the whole world is spinning around you, try it with a bottle of beer you may actually feel better about us, or in another way, do you know the definitioncon of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results each time, think about that one mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan, that was Einstein's theory of insanity.it is not proven nor law. If you even suggest I am insane, I will prove you wrong. I drive a 600 mile round trip to watch a set of gentlemen wearing royal blue kick a bag of wind towards three sticks arranged in an upside down U shape. I get very excited if they get the bag of wind into the U shape. There is also anothe 11 gentlemen trying to get the same bag of wind into another upside down U shape. Our 11 men are trying to stop the other 11 from putting the bag of wind into our U. Only one gentleman from each team is allowed to use their hands. This costs me well over 100 pounds to bring my wife, son and me up to watch this from Devon. It takes all day travelling unless I stay with family over-night. So don't call me insane until you know what you are really talking about. BTW, bongs went out with the stone age!

It was our day today and the result doesn't reflect the game fairly.
Many predicted your down turn with Moyes departure, that seems a long time ago now but just shows how far you have come in a short space of time under Martinez.

Good luck for the next few weeks and for the rest of the season after we have come to you for what was always going to be one of our toughest games in a very tough run, I just hope you don't get the revenge I fear you might over us.

08 Mar 2014 15:11:12
poor defensively today, when we get turned because our full backs are out of position, our wingers are not fast enough to cover overlapping runs from opposing full backs and the 2 defensive pairing of barry and mccarthy were not quick enough to provide cover to the centre backs, time and time again we were looking like getting caught by waves of arsenal attacks and we did nothing about it. switching lukaku out of the centre did not work as we posed very little threat going forwards as no one was in the box. Finally ozil had a field day against stones, who today looked completely out of his depth, not his fault as we had nobody else to play there, and barkley was ineffective we countlessly lost possesion due to silly passes and poor control. our season dwindling away to a fight for europe in the league. Not usually a doom merchant, but I can't understand why we did not change our shape after the lacklustre 1st half performance, I'm growing increasingly frustrated how we keep both mccarthy and barry behind the ball instead of one of them making a forward run to involve themselves in attack and provide covering runs for lukaku and barkley to feed off as our attacks literally break down when we reach 25 yards from goal and we attempt to walk the ball into the net!

I think the wheels are starting for fall of our season now even if we qualify for Europe I don't think were strong enough as a squad to cope with it we need serious investment much moor than the 30 million we apparently have I think we need moor along the lines of 50/60.
So come on bill find us a sugar daddy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A sugar daddy?
Like at Birmingham City - wait a minute, he's just got six years for money laundering.
Or like at Hull City - wait a minute, he wants to change their name or he'll walk away.
Or maybe like at Cardiff City - wait a minute, he changed the colour from blue to red.
Chelsea (with the advantage of being London-based, which does attract players), and ManCity (with the advantage of a ready-made new stadium), and ManUtd (with a pre-existing massive worldwide commercial operation) have had success funded by massive investment (be it sugar daddies or other financial sources), but there's no guarantee that we would be like them and there's a risk that we could end up like Brum, Hull, the Bluebirds - or Leeds or QPR who also couldn't buy long-term success.
I think the phrase to describe a potential sugar daddy for Everton is "double edged sword".

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2014 20:45:56
I don't think existing with the red side of merseyside being in the same city helps us to sell either. think of us both as cars, for arguements sake if u have enough money to buy a bentley (lfc), would you go and buy a mercedes (efc) and purchase new parts to get it to its best standard or would you just buy the bentley?

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point, huytonbluecraig, but ManUtd and ManCity - admittedly only recently and with massive financial resources - have both competed for the top honours. I guess that if we had spent the same amount as LFC on players then we could be competing. Hopefully, we'd have bought better players than some they've spent big on :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok let's just be happy with bill then a putting in five ten million a season in to players don't think so at least with money behind us we have a chance of progression from being 7/8th every year. I will put it in plain English

If we are to measure the progress since our last 6th round defeat in the same week last year, we wouldn't need a very big tape measure.
Sorry, honeymoon periods coming to end for me with RM.
Whose telling our defenders to zone mark all of a sudden, their forwards couldn't believe their luck.
Some will say we were unlucky due to the penalty gaff but guys let's be honest our first half defensive/midfield display was abysmal.
Started the season with optimism, totally back to square one for me after that.
One win v Manchester United away does little to instill me that the club has moved on much.

A moment of introspection here as I look down on the floor knowing the season is ending poorly. We didn't deserve to loose at TH or Chelsea but we did. Now the horrible score today will go on on record for ever and it tells a truth. Confidence has been stuffed out of the side as lack of numbers in the squad begin to tell. Sqaud rotation is too far too low and the investment shortfalls are beyond debate. Strength of mind and body appear sapped. RM is in recovery mode as he needs to summon up some cracking man managment skills to recover pre Christmas hope. no, expectation and finsh this seaon with some hope. In a few months some hard decisions need to be made and investments need to be energised. For the present, players heads need uplifting and RM needs to ingrain the confidence level. At half time today EFC were being labelled as 1 to 2 players short of being a CL team. Yes by Arsenal supporters. So what the hell went wrong? A needless penalty at a crucial point required EFC to stretch the game and without the pinnacle of quality to do this, then the result of inevitable. Loose 2-1 or 4-1 matters not. But in the loosing at 4-1 merely shows the gossimer thin quality we have. Arsenal subs were in the forfront of the 3rd and 4th goals. Who did we bring on?

Sorry folks, you can give me all the abuse you want after this comment, & yes I'm hurting like every other evertonian today, but until we get rid of bill & get some serious investment pumped into our club we will never win any silverware of sorts ever again. We need to get our heads out of cuckoo land & face facts, teams of the stature of everton should be winning things & not being continually anhialated in cup quarter finals year after year & losing badly to the red rubbishs game after game. for me, martinezs decision making needs to improve greatly.why the hell did he put Robles in goal ahead of Howard in such an important game?? The back 4 for me didn't look confident with that Spanish plonker in goal from moment one. & so I could go on. but I won't. other than to say to Bill, sell now, cut your losses & help everton fc move forwards & achieve something by getting some serious investment pumped into club. sorry, but players like mcgeady, pienaar, Oscan & an inconsistent mirallas will not help us achieve any of these objectives. :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan, you talk out of your backside lad. The team selection against LFC was the decisive factor in us losing so heavily, not that anyone 'bottled' it as you put it. Arsenal are a top team and the scoreline today was a bit unjust, we never deserved to lose that heavily. Joel isn't the best keeper, I'll give you that but could you really blame him for any of the goals? Any excuse to have a go at players you don't like (Osman on the pitch for few minutes yet you slate him like he gave away every goal) Your posts on here are seriously laughable. You don't like to have a debate about things you just rip in to people who don't agree with your view point, if you never posted as much as you do on here I'd accuse you of being a red or manc. There was no bottling it today, the best team won. Simple. Stop sounding bitter and get a grip lad

08 Mar 2014 20:00:15
I rip into people? Reading back at your posts all I can say is it may be the case of the pot calling the kettle black, we bottle it at anfield every year, at anfield I will agree, the team selection was bad, yet he picked some of the right players in mccarthy, barry, coleman and baines, were where they? Of course they were nowhere to be seen, for the last 19 years we have shown no spine in the big games, look at the games against chelsea in the final and liverpool in the semi, our players shat themselves, today it was not as bad or hurtful as they were, but let's look at this, we played an arsenal team in the league which had giroud, szszszszezny and the apparent world class wilshere and ramsey, we drew 1-1, we played a team with none of them and we got beat 4-1, had we played this team in the league we might of even won, had we played the team we played in the league in the fa cuo like today we would of lost 6 or 7 nil, it is an everton tradition that we don't do well in the big games, osman is just arrr, why dk people defend him and say he is a great servant yet want hibbert gone asap because he's crap, how two faced is that? Despite osman, being a kopite and hibbert, being a blue, osman wasnt at fault for all the goals, tbh, I couldn't care less if osman or barry made a mistake for any goal in any game, the mistake is made, I just don't get why osman gets special treatment while people are free to take a sh*t on hibbert and gibsons heads any time they feel like it, our players were not at their BEST today, which can be said for a lot of games this season, but when it comes to the big games, youd think just once we will get lucky and have a one off game were everyone is at their best but nope, same old same old, this seasons done, its just a case of getting the rest of these prem ganes out the way so we can forget about some of the things that have happened this season, next summer is key, martinez has to spend or we will not progres, regardless of the result today, we would of met city in the semi or the final itself and lost so its really saved us getting our hopes up, i'm no kopite mate, i'd rather suck out my eyes with a vaccum cleaner and replace them with hot toffeeapples, i'm also no manc, i'd rather drink bleach with a cilet bang chaser, i'm just a passionate, grumpy and very tired evertonian who would like to see our team show some ambition and try to win a cup game

Joel's not good enough at all, should never be played ahead of Howard, especially in the most important game of the season, bloody useless
